@NatureMC@bookwyrm@writers while I didn't dig deep, I'm not sure how bookwyrm would prevent fake review bombing... tho federated instances could block, but it's still lots of content moderation...
@pyperkub Of course but here real people and admins are working for that. I also think that with the size of the servers here, a bombing would be noticeable due to the size of the data. @bookwyrm@writers
'Folk Ku Issue 2' has just been published, with two of my ku. 😃 Thank you so much, Jodie Hawthorne @kingriverpress , for curating another beautiful magazine!
You can download the PDF of the magazine for free via this link:👇🏽
@writers I reckon it could be 3 or 4 weeks at most for her to realise, she might hide it for another couple of months... hasty wedding on the quiet another two weeks after that perhaps, if they slip the priest a bribe. So maybe the pregnancy is not quite halfway through by the time she's at the altar? And that's approaching mid to late December?
Hello fellow-writers, help wanted. Last week my partner lost a number of my tabs. They are irretrievable. One of them was of a website by women on ao growing vegs and, if I remember it well, pictures of pumpkins. They also asked for fiction submissions on nature, with possible bonus points for a vegan character. It's not hearthstories.
Can anybody help me, please? Thanks in advance!
@MarjoleinRotsteeg@writingcommunity@writers I can't help with the website but I will say that if you happen to browse using a google account, your entire history is saved in a really well-indexed list that lets you locate search and site history a lot more deeply than a history search provides
Feel like I haven’t written anything in ages. Need to correct this urgently. Anyone any tips for finding time? I’ve no shortage of ideas 😂 #WritersOfMastodon#writeas@writers
Opportunity knocks for haikuists with the IHS International Haiku Competition 2023. IHS stands for 'Irish Haiku Society'. Deadline: 30th November. More information:
This hilarious narrative about an Alaskan State Trooper who obviously had other aspirations reminded me that @writers in more straight-laced jobs often show signs of the inner writer pushing through. https://infosec.exchange/@nazgul/111093630816222212 What were/are your "tells" in professional and other settings that you're a creative writer? Or are you really good at hiding it, if you feel the need to do so? #WritingCommunity
@CatFoxBirdLady@writers That's the dream, never having to hide it! I never actively concealed anything, exactly, but I did have to present in a certain way and it never quite fit. No longer a problem in my freelance job, fortunately.
Poor people probably didn't get a lot of stories published. That's why they don't start: "I was sentenced to three months in the insane asylum for being poor." 🤔
Years ago, I’d bought a tall stack of used Martha Grimes Inspector Jury books and began reading through them. One day I thought, “Why do I feel so depressed?”
@drinkswriter@writingcommunity@writers Asking questions - and raising points - that you reveal in the book is the traditional way to approach newsletters pre-release, though normally there's a fair bit of time, and you can build anticipation. If the date is drawing nearer, then a more direct, blunt approach might be called for.
The best research is actually reading a lot of these types of newsletters in preparation for this, then finding your own take on common formats.
In day-to-day life, creative #writing is more of a hygiene requirement like showering or flossing for me. It's something I have to do to stay healthy and happy, and I arranged my life and made sacrifices to make time and space to write. Most days it's not fun in itself, though, like gaming, reading, or often even my day job.
I do enjoy the writing process when it hits the right notes and I often love the results, but it can be difficult and nerve-wracking. Most days it's something I get done and out of the way so I can get a move on and relax for the rest of the day. Does this make me a weirdo? 🤔 #WritingCommunity@writers
@ljwrites@writers Sounds very familiar to me. On a daily basis, it often feels like a burden, more than a joy, even though you can’t really do without it.
@ljwrites@writers I can relate. Even if I want to write I fight it. It’s almost beneficial to me to start early when I’m half asleep and then it’s not an issue later in the day, but I’m such a night owl that getting up earlier than I have to is not really on the cards for me 😝
