@CrabAndBroom @FlyingSquid There's also the Valeyard, which fits in somewhere between the 12th and nth Doctor, as well as Arabella Weir's alternate Doctor, Richard E. Grant's Doctor (who might be an alternate universe Doctor or a future incarnation).

The Children in Need skit can be ignored - as much as I adore Rowan Atkinson in the role - as well as the stage version. And Mark Gatiss, as great as he would be in a legitimate story.

While I am slumbering, everyone should take the prime opportunity to roast my current author bio. Yes, this is being sent whenever asked:

Gary James writes for many quality publications, and quite a few that are not. He lives in chaos, with his books and ghosts.

It's just occurred to me* that I probably ought to prepare an email newsletter to accompany publication day for my book.

Any tips from authors who've been through this before on what's most effective to include?

@drinkswriter @writingcommunity @writers Asking questions - and raising points - that you reveal in the book is the traditional way to approach newsletters pre-release, though normally there's a fair bit of time, and you can build anticipation. If the date is drawing nearer, then a more direct, blunt approach might be called for.

The best research is actually reading a lot of these types of newsletters in preparation for this, then finding your own take on common formats.
