61 years ago, August 6 1962, Jamaica gained independence under this flag. It is the only national flag in the world without either blue, red or white.

This was an initial proposal, with the same colors in a slightly boring horizontal triband:

green-yellow-black-triband

Another proposal rearranged it a bit, but was discarded as too similar to the flag of Tanganyika, which seems quite reasonable, since they did not know that problem would be short-lived:

In the end they went for the saltire, which seems like a great choice, creating a more unique and interesting design.

the green harp flag of ireland was great and I wish it was its flag now except the whole europe standardization. Interesting. Sri Lanka’s flag has teal and maroon, I’d say they aren’t really shades of blue and red. Also Kazakhstan’s flag’s background is cyan, not really blue. Distinction between colours and shades is a cultural thing.

Such a stupid subset of conditions. Am the best athlete in the world, who is about age, lives in my city, has keys to my doors and spends time in my room most of the day. Yay! Germany’s flag is also the only one which doesn’t have green or blue, is horizontal, in northern Europe and speaks german.
