i just joined lemmy a few days ago (after having signed up around the time reddit was protesting the api changes), and then migrated from reddit when Sync for lemmy released. And I love how easy it was to switch (apart from some ideas that are different, the fediverse and all that)
Tell that to my chemistry students when I go down a rabbit hole talking about science history.
5 minutes and three stories about badass chemists later, I look at a sea of faces that have glazed over and one raised hand: “Will this be on the test?”
Naw, they’re mostly adults as I teach at a community college, but I was also exaggerating. Most of them listen politely, with about a third actually paying attention.
And I make it clear in the first day that questions like “will this be on the test” are the fastest way to lose an instructor’s goodwill and patience, so most of them aren’t dumb enough to say that out loud.
I was mostly making a joke, but also it’s the metal genre that I think has the least going for it. Musically, it doesn’t do too much to distinguish itself from related subgenres, and lyrically, well, it’s goregrind.
That said, I’m not that well versed in goregrind, so I’m sure there’s some that could change my mind.
