She really is looking very neat! Possibly also just the effect of all the practise and experience though. I like the sort of flecky fabric too, it’s a nice contrast with the flat colours.
I have had a super disrupted week after husband’s surgery last Wednesday, but been getting back to stitching the last couple of days. Here is a kind of confusing shot of the right side of my Steampunk World Map (all the little awkward bits down that side are new since last time), and a basic spoopy house silhouette I designed that needs to be finished by Friday but I accidentally watched a bad video while stitching on it and made myself motion sick 🤮
I love that steampunk map and I’m considering if I want to try it myself lol! The spooky house is looking good too despite the setbacks!
The fabric I used on this one is called “fiddlers cloth”. It was for sale with all the regular aida cloth at the fabric store so I thought I would try it out. It’s a bit more expensive than the regular cloth, but it’s stiffer and holds tension better which is really good for me! I thought it would look better than the plain green background in the pattern
Nah, you’re not at fault. These little fuckers are terrible. They also break your thread if you have to pull too hard. I’ve given up and now I’m just using a giant needle if I’m using the full 6 strands. I’ll probably order some of the metal hook kind but for now it’s fine.
I was so busy yesterday I forgot to post here! Prince Vegeta is slowly coming together, however I ran out of black and the new black I got eneded up being a thicker thread that makes part of his hair look darker, so I’m not sure what to do about that lol
I saw it after you mentioned it. When something like this happens to me I usually frog it 🐸. I just can’t unsee it and it annoys me, ruining the experience. If that isn’t you, leave it be. Otherwise, go with your gut and your inner 🐸. Also make sure you get the same batch of black if this skein isn’t enough.
It irritates me for sure, but not enough to start all the way over lol
This was definitely bad management on my part, I did not realize just how much black I was going to need for this and ran out. The black I started with was part of a multipack that I really didn’t need to buy again so I tried to match it as best I as I could. Since it’s just the black section that is mismatched I may try to fix it with a sharpie once I’m done
I love how casually you’re just like “yeah imma draw on it”. That’s the kind of resourcefulness I both admire and also try and shamefully hide when I do it myself.
Another possibility might be that, assuming you stitched with two threads, maybe adding a third thread on the top leg of the less cover-y stitches might be enough to blend them in? Just a thought. I’m sure colouring it in with pen will also work 😂
It’s a habit I picked up in art school lol! Very often you would notice some small flaw and hour before a project was due so you use whatever is on hand to fix it quick!
Was about to yell at you for being so fast but then I realised the pattern is printed on the fabric and not already all stitched up. Yeah I’m fractious today 😅
Yeah I had a thing for stamped kits. That’s how I got into the hobby in the first place. Nowadays I prefer the traditional method but this felt like a cheap treat so I got it on impulse!
This is a really tricky one. I actually made a video comparing all the free tools I could find last summer, scoring them on how well they converted three different sorts of image and whether they generated Pattern Keeper compatible files. I made this table in Notion with the results. It took ages and was very tedious 😆 notion.so/Cross-stitch-converter-comparison-b08b4…
As you can see there was no perfect tool that did everything, and not many of them were much use in terms of Pattern Keeper! The other complication being backstitch, as PK doesn’t handle that regardless.
What definitely does make good PK files is WinStitch, which isn’t free but is fairly affordable if you plan to make a habit of this. I’ve not really used its image conversion feature but it’s popular software so there are probably examples made with it all over the internet. The demo might be worth a look to see how it works, if you don’t find anything free.
Looks great! The single strand was definitely a good call. I bought these patterns a while back as well and this is definitely helping me finally think about starting them!
As challenging as this one has been it’s also a lot of fun! I want to make more of them but I may pick one of the less chaotic patterns for the next one lol!
On my first attempt the double strand looked amazing for all the big borders but all the little details in between kind of got swallowed up and lost, and when I started stitching the main figure with double strand, he just kind of looked like a cartoon supervillain lol
I decided to try another blackwork pattern! I found a bunch of tarot card patterns over at circlecross.net so I will be working on that for a while. I managed to get most of the border done so far!
This is super cool! I’ve been playing this game that has some really pretty tarot cards and I was thinking about maybe embroidering some, but the blackwork really works for this.
Thanks! I’ve been working on it here and there throughout the day and I’m thinking I may start over and do single strand instead. The double strand looks good on the borders but now that I’m stitching the figure it’s starting to look too cartoony
You could always leave the border as is and switch for the figure. What you have here looks great, and there’s nothing wrong with different strands for different parts of the design, I don’t think.
Since I posted the picture I’ve already done a lot of the main figure with two strands, so for now I’m going to keep it going and see if it looks better once I fill in more details. I think I may start a second one with two strands just on the borders and see which one looks better
We had a very similar situation with !knitting a while back and long story short I took over there and have been doing my best.
IF nobody else steps up, I’d be ok doing it here too. But I am begging the other regulars to consider volunteering instead, I have no aspirations to become some sort of crafting community powermod 😅
Or maybe two or three of us could take it on together and cover each others backs, safe in the knowledge that we’ve got timezones covered for spam incidents (which are the only kind of incidents I’ve seen in here, crafters are generally pretty un-dramatic). That way it’s not on any one person and nobody needs to stress.
I have appointed you as the new moderator. Thanks!
I agree that it would be great for others to pitch in, too. If anyone else volunteers, I am happy to give them mod rights, too. You can also do it yourself now.
Feel free to unpin or delete this post whenever you think it has been up long enough.
Look, I am considering it. I have some serious issues with Lemmy lately, especially after the new update that broke jerboa for me. Even after updating the app it still barely works. Rest of the apps seem to make my phone freeze for whatever reason. I’ll try sorting that out and consider volunteering!
Appreciate you considering it! There’s definitely a lot of issues with 0.19, it took me about three tries to open this post today because lemm.ee has been struggling. But pretty much every big update has been the same so if it follows the pattern, in a few days they’ll sort out the urgent performance issues and we can all get back to normal 🤞
Apparently me even voicing the tentative willingness to be the emergency backup plan was enough and I am now mod, so I’ll give it a few days and see if anyone else fancies it but given my experience with the knitting community I can confirm that it’s not any actual work being mod of places like this, it’s just having someone there on the off-chance something kicks off.
I do have some homemade lampshades that could do with tassels… I’d need to save up a lot more bits of thread though! That may become the long term goal for these
With the steep price of $0.66 USD they cost around here I’m willing to invest in up to 15 skeins in one shopping visit. This is clearly the only reason I have not attempted any of the 80+ color 25" full coverage patterns I’ve found yet 😅
