there are several alternate methods, e.g. using a toothbrush or a hairbrush . google “needle thread hairbrush” for more info/videos.

I just went to JoAnnes and got one of the steel needle threaded hooks someone recommended in another comment. It works great!

Yep! Never been on one before but I always wanted to try it ever since I was a kid. It was great! I am so sad to be back on boring dry land 😭
