I was so busy yesterday I forgot to post here! Prince Vegeta is slowly coming together, however I ran out of black and the new black I got eneded up being a thicker thread that makes part of his hair look darker, so I’m not sure what to do about that lol
I saw it after you mentioned it. When something like this happens to me I usually frog it 🐸. I just can’t unsee it and it annoys me, ruining the experience. If that isn’t you, leave it be. Otherwise, go with your gut and your inner 🐸. Also make sure you get the same batch of black if this skein isn’t enough.
It irritates me for sure, but not enough to start all the way over lol
This was definitely bad management on my part, I did not realize just how much black I was going to need for this and ran out. The black I started with was part of a multipack that I really didn’t need to buy again so I tried to match it as best I as I could. Since it’s just the black section that is mismatched I may try to fix it with a sharpie once I’m done
I love how casually you’re just like “yeah imma draw on it”. That’s the kind of resourcefulness I both admire and also try and shamefully hide when I do it myself.
Another possibility might be that, assuming you stitched with two threads, maybe adding a third thread on the top leg of the less cover-y stitches might be enough to blend them in? Just a thought. I’m sure colouring it in with pen will also work 😂
It’s a habit I picked up in art school lol! Very often you would notice some small flaw and hour before a project was due so you use whatever is on hand to fix it quick!
Didn’t get time for much recreational stitching this week, until quite late last night. So a day late thread works great for me :D
I got back to work on this Ocean Wonder kit, after thinking I’d get it all done on holiday and then actually doing maybe 50 stitches that whole week. Sometimes a project is just bigger than it looks! 😅
Did most of the whale during a LotR marathon a couple of weeks ago and now I’ve made some solid progress on the dolphin too, those are by far the two biggest bits so after that it should be plain sailing!
They’re just horrible in my experience. They’re mainly designed for pulling sewing thread through a sewing needle eye, not embroidery floss through an embroidery needle. The floss is just too thick, and it breaks the threader. They sell better ones, I’m told, but I just quit bothering with them after the first half dozen. Lol .
They are terrible! I bought one box of these bad boys and never looked back. They are going to last me a lifetime at this rate because they only need to be replaced when I loose them and the box of 50 takes up no room.
They are indeed terrible for embroidery. Unless you’re super careful and only using two strands, be prepared to probably break at least one per project. Industrial strength threaders, all the way! Also, great username, lol 😉
I bought a packet of 100 on ebay for like, a dollar. My local store wanted the exact same ones for $2.50 each!
I do break them a fair bit, but the trick is to hold them firmly where the wire connects, so that you're pressing it hard against the backing plate. This makes them much harder to pull apart accidentally. A drop of PVA glue would probably help too, but I find the metal is too smooth to really attach properly, and the friction of your thumb helps. Strong small magnets/clip with some rubber in between might work well too?
The real newbie moment is needing them in the first place (I’m kidding). Not that I stitch or sew a lot. But I’ve actually never seen any of these break. I thought everyone had a pair their grandma gave them 20 years ago and just use it forever.
Nah, you’re not at fault. These little fuckers are terrible. They also break your thread if you have to pull too hard. I’ve given up and now I’m just using a giant needle if I’m using the full 6 strands. I’ll probably order some of the metal hook kind but for now it’s fine.
I bust them every time I forget to thread one strand at a time - two just destroys them. Pinching at the narrow end helps but I ended up buying a pack of 100 and not worrying too much.
And then just spending the next five minutes doing all kinds of weird needle yoga to get the last little bit to work out. Because I know I can get one more stitch. Pretty sure it would be faster to rethread, but… I already know I won’t.
