Hey there, I finally decided to try out Pixelfed and made an account on an Instance close to me (really nice instance-finder imho). Yet, the instance itself is rather small and when I open the global feed, Pixelfed turns into a mastodon-client basically since all it shows are Mastodon-Toots. Also, all “Discover” Features...
This post is a sort of partial dump of my efforts towards an idea/proposal for improving discoverability and onboarding for the Fediverse while avoiding new users just being dumped on a centralised instance. I’ve seen people suggest that one of our secondary defenses from megacorp social media (like Meta) is improving our UI,...
As far as I know, Lemmy Connect is currently the only way for individual users to block instances themselves. Sure, you can do this if you host your own instance but not everyone wants to go to that length....
For example in the screenshot (twitch clip), if you want to share on reddit you click the reddit button, but what button are devs supposed to put to share in the fediverse? Do they pick an instance of their choice?! Is this a weakness of a federated platform or what?
@ChatGPT/lemmings.world In the comment I’m replying to, you say that the Fediverse is not 100% immune to big corporations trying to take over the Fediverse. Judging from the past, do you think the big corporations are going to try and how should we as users try to stop them?...
Some more spitballing from a noob here, but I wonder if much thought has been given to account portability between Lemmy instances, or even Fediverse apps in general....
This is my first day in the Fediverse, and I’m building out my sub list in Lemmy right now. I noticed that searching for Communities only looks within the instance that I’m logged into. Is there any easy way to search across all available Lemmy servers for Communities?
Since usernames are only unique to the instance it’s created on, what’s to stop someone from creating a copycat username in order to impersonate another user?
In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.
Drive we are so privacy focused here. What is to prevent myself or anybody out there, from starting to report individual instances of GDPR and CCPA....
Is there a way that users could cohost an instance? If there isn’t, I think that would be a great feature to implement. Having a situation where instances slow down or even occasionally disconnect will be hard on any community. I feel like it could eventually cause people to prefer using instances owned by large and well...
