I would almost want this on a fleece blanket lol

drailin,
@drailin@kbin.social avatar

The reason I did it was because the group wanted a world map poster of my homebrew setting to put up on the wall, but I am not a skilled enough artist to make it look nice enough. Professional, pre made maps ARE withing my skillset to make a massive poster from.

CharlotteRain, in The Gigantic 7ft×7ft Dungeon Map for Tegel Manor I Put Together

Now it is time to frame it and put it on the wall!

polarbear236, in The Gigantic 7ft×7ft Dungeon Map for Tegel Manor I Put Together

That’s pretty awesome, what was the process like?

drailin,
@drailin@kbin.social avatar

I printed the map using a poster/plotter printer in two sections that I split up in photo shop, scaling the map size and resolution to fit a 1in player grid (the grid marks are there, but faint).

I then taped 12 2ft×2.5ft foamcore boards together and glued down the map, using gluesticks for the majority and hot glue to keep the edges down. I taped it so that it is a trifold, condensing down to a single 7ft×21in panel for storage and transport.

Someone else here in the comments suggested cottons balls for fog of war, so I am gonna get those and some poster tack to keep it all vertical. I am gonna track their progress by making player tokens and using poster tack to keep them on the board.

polarbear236,

Gotta give you props, that is way more effort than I put in for my players, results look great though

mrbincow,

You’re doing way more for your players than I have time to do. Looks awesome!

Real MVP play is telling us all how it was done

Xandar437, in The Gigantic 7ft×7ft Dungeon Map for Tegel Manor I Put Together

Impressive, so do you actually use it, and if so, how ? That won’t fit on a standard table 😀

drailin,
@drailin@kbin.social avatar

My thought was to make player tokens and use poster tack to move them around as they explore, keeping it all vertical.

I just finished it this morning at 2:30, so I still haven't worked everything out, but the first reveal will be today, even if I don't think they will start using it today.

youessbee, in The Gigantic 7ft×7ft Dungeon Map for Tegel Manor I Put Together

Very impressive! How would you handle Fog of War?

TellumSiege,
@TellumSiege@kbin.social avatar

I was wondering this too. My first thought was cotton balls.

drailin,
@drailin@kbin.social avatar

I had been struggling with figuring that out, but cotton balls with a bit of poster tack to keep them attached will be perfect! Thanks for the idea. I was going to do black cardstock with each room cut out, but your suggestion is 1,000,000× easier

TellumSiege,
@TellumSiege@kbin.social avatar

Anytime! And FWIW we've used cotton balls in the past and they worked perfectly. Even looked like fog of war lol. You could even spray paint them black/grey if you want to go the extra mile.

@calvinball@mtgzone.com avatar

Wow! What is it made out of? Plastic?

drailin,
@drailin@kbin.social avatar

The map is on paper, using a poster/plotter printer I have access to through work, and the backing is foamboard. Only $40 in materials all said and done.

SDK, in The Gigantic 7ft×7ft Dungeon Map for Tegel Manor I Put Together

That’s amazing! What is it fastened to? Wood? Cardboard? Poster board? Something else?

Well done friend.

drailin,
@drailin@kbin.social avatar

Poster board! It is foldable too, condenses to a single 7ft×21in panel for storage/transportation

AnanasMarko, in The Gigantic 7ft×7ft Dungeon Map for Tegel Manor I Put Together

Oh, man! Looks awesome! Is it digital and is there a link where we could buy / download it?

drailin,
@drailin@kbin.social avatar

It can be downloaded from drivethruRPG here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product_reviews_info.php?&reviews_id=446386&products_id=299103

I got the maps for free because my dad backed the project in development and it came with the digital maps, but he had no use for them.

**edit for transparency: I didn't draw the map, just to make that clear, I just made the poster to 1in grid scale

runningromeo, in [ICv2] Ultra PRO Announces 'Dungeons & Dragons: Premium Dungeon Master Screen'

What I don’t understand - especially in this crazy mixed up post-COVID world - is why new DM screens like this never have a built in tablet stand.

Also, why are they always portrait? Give me something lower-profile any day of the week.

Fredselfish,
@Fredselfish@lemmy.world avatar

Something you could custom build. Be interesting.

Bluerat,

DragonSheild’s new fancy stuff is landscape and actually looks pretty cool www.dragonshield.com/roleplaying/

runningromeo,

Holy crap their player companion looks super cool as well: thanks for the recommendation!

bluesydney, in [PC Gamer] Never before seen, 22-year-old E3 presentations help explain the rough first impression—and enduring appeal—of BioWare's other Dungeons & Dragons RPG

That’s really cool. Would be awesome to play that today.

Basilisk, in Non 5e players

I’m not actively playing, but I’ve got a 4e one-shot ready for the next time my group can’t do the regular game, and I keep threatening them with 3e.

qwamqwamqwam, in Campaign?

Maybe tell us a little bit about yourself so people might know if you’re a good fit for their campaign?

Currens_felis,

I’m up for anything as long as it isn’t unnecessarily tedious like Tomb of Annihilation. I like stories with enough lore to dive into if I’m interested, but not so much that it takes time away from other things.I’m fine with violence, nudity and stuff like that as long as it has a purpose within the story.

Leshoyadut, in [PC Gamer] D&D's upcoming virtual tabletop radiates a big-budget misunderstanding of what matters in role-playing games
@Leshoyadut@kbin.social avatar

It’s interesting to me that we could already see the signs of some of this just based on what they defined to break the VTT-specific rules of the OGL update, which was anything that had effects that made it too video-game-y. Showed they fundamentally misunderstood what VTTs are for and do six months ago, and it seems that hasn’t changed.

ReadyUser31, in [5e] Tomelock Cantrip Suggestions

So firstly Pact of Tome allows you to take any class’s can trips. You don’t need to limit it just to warlock cantrips.

Guidance is probably the strongest utility choice although it depends how much tolerance your DM has for you Guidance-ing everything.

Shape water and mold earth are also really good fun and occasionally helpful.

Minor illusion also has a ton of uses, but I’m not sure it can be used to forge anything? It won’t withstand being touched.

You might want a damage cantrip which uses a saving throw (in case of high AC enemies) and you can’t go wrong with Toll the Dead.

SakaiSama, (edited )

Thanks for the tips, I forgot that you can take other class cantrips!! I’ve got an artificer with guidance, so we’re good there.

I’m interested in shape water thematically, but I don’t really see how this spell can be used to really solve problems. How are you supposed to utilize this spell?

By forging documents I mean like make a piece of paper look like whatever we need upon an inspection, temporarily of course— sorry for the confusing wording!!

I agree about the saving throw cantrip. I’m considering mind sliver for that so the other casters have an easier time with their attacks, but the toll the dead damage is respectable too. I’ll probably save this for my level 10 cantrip though, since my party is mostly casters and we will get decent non-attack roll cantrips without me.

ReadyUser31,

So I think with shape water you can freeze the water? And again, DM dependent, this might mean you can break locks, traps and other delicate machinery (or maybe even stone blocks and the like). Frozen water can form steps. Animating the water can be fun too - remember that minor illusion can’t move.

Mind sliver is also a good shout!

SakaiSama,

I see where the power is now in this cantrip. I’ll definitely consider it! What are your thoughts on friends as a utility spell?

ReadyUser31,

I’m pretty sure it’s widely seen as being completely useless. If you have allies who are also proficient in the social skill they can give you advantage, and then you don’t have an angry NPC realise an enchantment spell is wearing off and come at you.

SakaiSama,

I see. Thanks for the advice!
