@StrassenKatze@actuallyautistic i still remember the childhood friend i recently reconnected with whose reaction was a 3 minute voice message where she explained that she is "actually a bit autistic as well" but she has done a lot of mindfulness n shit and now whenever she gets the impulse to do "one of these behaviours" she just, doesn't do them!!
@pinkpenguin@StrassenKatze@actuallyautistic i had a friend who wasgoing to start marketing that shit. i told him it's ableist, he didn't want to hear it. that was the last straw, in a string if ableist fuckery.
T: "A guy that worked here was autistic. They are so hard to work with"
M: "oh hey, I'm on the spectrum as well!"
T: "on the spectrum... No, I mean he was actually an autist. Like, a real one, not like you. You don't understand how difficult they can be!"
When someone starts talking about autism, I'm usually quick to mention that I'm part of that. To prevent horrible remarks. This guy just went ahead and doubled down :)
@tazedhippo@actuallyautistic oh, I love (/s) this flavor of idiot.
They're the same people that call women "females" and then turn around and tell you that you're different, because you're not like these other hussies 🤢
@StrassenKatze@actuallyautistic seeing my friends be surprised when their kids get a dx and like "I thought we knew? Did you not know? But you're both... oh, nevermind, you'll get there in your own time."
Which is funny to me, because for some of them, the reason I set off on my path of discovery was because one or another of their siblings received a dx and I wanted to be supportive so went full special interest on the subject of autism...
@Aerliss@StrassenKatze@actuallyautistic Sometimes, NTs can do it too. Mrs Wife has a new friend with an autistic son. The friend knew about my autism before we did.
It makes me wonder how many other people have known or strongly suspected it over the years, and never said anything, at least in a form I was able to understand at the time.
