so, I learned that can not only get your posts, even if you blocked them (via different servers that didn't and that store your posts cus people there may follow you or interact with you), they can also monetize those posts by showing ads next to them. Thus making money off of you. Put that together with all the genocidal and fascist and other harmful activity. It makes me think that the of the has begun. The cycles seem to move faster and faster. I love it here and I've had many elightening convos and beautiful connections. Today I read that 41% of servers have blocked threads. Maybe there is still hope.
Esp. the neurodivergent community on here is the best I've ever experienced.

Something I've love to dive deeper into is how many AFAB or genderqueer individuals have been dx'd with Borderline Personality Disorder rather than Autism due to their past trauma?

Yes, I know they overlap. I've done the research including getting out my "Abnormal Psych" textbook.

But I also have some personal theories and I'm curious to hear from other self dx'd autistics misdiagnosed by mental healthcare. TY

I had hoped to go out to a show tonight, but nope... Taking a drive at dusk to pick something up at the store for my mom used up all of the mental energy I had, and by the time I got home, I was in full blown headache mode.

One of the things I hate about winter is how early it gets dark. Being out at dusk is SO much more overstimulating in the winter because other people are still out and about when it gets dark at 4, so you get a face full of headlights when you're driving around.... and the mixture of astigmatism making lights looking streaky and autism's overstimulation.... I just can't.

So, once again I've cancelled my plans to stay home in the dark because it's too much to take a drive and go out tonight, and I am so frustrated about it and my lack of planning to make it work.

So, one of my dude's autistic quirks is he can't stand unread notifications on any website not being zero and has a compulsion to clear notifications, and I watched him get into a notification clearing loop for almost half an hour with an AI chat bot on a local temp work agency website.

Every time you navigated to a new page on the website the AI chat bot asked if you needed help making an unread message, so he'd open the bot chat to clear the notification, then navigate to the next page, where the bot would ask it's question again, and he'd open and close the chat to make it go away, getting more and more frustrated as he went from page to page. I don't think he ever found the information he was looking for on the website because he spent so much energy distracted by the existence of the chat bot in the corner trying to get his attention.

In retrospect, I probably should have intervened after I noticed him repeat the pattern twice, but I'll admit that my autistic curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to see how long he was gonna get stuck in the pattern loop before he gave up.

If you could describe a 'perfect' family, how close would that family be?

How often would they meet / talk?

After a conversation with a counsellor I am confused.

I thought that closeness in families was a good thing, as long as you all get on reasonably well, but apparently it's 'bad' and any family that is close is 'enmeshed'.

I would like to know what you think?

Psychiatry in the west has been built upon a long history of colonial aggression. If you are part of a minority group, chances are you will end up in a psychiatrists office at some point in your life.

Psychiatry then positions the problem in your brain, rather than the political and material circumstances of your life.

Psychiatry needs to do better.

@tirok @DivergentDumpsterPhoenix @actuallyautistic @autisticadvocacy no, because then psychiatry would have to be founded on mistakenly bad research for over a century (very unlikely), instead of being founded in white supremacist ableism. this is the same pseudo-science that brought the world harmful nonsense like phrenology, IQ tests, lobotomy, forced castration, and medical experimentation on racialised humans. it has been a way of imprisoning enslaved people who were captured after attempted escape, and a tool of genocide. psychiatry has been used to oppress gay people and women, and is still used to oppress women and trans people in different ways that still amount to gaslighting, denial of dignity of self (ie denial of trans identity without doctor approval), and sometimes mutilation (ie surgery without consent).

the last reported forced sterilisation of an Indigenous woman in a canadian hospital happened in 2019.

no, my understanding is not off any mark. you're late to the party.

the person who made fedilab made an active decision to specifically not block nazi instances. if you ally yourself with nazis, that necessarily makes youone of them. this isn't a case of "you could visit any website with your web browser", but rather "dev openly made the choice, first, to block Gab, then, to unblock and go full freeze peach". if you stand with him, you're one of them too.

@dan @actuallyautistic @ratcatcher @UnCoveredMyths @chelonaute @otheorange_tag instances can be blocked in mastodon clients, exactly how it is done with Tusky. the devs of Tusky know that Gab is a nazi playground full of dangerous people, at least one of whom owes millions of dollars in hate crime charges and a jail sentence if he returns to Ontario, and is definitely, unquestionably, willing to commit racist acts of physical violence, as he has many times before. they said "fuck that noise" and appropriately made it impossible to use their software to access that instance. it is one of the ways that Gab was effectively silenced and ostracised into its own special corner, where it belongs.

I've heard of it before - people using white noise machines and such, but I've never tried it before. I guess I can put this on my list of life hacks that actually work ☑️

I'm . The sound of the train blowing its horn as it passes my house makes me cover my ears in pain. But the throbbing bass of the engine that causes a deep pressure in my chest from the vibration makes me feel happy.

When I was a kid, I used to crank up the bass of my parents' stereo and sit directly against the woofer to feel that pressure. They would always yell at me to turn it down. I've always loved that feeling.

@enobacon Ottawa does that in some places! at the bottom of the hill my street is on, there's a speed hump that will definitely do some damage to your car if you bomb the hill. i always see people with brand new Lamborghinis and Corvettes trying to navigate a road their car wasn't made for, and sometimes really fucking it up because they have hardly any clearance to begin with.
