Damn, what country are you in? I bought at the tail end of the 2008 crash. Things were still low but, coming back up. I think I’m at 4.5%
My friends parents bought in 2007 and keep making terrible financial decisions so they can’t refinance. If I understood right their interest rate is 15% or something INSANE.
Romania. We are in the EU but not in the €urozone. We still use the local currency. For the same amount in € the rate is 6.40%. Total ripoff compared to the Northern/Western parts of the EU which is why I didn't sign shit. They can go fuck themselves.
Thanks for asking! Lately I've been trying to cut down time spent in social media and other apps to be more present at home and giving more attention to people around me.
I've also tried to take more active role in meal preparation, my wife has appreciated that. :)
Google search has been going down gradually year by year for the last decade for me. My searches have now devolved to just having google search Reddit, like most people now. I recently started using Brave and I liked that it was recapping information for me. DuckDuckGo has been hit or Miss. I’ve started seeing people me toon SearX, which I need to try.
I wish there were a search engine that prioritized searching through places like Reddit, stack exchange, Quora, etc. vs the random clickbait websites trying to sell Amazon links.
I haven’t used it as my main search engine in years. VERY rarely I escape hatch to google search for weird queries. That used to sometimes work, now it never seems to work (or my queries have gotten more niche over time hah)
I've been using it less because I constantly get challenged with captchas when trying to use it with my VPN. I like DDG's privacy, but I'm not fond of it as a search engine. I heard good things about Brave search. I've been using their browser for about a year, so I may as well give their search engine a try.
Switched to DuckDuckGo a while ago. Used to be able to get much better results by adding "site:reddit.com" to the search phrase. Esp. when searching for technical information or solutions to problems.
Google's search results have been second-guessed 'not what you were looking for', SEO crap and minimum-quality filler for a long time. Putting Reddit in as a search option was about the only thing that kept it usable, and now that everyone's deleting their comments and leaving, that's going to go to shit as well.
For me, when I'm trying trying to recall a song name, and you search for "song lyrics" then half the words in the chorus, Google just won't help you any more. That put me off it years ago, have been on DDG since.
lemmy.ml is blocking kbin requests, meaning kbin instances get an error when trying to retrieve new posts and comments.
It's still unclear why they are doing it, but it seems to be deliberate as they are specifically blocking the kbin user agent (some text kbin uses to identify itself to other fediverse servers).
I assume they're trying to defederate without actually limiting the freedom of their own users. By just blocking requests from kbin instances, their own users can still use kbin magazines as they please, only kbin users are excluded from federation.
