I love answering questions

ryan97, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?
@ryan97@lemmy.world avatar

I like kbin's UI better, however Lemmy lets you click on a thumbnail to expand the picture inline, whereas on kbin clicking the thumbnail just opens the comments. So right now it's Lemmy, purely for usability

Gamers_Mate, in Why do some people have a extreme hate for Furries?

I think a large part of it has to do with a lack of education and not liking groups that are different.

DreamySweet, in You just won One Billion Dollars, what are you buying?
@DreamySweet@vlemmy.net avatar

Buying stuff is how you stop being a billionaire.

gatlace,

buying liabilities is how you stop being a billionaire. buying assets is how you become a billionaire. big difference

metaStatic,

making money is easy, keeping it is the hard part

MrTomLegit, in What's an innocent misconception about your hobby/profession that drives you up the wall?
@MrTomLegit@kbin.social avatar

I am a Windows and Cloud administrator. As soon as people hear cloud and computers, they start thinking that I am personally involved with building the metaverse and could work for NASA. Meanwhile, all the people on the technical sites and subreddits inflame my imposter syndrome every day.

SuiXi3D,
@SuiXi3D@kbin.social avatar

Every time someone learns that I build PCs as a hobby, they almost all ask me about things relating to electrical engineering. Look, socketing a CPU isn’t rocket science. And no, I can’t fix your computer.

BenGFHC,

If you can't fix my computer can you fix my wifi instead?

parrot-party,
@parrot-party@kbin.social avatar

After I get done with your printer.

qprimed, in Aside from Trump or Biden, Who do you wanna see as the President of the United States of America?

without a doubt, bernie would have been amazing in 2016, but he has inspired a significant revival of left-ish leaning, socially aware young politicians and citizenry - so there is that. as others have said, jon stewart and stephen colbert for some sane comic relief would be interesting.

looking for some serious reponses as well so I can research and follow.

PanaX, in Aside from Trump or Biden, Who do you wanna see as the President of the United States of America?

John Stewart with Stephen Colbert.

Anissem, in Aside from Trump or Biden, Who do you wanna see as the President of the United States of America?

Camacho for President!

stackPeek, in Best news aggregator? Where do you get your news?
@stackPeek@kbin.social avatar

For IT/computer science-related news, I always relied on news.ycombinator.com

Also probably Twitter, but I'm starting to use it less and less...

stevecrox, in Best news aggregator? Where do you get your news?
@stevecrox@kbin.social avatar

I used to use Feedly to aggregate RSS feeds and then rely on Reddit subbreddits for discussion on topics for the "hello person who wrote/made thing discussed"

Lazerpig/Perun both had "Ground News" as adverts, you can treat it as a RSS Feed Reader, but it also tracks mainstream news sources.

The nice part is I used to follow The Guardian and The Telegraph for opposing news stories, that's effectively built in, you see each story with all sources reporting on it and where they lie politically.

It has a "blindspot" feature which pushes stuff your not looking at. Initially it was pretty "here is random us state politics" which as a British person I don't care. The blindspots are now british focussed, I still don't care but atleast its British things I know off and don't care about (Like Prince Harry).

It costs £2.99 per month, so I'll share my referral. I don't i believe I don't get anything from it but it gives a 1 month free trial. https://ground.news/download and use this referral code 9409938.

TurboRotary,

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I'd seen Ground News before, but I didn't think it was anything more than all the other news aggregators. Your description, however, has made me really interested!

Can you comment on the benefits of subscribing at the various levels versus the free tier?

Jormar, in Why do some people have a extreme hate for Furries?
@Jormar@kbin.social avatar

@Alexmitter Bad experiences.

Sylveon-Z, in I just found out that the people onboard the Titan submarine are dead. Is OceanGate in trouble?
@Sylveon-Z@kbin.social avatar

Not only is the CEO dead, I think that people are going to be a lot more hesitant going on anything the company makes from now on. That's not even mentioning the possibility of them being sued.

nevernevermore,

That's not even mentioning the possibility of them being sued.

Hadn't even thought of this tbh but yeah a bunch of wealthy people died, their families are going to milk the company for every penny

RheingoldRiver,

oh wait, the CEO is literally dead, like, he was on the submarine. I thought at first you meant, "The CEO is most definitely out of the company after this" but, you meant that literally.

TimeSquirrel,
@TimeSquirrel@kbin.social avatar

Pretty sure after this they are done, I'm not sure you would be able to find someone on this planet moronic enough to go with them again.

Itsyaboimuf, in Why do some people have a extreme hate for Furries?

This article provides a pretty good breakdown of 9 reasons why people would be hostile towards furries.

The one that stood out to me most and was my first thought was:

  1. Lack Of Understanding - As with anything new, there is a general lack of understanding of the furry community. The older generation has a more difficult time coming to terms with the furry lifestyle (…) Unfortunately, many people are not willing to give furries any patience. They hate them right away, without a second thought, just because they are different from them.
TimeSquirrel,
@TimeSquirrel@kbin.social avatar

older generation

Do they mean the boomers, because I'm 41 and I've been into the fandom for the past 25 years. It's been around for a few decades at this point.

CentristDipshit, in Best news aggregator? Where do you get your news?

I use RSS feeds. Feeder on Android. Elfeed with Eww on Emacs (came from Newsboat). Curate it with my dotfiles in git repo.

Borgzilla,
@Borgzilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I'm a heavy Gnus user, but apparently Elffeed is much better for RSS.

CentristDipshit,

I really like Doom Emacs, and it's a very pleasing setup, once I got all the feeds tagged in the org file. Eww is nice, but embedded images sometimes take up half the screen.
