sukhmel,

Was one of the first anime series I was watching on purpose, not because it was broadcast. Too bad I never finished, and afaik it doesn’t cover all the manga (which I didn’t finish either 😭)

Ranma,

Did you call me ?

I am old enough to remember the 90’s when it was broadcasted on TV, it was quite big at the time.

shadowscale,

a friend of mine from church recommend this to me a full decade before my egg cracked, i got about halfway through season 2 before stopping because i couldn’t process the feelings. i read the manga this year (after being out for almost a year) and it’s pretty good

MisterNeon,

Ranma taught me that any everyday activity can be a martial art and multiple freaks out there want to destroy any sort of domestic relationship.

Damage,

Can you imagine if they made this cartoon today?

This is true “you wouldn’t be able to make this today” kind of media

x4740N,

*anime

Damage,

I wrote cartoon on purpose to bait those like you

Clbull,

Ranma 1/2 is one of those series that I wish got a remake or a decent Western localisation. Not only does it have an atrocious English dub, it also contains nudity that’s incompatible with many Western laws.

bdonvr,

I’ve never watched it, we had a box set when I was growing up. I assumed it was my step-mother’s as she’s far more into anime. But now maybe I think it was my mother’s (mtf bio father) lmao

lol, well fuck, I was a huge ranma fan back in the day

Pregnenolone,

If I could swap back and forth at what is essentially will then my life would be a lot easier

hikikoma,

Like Altered Carbon?

Oof I’ll never forget getting the first Ranma 1/2 manga as a kid. It was my first egg moment. All I could think was how I’d never touch hot water again.

I don’t even know why I got that manga, had never heard of it but it was on a list of manga that my local book store could order and I just randomly picked it. It took over 25 years after that for my egg to break but Ranma 1/2 awoke something in me. Growing up when and where I did I couldn’t really explore those feelings and ideas but I never stopped thinking about it.

when i was 11 i watched it and i didnt understand why they kept saying this was a curse because “it would be cool to be able to switch between genders like that” and “doesnt everyone wanna be both male and female??” clueless genderfluid child. i know several trans people whether nonbinary, transfem or transmasc that had their awakening because of ranma 1/2. Rumiko Takahashi cracked a lot of eggs with that series.

This. I vaguely remember my cousin asking if I knew about it, explained the premis, and I felt exactly the same.

Betch,
@Betch@lemmy.world avatar

Hahah right?! Didn’t sound like a curse at all. Not being able to switch between genders felt more like a curse to me.

For me it was the anime and quite the opposite feeling in regards to hot water…

But yeah, OP is right (name checks out), Ranma’s comedic treatment of gender is doing stuff to the minds of unsuspecting eggs.

Viking_Hippie,

I don’t even know why I got that manga

Did you like math a lot as a kid? Maybe it was the bizarre choice to have a fraction in the title that first attracted you? 🤔

Betch,
@Betch@lemmy.world avatar

Bahah I didn’t particularly like math but the fraction could’ve definitely piqued my curiosity.
