No comment on this movie in particular beyond love Will Forte, hate the talking dogs/mouth moving thing.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for starting to sticky threads with new movies to facilitate discussion!!! This is one of the things I liked about the movies community in the other place. And setting up these threads takes a lot of work!
Will forte is not in this movie. It’s will Ferrell.
I honestly think the movie looks like garbage. But that’s just me. If it were forte, I might actually reserve my judgement. But it’s not. It’s will Ferrell, and the man hasn’t had the most stellar record since…well, that’s up for debate. But it’s been a minute.
Edit: ah, my bad errybody, Forte is in it. Still… if it were him fronting the poster and being the main draw, I might feel differently about it. But right now it just feels like another “sausage party” type “non-family friendly family movie” with big names to put butts in seats. Stupid, raunchy humor just because you “can” isn’t my type of humor. I dunno, maybe I’ll be proven wrong when everyone tells me I need to see it and then I’ll enjoy it. Guess we’ll find out. But I had similar feelings about anchorman 2 or, well, sausage party. It’s gonna be dumb and doesn’t seem worth my time
On the one hand, you admit that it’s a low effort response. But by saying, ‘yet,’ you also acknowledge that an even lower effort response is still in your future. So here’s to continued improvement!
My wife and I saw the early screening last night in IMAX. The visuals live up to the hype, but honestly we were both very disappointed with… everything else. The story was as generic as it seemed in the trailers, and it goes on way longer than it should. The acting was fine, I guess. The actors put in work, they just didn’t have anything good to work with.
Everything that happens simply happens to serve the plot, not the characters. No one ever acts like a normal person, they are all just rote movie characters like it’s paint-by-numbers. And the editing is atrocious. There’s a lot of off-screen exposition, like they had to fill in story gaps. Similarly, scenes will just kinda end. Characters get into a predicament that seems impossible to escape? Cut away! Explain what happened? Nah, just keep moving cause we’ve got plot points we have to hit, and fast cause the audience certainly already knows where this is all heading anyway.
I love supporting original sci-fi in theaters, but this is just an unoriginal, bad movie imo.
I’ve seen it yesterday and I completely agree with you. Such a waste of money and time… I was so amazed during first 5 minutes but after an hour I wanted it to finally end.
I used A-List so it was free and I still felt ripped off.
My feelings toward the movie started strong and only dropped from there. My wife wanted to leave halfway but I hoped it would stick the landing. It only got worse from there and by the end I was rolling my eyes and laughing (not loudly) at how terrible it all became. It just kept going and it thought so highly of itself the whole time. The title cards felt so ridiculous in retrospect.
Y’ALL. It seems like nobody here has read a blue beetle comic or seen the movie, and you’re already shitting on it? Come on. This is the beginning of the new DCU, and any blue beetle fan can see from the trailer they’re going to be doing some interesting stuff in this movie. Be nice.
I only remember Blue Beetle from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The only thing I remember about the character as it was portrayed in the show was that it was blue. I hope that helps if anyone was having trouble understanding the character.
I feel like I just watched the entire movie in three minutes. There was even a final fight where the hero is on the brink of losing and uncovers a new well of power through desperate determination. And I still feel like I wasted my time.
I’ve never seen a trailer go that far, even the “1 day earlier” seems superfluous for a trailer but by the end of it there is literally nothing left untold
It’s the 2nd best live action comic book movie this year after Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but granted that’s a low bar compared to Shazam 2 and Quantumania.
So, without knowing anything about the source material, I have no interesting in seeing this film and the trailer didn’t do anything to change my mind.
But that’s me … if you’ve seen it, what was it that drew you in?
That’s cool! That sounds like the true experience fans are after in this comic movie era … see, for the first time, their fav character brought to life.
