verysoft,

Mine instantly loads. Perhaps there's some other stuff going on with hardware/software or something this person is running?

verysoft,

Witcher was also bug riddled and still is. The combat was sloppy as shit, but the story was great and it wasn't a pain to just stick to it, so the game worked overall. Starfield is just an expanse of nothing with a subpar plot and nothing to do but build on empty moons. Bethesda should have took the time to either adopt/adapt/create a new engine, I don't know how much longer they can go just patching the creation engine.

verysoft,

I agree, couldnt get through the game myself, ended up watching it on the side. Was just trying to be fair to it (but I secretly think it was very overrated).

verysoft,

This is just how refresh rates work? What's the relevance of the Steam Deck here?

verysoft,

There are people on Steam who haven't played Half-Life?

verysoft,

People love it and spend $20+ on these skins over and over again.

verysoft,

I think Black Ops 2 was the last best all-round CoD game. Had a good campaign, great multiplayer and fantastic zombies. Black Ops 3 was good for the zombies. Treyarch were CoD's final hope after the other studios games fell of a cliff and they also fell apart after BO3.

verysoft,

Yeah, Treyarch had some great devs honestly, it's a shame. They always brought new ideas to the franchise and a lot of them stuck around.

verysoft,

I imagine studios will be rushing to make them off the back of BG3's success. It's better if a game is made in it's own time from passion, rather than trying to cash in on a current trend/genre popularity.

verysoft,

Game should have ended in Act 2, the game does start to fall apart in Act 2 but Act 3 is absolute fucking mess. A shorter more polished experience would have been preferable for sure.

verysoft,

Reboot. Not a remake, the original characters and stories were great, the new ones are a fucking tradegy in comparison.

verysoft,

This is a reboot, reusing the same character names and stuff from the originals, but with different stories. I don't understand it myself, the generation that will play these games won't even remember MW. They should have just made new characters instead of tainting the existing ones.

verysoft,

Some of the fanbase finally started to realise they were just being milked.

verysoft,

I think they had the ideas guy in once every couple years and then they just reused the shit of the mechanic he came up with at that time.

verysoft,

Firefox + uBlock Origin here still holding strong.

verysoft,

I'd rather not personally. I can just disable all that anyway.

verysoft,

Yeah its fair enough, but it's easier to just use FF for me, I don't care if they want some anonymous usage statistics and trying to be fully private online is a fools errand. Base FF is good enough imo.

verysoft,

This guy needs a new logo. I was not expecting MUG to be Modern Vintage Gamer.

verysoft,

So stick a coca cola sticker on your burqa, now its for advertising

verysoft,

SP was always just unfunny and cheap to me, never enjoyed it or it's jokes. Agree with The Simpsons though, can throw on like any random episode and it's good watching. Gonna add Futurama in here, I find that great but most of the jokes in it are self-referenced, so it's better to watch them in order.

verysoft,

Imagining some kid just downing the entire egg now

Exactly! It's the perfect genre transition, there's no better time to get stuck into 4X and some of them juicy Sid Meier classics!

verysoft,

Don't downplay peoples valid concerns, we should strive for better performance in any game. Just because some people can put up with low framerates doesn't mean others should have to. I think 120fps at 1080p should be absolute minimum performance we should accept out of a game given the power of PCs these days.

verysoft,

Perhaps that is the case, but it also swings in the opposite direction of games being overpraised when there are glaring issues - see BG3. Bad press usually causes change a lot faster though and I find it refreshing when people actually leave negative reviews with their concerns. Although I agree there are the people who take it too far and just jump on a hate bandwagon, which ruins actual criticisms.

verysoft,

For smooth panning? Why would I want less?

verysoft,

Both are valid, I don't know why people want low framerates when we can have silky smooth ones.

verysoft,

You should make your next upgrade a 144Hz monitor!

verysoft,

I suppose we could call Cities 'C:S2' and Titanfall 'T2'?

verysoft, (edited )

Why pay for testing when consumers will happily pay the developers to do it? They will even defend your unfinished product for free!

verysoft,

What's your problem? It makes no sense to want a worse experience.

verysoft,

60fps is not plenty. You have never used higher have you? Low-end hardware these days is ridiculously powerful compared to what it used to be. Don't let poor optimisation in games condition you to thinking otherwise, they could all be running a lot better.

Anything with lots of camera panning is an objectively nicer experience at 120fps or higher.

verysoft, (edited )

This is so incorrect though. Nobody is expecting every game to run on every system at 4K@120Hz. CS has more fidelity and higher framerate than Cities, Rainbow Six Siege has even more fidelity and even more framerate than the both of them (talking like 600+ fps). Cities bottleneck should be CPU as it was in the first game. It should run very well to begin with and slow down the bigger and bigger the city gets, but that's not the case, it runs like ass from the get go. They built it from scratch, which is the best time to make sure it is performant during development, but in most cases devs seem to rush for feature complete instead, especially in the current environment of consumers accepting half-baked games.

It's not entitlement to expect more and it makes no sense to defend lackluster performance in games, if you don't care then just carry on enjoying it and let others ask for better. Again 1080p@120Hz is hardly an ask these days, any GPU/CPU from the last 8 years can handle that shit perfectly fine, hell even mobiles can run that now.

Games should be built to run well on today's hardware, not built to let future hardware take over. Incentivizing upgrades is just going to create more e-waste.

verysoft,

You brought fidelity and Counter Strike up. Cities Skylines 2 is not exactly an 'impressive' game to look at, a more stylised approach is better for this type of game, it doesn't need to look real and you spend hardly any time zoomed in anyway to notice fine details. Just looking at graphics the game performs horrendously for what it looks like. I don't think Cities Skylines was a bad looking game and I don't think Cities Skylines 2 trading off more performance for not a big leap in 'fidelity' is worth it. I think Cities Skylines looks better and more refined myself honestly, the art style fit it really well.

I can demand whatever performance I want? From FPS I expect higher than 120 even, it's just what is better for that game. For builders 120 as a baseline minimum is not a big ask and I would still expect it drop into the 90s and 60s once you build your city/whatever out. If you are fine stuck at 60fps or lower with all your games then congratulations, but I expect more from games these days that aren't exactly pushing the bar in other areas. I don't think graphics make a game, but games have been at a point where they don't need to look any better for years now, so performance should be the focus.

verysoft,

Act 3 - so many bugs, inconsistencies, crashes. The issues leak into the first two acts aswell, but act 3 is a real mess. The game really struggles to keep up with itself by that point.

verysoft,

It's an attempt at a quick cash grab by some publisher, abusing the LOTR IP and it's current resurgence in popularity. Epic Games only too. I wouldn't be surprised to hear later down the line how the devs have been on crunch to get a game out in a ridiculously short amount of time.

Space sim Squadron 42 is "feature-complete" and gunning for Starfield's lunch with massive new video (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

Squadron 42 is the single player campaign of Star Citizen, that is supposed to launch as a separate game. It's basically a small portion of Star Citizen, but with a story and ending. I'm still not confident; waited too long for that.

verysoft,

I mean, if they pull it off it will be great, but until it's in our hands, there are no expectations.

verysoft,

I think the S23 is the perfect size, I wish that was the standard, with some larger ones for people who like that.

verysoft,

That will be a side effect of them locking abitrary features behind the bigger and thus more expensive models, if there was feature parity smaller phones would probably still be the norm.

verysoft,

Is this bait?

verysoft,

So yes, it was bait.

verysoft, (edited )

Of course they do. The S23 for example is smaller than the iPhone 15, was the same price on release (came out Feb 2023) and has features beating the iPhone 15 Pro Max, a much bigger and more recent device. Most features/hardware on the bigger phones exist in smaller phones, most of the extra space on larger phones is usually just taken up by a larger battery anyway. They can go watch some teardowns, look into all the software locked features like with the recent Pixel 8 phones, instead of blindly jumping to the defence of these mega-corporations who only want to upsell.

But yes, obviously some features are a lot harder to fit in a smaller space, but I thought that was the obvious asterisk to my comment. Perhaps they should spend some R&D on figuring that out though, rather than rehashing the same devices year after year which is just leading to e-waste.

(I'd love the 3.5mm port back too, but they all want to sell their wireless 'buds' now, so not going to happen for that reason alone :c)

verysoft,

It's fab being in the forest when this happens, although dangerous, it's fun to walk along aha.

verysoft,

This is absolutely what they all are. I thought they would be more careful with the rights.

verysoft,

Triple A would fuck it just as much, would be poorly optimised trash riddled with MTX and/or DLC. No good studios want to take it on because it's a beloved world and they dont want to risk it, but these random studios youve never heard of will for that quick buck from the name.
