What a dead week

It may be worth taking a look at lemmy.studio for more through traffic and making your community easier to find

Yep, I still get emails from Facebook despite deleting my account 20 years ago

You can make your new account a moderator, no matter what instance it’s on. As long as it can post.

If your new instance defederates, you’ll still have your original account as a moderator.

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Surprised you never made that on lemmy.studio or lemmy.graphics

We can only offer suggestions and they’re only that, suggestions. We can’t make anyone do anything. OP was under the impression that they couldn’t moderate all their communities from one account if they were spread across instances. They’re now aware that this is not the case and perhaps something will change in the future. All we can do is offer advice in order to try and uplift people, communities and the threadiverse as a whole.

Seems like the same bug the football communities keep running into where some pins and unpins only federate to some instances and so they have to keep pinning and unpinning a few times.

If you stop shouting in the title of !futurology, I’ll be able to join without feeling like I did something wrong 🥺

Hey everyone, before you start dogpiling this person, take a step back and understand we’re all one family.

When I first joined Lemmy, I joined Beehaw. I can’t speak for all of the admins, but Lionir is one of the kindest most helpful people I’ve had the pleasure to meet. That said, between them not allowing community creation and defederating with the instance my football communities are on, I realised I had to find another home. If I was asked to articulate that at the time, I would’ve had no chance.

Our friend here is simply asking for an opportunity to commune with people beyond that of which his current admins enjoy. We don’t know what it is. I can’t speak for all of the people that were banned from anywhere. I know that I’ve met wonderful people from all servers. Yes even the terrible ones. Don’t judge people by their instance. Unless they’re admins and their instance is full of Nazis. Then please judge them.

I don’t understand why you would take someone wanting to branch out and find their wings as a personal insult or threat.

Please just remember that we’re a team. We make this place good by interacting civilly with one another.

Also if you are familiar with Rust or PostgreSQL, please take a look at the Lemmy Github and see if you’re capable of contributing towards getting account migration sorted.

The only instance that has the true number is the host instance.

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Basically your instance will start logging the numbers from the first person on your instance interacts with community AND will only log local subscriptions and votes. Obviously a bigger instance is likely to have someone connect before you more than a smaller one. It’s funny because I will create a post from my instance and think it flopped, only to check it from another instance and it did numbers.

I would prefer they drive a Tesla than a petrol car. But if they swap to another electric car, I’ll take it. I hope they advocate for better public transport links locally though.

Say it again for the people in the back

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Threadiverse is long form, basically Lemmy, Kbin, Frendica and Writely. Fediverse is them plus Mastodon and FireFish

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

No, no. That’s clearly not a small thing. Burn down whole buildings over that.

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Not every instance is good for every user or community. The Piracy communities have long been some of the biggest communities on here, however it’s absolutely within the rights of the world admins to decide they don’t want to support them? If you object, you don’t need to throw a fuss about it. Just move yourself or your communities to an instance that’s online with your viewpoints.

The fact that Ernest commented on this two months ago and then didn’t fix the issue is saddening. I understand that everyone is busy, but crediting people isn’t a big ask.

How do I search for an instance that blocks another instance?

I’m looking for an automatic way to search for an instance that blocks another instance. Instead of manually checking the blocked instances of multiple instances until I find the one that blocks the instance I don’t want to see, I’m wondering if there is a more efficient and automated method to identify such instances.

Lemmy.world banning piracy made me realize it's something a client can solve

If I was logged into several instances at once in the client and seeing the composite feed and then could choose instance when replying or posting (with some set default, like from: field in e-mail clients) lemmy.world could ban piracy all it wants and it’d still be in my feed without me having to leave it or change instances.

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Niche communities should be on niche instances and users should join smaller instances that federate with their interests.

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Eh! Why would you be on lots of accounts

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

It doesn’t, but it doesn’t mean organisation and thus increased discoverability are a bad thing

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

It basically means that Lemmy links are now recognised by Wikipedia

@glowie you’re a legend, with actual memes for every community, but this isn’t a meme.

sabreW4K3,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

First check the software version. If they’re at least fairly up to date, check the instances page. The blocks are in the bottom half.

sabreW4K3,

I remember I put a bunch of articles in the family room but you’re right, I presented that terribly

Nah, we’re over it, but we also like to laugh at ourselves just to ensure the community doesn’t die and also hopefully gets into tomorrow’s trending communities.

In the UK iMessage isn’t such a big thing. Here it’s about WhatsApp. After BBM died, everyone moved to WhatsApp and never looked back

😂 they’re all in cahoots about the prices these days, but I love the film 😭
