pycorax,

And it’s so good that Kotlin adopted them too in their journey to fix Java.

pycorax,

I haven’t had a chance to play it yet but I really like the sound of still having your weapon (even if it is naked) and armour even when you’re down. Feels like it would make respawning in the final rings a lot more viable.

pycorax,

Yea the gameplay is fun but I’m frankly not a fan of the whole sports theme. The announcers are pretty obnoxious to me.

pycorax,

Samsung has let you swap the back and menu keys for years.

pycorax,

Windows 10s death is going to force a lot of poorer folks to consider alternatives - and let’s be honest, it’s going to be Linux. The majority of hardware out there in the world can’t run 11, let alone a proposed 12.

For the more technically strong people, I can see that happening but I very much doubt the general public would do that. They probably don’t even know what Linux is.

pycorax,

The cost of switching over to Linux might be higher than simply getting newer hardware. Training people is pretty difficult lol

pycorax,

WP had a far superior 3rd party YouTube app than any other platform’s first party app at the time. The only reason why they didn’t have a first party was because Google was intentionally throwing road blocks to prevent it from happening.

pycorax,

They definitely did with Surface. They stumbled for a bit but the Pro 3 - 4 made 2-in-1 laptops actually good.

pycorax,

The Android TV app seems better too.

pycorax,

For NFC, no one really does that even on Android even though NFC is available for use. Instead, in some countries they use QR-code payments to bypass the NFC limitations that Apple imposed.

pycorax,

Man that’s pretty stupid. I’m guessing they don’t use Visa/Mastercard and instead use a proprietary protocol?

pycorax,

Disable them and hide them using a custom launcher. For what it’s worth, I like Samsung’s changes over stock Android (especially post-Material 3) to use a Pixel. It also helps that I’m using a Fold and Samsung has the best software features of any foldable.

pycorax,

Yea this would really explain the downgraded park our due to touchscreen controls limitations.

What are we all using for video chat in 2023? (kbin.social)

The last time I tried to make video chat work with people, we dived between jitsi, facebook messenger, zoom... until something worked well enough. what are people using here now? Jitsi? Google Meet? Whatsapp? Facebook Messenger? Zoom? Skype? Facetime, somehow? The builtin thing in matrix that used to be jitsi but I think they...

pycorax,

Teams for work and when I ever need to for personal calls which is really rare, Telegram.

pycorax,

I mean, you could run VKD3D on Windows too to get the improvements.

pycorax,

A lot of posts like these also seem to imply that the open source community should somehow be less competent than these companies and are surprised that the open source community can fix these issues. But the open source community has a ton of very respectable and extremely smart developers, it shouldn’t be any surprise really.

pycorax,

That’s more to do with application compatibility rather than providing applications.

pycorax,

I had a Flex 14 which had a broken keyboard. Sent it for repairs and it came back with the same issue happening a minute after I turned it on. Had a bunch of friends who got a Lenovo gaming laptop that were offered at a deal with our school (was a Y-something I can’t recall). All of them ended up with strange green bands on their screens within 2 years. The whole superfish fiasco basically cemented that they’re not a company I would buy anything from ever again.

I’m currently using a Asus Zephyrus G14 and it’s been practically a flawless experience.
