i really did not understand and this. this mag is for migrants and updates on the migration, a literal hub for migrants from reddit.

if a migrant has something to say about migration, about their own migration or what caused them to migrate, anything related to the reddit migration it belongs here. pushing them away like this and making them feel stupid for making a post when this is now supposed to be their safe haven away from reddit is NOT helping

Sacramento Sheriff is sharing license plate reader data with anti-abortion states, records show (www.sacbee.com)

In 2015, Democratic Elk Grove Assemblyman Jim Cooper voted for Senate Bill 34, which restricted law enforcement from sharing automated license plate reader (ALPR) data with out-of-state authorities. In 2023, now-Sacramento County Sheriff Cooper appears to be doing just that....

If we were in the right timeline we would have fixed our dependance to fossil energy a long ass time ago.

Instead we've got a bunch of people who still believe vaccines causes autism because the internet told them that.

When did we fail going forward? As humanity, I mean.

thesebits,

as a genXer we were promised and viewed all that could be done and was being done. then they voted in Reagan and was all stripped away. any glimpse of prosperity during the 90s was GenX optimism that was destroyed in 2000 when it was all stolen from everyone again. GenX doesn't do anything anymore because we were told to shut up as we grew up in the 80s and then had it stolen again in the 2000 election.

Looks like r/programming discovered the astroturfing, so in true Reddit fashion they simply shut down the subreddit entirely to avoid the spread of negative public sentiment. Thanks for galvanizing my resolve to migrate to the fediverse, Spez

The perfect site for reddit admins would be endless bots posting, commenting and viewing adds while said advertisers are oblivious to the con.

The first two have been going on at some level for years. The last? Well, it will be interesting to see the official reddit app's adoption numbers in the coming months.

How can I help a friend who is falling into "witchcraft"? (kbin.social)

I have this friend, N, that has recently started believing things very out of the ordinary. He said that he's been getting into paganism and studying runes and candles. I told him that was very interesting, it sounded like a fun time and a good hobby to have. N let me know that it wasn't just a hobby, but that it had a function...

It’s great you are looking out for your friend’s well-being, at the same time unless they are causing harm to themself or others I think it can come across as insensitive to try and tell them their spiritual beliefs are “wrong” even if they seem new or unusual. Would you stop a friend from praying even if they think that it’s a literal attempt to get a higher power to intervene on their behalf? Is casting a spell really that much different?

I believe in science, I also practice witchcraft. Do I think anything I’m gonna make is going to help me? I mean, yeah due to legit science. But I also know when to go to a real doctor. Do I think runes and tarot cards can tell me the future? Not necessarily but I view it as more of a, it’s already in my head it’s just helping me spell it out type of thing.

I have no idea your age but, a lot of people dabble in witchcraft in their teens and early 20s and never come back to it. If I did my math right I’ve been practicing for 16 years. I’ve never used it as an excuse to not get mental health help, I’ve never used it as an excuse to not go to a doctor, and I’ve never forced my beliefs on others (which is more than some people in some religions can say).

I’m not saying your friend won’t use religion as an excuse to not do normal things but, I think you should take some time to look at things from another perspective. It’s really not much different than those who believe in an all powerful sky daddy. Not only that but, witchcraft can be secular as well.

Are lots of websites really going downhill and/or closing or does it just seem like it to me? (kbin.social)

Like many people I'm here because of reddit going to shit. Twitter has increasingly been shit. gycat is shutting down in September. To me it seems like lots of bastions of social media are crumpling, but as a previous active reddit user, I've been personally effected. Is this just a frequency illusion or has something changed in...

Well I didn't know about Gfycat shutting down but I do now. :/ Damn, not even it is safe.

I think it's orchestrated. I think it's intentional. I think the internet is under attack in the capacity that we know it as. I know it makes me sound conspiratorial but ever since Musk overtook Twitter every big social CEO has praised is approach. Musk fucked the internet up as we know it and Rupert Murdock showed media moguls that they can push trash and make heaps of money. There's no incentive to run quality content online and Musk started the downturn of that realization. I think we're in for some troubling times.

What I look forward to the most is when different interest groups start federating their own instances, like startrek.website is doing already. It takes time for these communities to grow, but I'm sure that in time decentralization is going to do wonders for them. :)

BlondieBuff,

Funny how r/blind saw this coming from a mile away

I don’t think it’s planned at that level, it’s just people like Elon think they deserve and earned everything they have; and the alt-right preachers tell them that they have it because god deems you worthy. It becomes a big circlejerk and then hen you have the Elon’s drinking that flavor-aid.

But, and I mean this, before 2000 you could still get the information; you just had to put more effort into obtaining it. That was obviously a barrier too high for many, but it was not unfindable or inaccessible.
