@WoodenBleachers But his sources were Norse, primarily, so by extension the argument can be made that the characters should all have Scandinavian accents.

I loved every minute of the two episode premiere of Ahsoka last night but if you did not come into it having already had the following under your belt:
Star Wars Rebels
Both Thrawn Triologies, by Timothy Zahn
Ahsoka, by E. K. Johnston
Played a lot of adventure models from West End Games’ Star Wars Roleplaying game
You were likely totally lost and unattached to any of the characters. I'm not sure why this series was greenlit the way it was… but I'm happy to have it all the same.
@soypunk I only have Rebels, some Clone Wars, and Mandolorian to reference and I didn't feel lost.
That's a fair amount of lore, though.
I am curious as to what people that only know Asoka from the Mandolorian (and the Mando 2.5 season that was the tail end of Book of Boba Fett) think about it, though.
So I watched eps 1 and 2 of Ahsoka and it made me realize what a key role Favreau played on The Mandalorian. Filoni is so in love with the Star Wars lore that every shot is framed like it's Huge and Important, but the show just hasn't earned that yet, so it comes off slow and ponderous. Filoni really needs a co-creator next to him saying "this is boring, how can we make the audience care?" That was Favreau for The Mandalorian and his absence in Ahshoka is palpable. #StarWars#Ahsoka
@fraying What did the OT really have to say that would be more profound than what Rebels (and presumably the Asoka show) had/have to say? There's some elements of post-Vietnam criticism, but Rebels is pretty antifascist, and it seems like Asoka is going to be about at least in part war-profiteering and corruption.
What the OT has on all of Star Wars is precisely that it's the OT. The original. There was nothing to really compare it to when it came out, but I think overall, compared against all of the Star Wars media that it spawned, there are much more profound stories as well as some pretty simplistic ones.
I'm enjoying reading people gush over #Ahsoka and pointing out things I missed but I'm so irritated with people who want to gatekeep.
"People who like #Andor are going to hate this because there's Force stuff & lightsabres in it."
No, that's not how that works. We can like both. We aren't the ones who deemed Andor "not #StarWars " because of the lack of those elements. We just enjoyed seeing the rest of the world who don't have those talents.
@SailorDisco Yep. I love the gritty seriousness and intrigues of Andor, but I also love the optimistic idealism and Jedi mysticism of Rebels. Star Wars has an an almost limitless capacity for all kinds of worldbuilding and storytelling. Sometimes the stories are quality, sometimes not so much, but imo good is good and both shows are. It took me a re-watch to get a good feel of where Asoka is heading in terms of tone and style but so far I'm I'm enjoying it.
-I think the show is doing a great job with a tough ask of following up #StarWars “Rebels” plot points while telling its own story. The time skip did a lot here. For instance the primary conflict being between Sabine and Ahsoka when those two hardly interacted in “Rebels” grounds this new show in its own context.
-Hera is still Space Mom and Sabine is still God’s gift to coolness.
-the idea of mercenary ex-Jedi is SO compelling that it’s an instant hook for me.
@Anguirus I wonder what's up with Hera's kid. I hope we get to see him being all teenaged and force sensitive.
Actually it would've made more sense for him to be Asoka's padawan but Sabine is interesting and it does give us the sense of time having passed that they had and did a whole thing we don't know about. Anyway she did some Jedi training in order to be able to weild the Darksaber so it makes sense she'd want to continue.
@rm4 I know it's a joke but I do wonder what Thrawn and Ezra's dynamic is like now that they're in an entirely different galaxy. It could be pretty surprising.

There is no reason to consider one’s political party in local elections, if they are even a part of one, in local elections. I'd say the best places to reside in Michigan are going to be in the lower half of the Lower Penninsula if you want a temperate climate. Doesn't mean winter won't fuck your shit up at least two or three times a year.
Beautiful nature spots are a day trip or long weekend away and quite lovely, though smaller in scale than the sprawling, mountainous naturescapes of California. We don't have anything quite as epic as Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, or the Redwoods here (souece: Michigander lived 13 years in the Bay Area), but we do have some very lovely areas and they're imo much more accessible for the average Joe. Oh yeah and when fall comes in, the color is AMAZING. It's a rather flat state all in all, though. Most places you have to drive to see anything rolling lamdscape-wise. It makes winter with all of the leaves off of the trees rather bleak if you're in sputhern Michigan.
But, there's a lot of interesting lore that you don't really get anywhere else like Great Lakes shipping/shipwrecks, bootlegging hotspots, a fucking shit-ton of musical history, tons of breweries and local agricultural festivals. If you're willing to pick and choose your urban areas, you can definitely find those spaces that have a Californian vibe about them, but they're not really centralized.
I just fell in love with West Virginia a few weeks back. So beautiful and while not a blue state, exactly, the people there were so welcoming and kind.

It's more like if you find the Lower Decks characters in the crossover amusing, then you'd probably enjoy Lower Decks, but the episode isn't written in a way that you have to know that show to enjoy it.
@Greedy_Refugee I could not figure out Soundgarden. I would have drawn a more botanical garden looking thing if I was the artist. I was all "music plants? Note field? Field notes? Music plot?"
@thesebits Definitely. I remember as a kid in the 70s all of this innovation and research into getting us off of fossil fuels being taught to us and a real sense of optimism about the future and science. So much changed for the better or was moving in the right direction then fucking Reagan and the Bushes and greedy cronies like Gingrich come into power and ripped all of that away.
