mob,

I don’t know shit about this band/this type of music… is it actually the kind of music that only Nazis would listen to?

Like, if someone leaked a Pantera fan list, I guess I wouldn’t be on the wagon to ruin all their lives, even though Pantera is pretty well known for racism, shouting White Power and Nazi sautes n shit.

theguardian.com/…/pantera-shows-cancelled-after-f…

if you didn’t know about Pantera

mob,

Nazis are obviously bad, but this comment makes me think that anyone you don’t like/like their comments/replies, you consider a Nazi?

mob,

What a strange and leading question.

mob,

I’m confused by the whole comment line. Do I seem like I’m outraging, or have any strong opinions any way that needs to be clarified?

mob,

It’s an irrelevant question leading into a off topic point that you’d like to make. If you’d like to deliver a point, go ahead and comment it. Not my job to try and land your point for you though.

mob,

Even without defining those parameters, I also thought it was sort of strange to compare a political party vs country.

mob,

Oh yeah, at it’s root, it was already bad.

I’m always interested in a decent discussion or thought experiment though, even if I completely disagree with the other person. 99% are so lazy nowadays it’s not even interesting reading their copy/paste comments that have been recycled for the last decade

mob,

Oh yeah, I’m not trying to blame a fan base over the actions of a group/artist. I also don’t know what type of music the original post is about. Maybe they do make music thats like “we are Nazis and so are you if you sre listening” and then I’d probably be understanding of consequences of being fans.

But that Nazi salute is definitely not the only documented racism by Pantera members, and I’m sure you know that.

That doesn’t make their fans racist imo

mob,

I think that’s the point. It seems deep to 14 year olds, but it’s really just a shallow observation if you really think about it.

mob,

I don’t think you understand how the Internet actually works, which is perfectly fine. Just weird to act so confidently giving silly advice

mob,

100% know RATM is political…

But if “Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me” is an example of political prowess, a lot of shits going to fall into the political category.

OG Maco coming in with the political rap anthem “Fuck Em Fuck Em Fuck Em”

mob,

100% agree that Google is icky/morally corrupt.

But imo, having “don’t be evil” isn’t a great motto even if it was for the most moral company to ever exist. It’s just a really suspicious motto

X runs ‘timeline takeover’ ad promoting anti-trans film (techcrunch.com)

Thursday on X (Twitter), all users saw the same pinned topic under the “What’s happening?” sidebar. As part of a “timeline takeover” — which gives advertisers “priority access to logged-in users’ first impression of the day” — conservative media nonprofit PragerU is promoting the hashtag “#DETRANS” to...

mob,

Oh I hate this argument.

With an election year next year, politics is about to get shoe horned into everything with the “(insert subject) is politics” is justification.

I think most people think of technology as scientific based rather than social media trends and events.

mob,

Non American Internet users likely talk American politics just as much as Americans. Even if it is just to criticize Americans

Are there any active news communities similar to Lemmy/Reddit, but users can only vote and comment, not post articles?

Like, the site owners/employees/admins/mods are the only ones who choose what to post(and hopefully not extremely bias and a good spread of topics), but the users can still upvote/downvote the post as well as comment and all that?...

mob,

I guess kind of.

But the idea would still be an aggregation of different sources, but mainly curated by a select few, rather than the full population. Users would still influence post order and all that.

Ohwell, I didn’t think it’d exist, or be well known if it does, but was just posting to see if anyone here knew of anything.

mob,

You brought in trust, I didn’t.

I just don’t think purely population based curation is coming up with the best content selection. I wanted to see alternatives.

mob,

Oh shit, Digg is still around and basically what I was curious about

Sadly, looks like the news/tech topics are pretty dead user wise, but maybe I just need to explore it better to understand.

Appreciate it, curious if the post selection is better or worse than the popular forums.

mob,

I wanted to see alternatives to compare.

I guess you can consider branching out a distrust of what is known.

Would that mean you would trust mob mentality over the mentality of an individual as a rule then?

Tbh though, I’m not sure why you are being confrontational, I just was asking about alternatives for curiosity reasons. It’s nothing I’m really invested in, just wanted to explore.

mob,

Heard the name before, had no idea what it was. Guess that Fatboy Slim Slash Dot song brainwashed me into thinking it was the only Slash Dot that matters ha

Appreciate it

mob,

Actually I stumbled onto that one before I posted. I have a new goal in life to get to a level that Hacker News posts are just light reading for me.

For now, most of that is way above my pay grade but I loved the posts I understood ha

mob,

How do you think even/odd detectors work? A team of coders has been working on this else if for years…

mob,

At this point, I really can’t tell who’s joking around or who’s being serious in this thread.

Shits cracking me up though reading this all as serious discussion.

mob,

Would there be any way to have everyone keep the same voting power while the population tripled?

mob,

I understand it’s offensive, but how is comparing Winnie the Poo to Xi racist?

mob,

I’m not really to worried about Fediverse politics. Shits ultimately silly. Everyone will end up in their own weird radicalizing echo chambers soon enough, seems to happen in all social media.

I just didn’t understand how comparing the president of China to an American cartoon character with no racial connotations was racist.

mob,

Idk, my neighbor had a duck. It’d probably have put more effort into the ending than the show writers did

mob,

I can’t imagine AI controlled assault drones would help rich people at all. If that was a fear, wouldn’t the same fear be around since the invention of tanks or any military advancement?

Some private citizen starts using attack drones, I don’t think it will work out well in most countries. Even if the government didn’t intervene, which it would immediately

mob,

I guess profiting from them, yeah. Guess I was speaking in the OP context as a response to a guillotine

mob,

If you want a free platform to speak on, avoid social media all together?

I agree with the social media generally being bad for people, but I’m not sure your reply lines up ha

mob,

It’s impractical. Pandoras Box of social media has been opened. Killing a few big sites isn’t going to stop it

mob,

Georgia is a state in America

Georgia is a country in Europe/Asia

Splinter Cell is a game that uses the country of Georgia as a map/plot.

mob,

I dont think the Fediverse is a good example of not allowing certain activities.

mob,

It’s weird that this is a link to the exact same 25 day old post on the same community.

mob,

What’s a natural breed of dogs? And how do you measure intention?

mob,

Yeah, that’s strange. I’m not trying to pretend to be a weather expert, but a quick Google shows it’s been less than 110 a week ago.

Is the Pi4 on sale still around the 100$ mark?

I’d love another Pi at the original.prices

Where are all the Positive, Wholesome Communities gone, and where are all the hugs, where is my wholesome memes, to help me fight, the politics

Hey, I’ve been looking at what I’m subscribed to on Lemmy and it really grim, and not really what I want from a social media. I’m into tech, but the tech subs talk about evil things companies do, a lot of linux meme and programmer humor, and it’s all cool and all, piracy talking about how it’s bad what certain company...

mob,

I just want some reasonable and active communities. Those “wholesome” based communities often end up feeling really fake.

mob,

Its the small things on Windows 11 for me. Like the “more options” section on the right click… that must have been added just to annoy people. It’s where all the good options are.

Otherwise, seems to run fine.

mob,

You are getting a funny reaction but I get you.

Dude said legalize “no questions asked discrimination” and you referenced a very well known example of discrimination in recent history. Seemed like a logical response to me.

mob,

Thats goofy.

You’re telling me that if the conversation starts with cops, you agree with someone saying “they should be able to turn anyone away, no questions asked.”?

Dude didn’t say discriminating against cops is the same as discriminating against black people.

mob,

I could list favorite hype songs by DMX forever so I thought I’d just drop Slippin

Shit was to real

mob,

Wouldn’t that logic give the camera people and editors the copyrights in film?

mob,

If I comment, does it show up?
