I recommend using freetube: https://freetubeapp.io/
It’s a youtube desktop client, no tracking or ads and works perfectly on Linux.

I recommend disconnecting the HDD to prevent installing anything on it, then repair the boot / EFI / Grub issues, then reconnect the HDD. That way you know for certain all linux partitions are on the SSD.

If you’re not joking, I’d like to clarify that your friend’s computer not booting up after a CMOS battery failure, is not related to Manjaro, or any OS for that matter. But we don’t have enough info to correctly assume what the actual cause of the issue is, without troubleshooting.

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

Most likely a hardware issue. But we don’t have enough info. We don’t know it that user has successfully re-imaged that system or not.

Arch on my desktop because I customize it to how I like and don’t care if something breaks (rarely does). And linux mint on my laptop because I need a more reliable distro when taking my laptop to work.

Thanks for posting this one, I didn’t know about retext. I’m using Obsidian, but it’s overkill if used as only a markdown editor. Retext is way better.

This is truly the best way to Rickroll someone. We’ve reached new heights. I like it.

Why does the Steam Deck use Arch Linux?

Please understand that I haven’t tried or installed Arch Linux yet. From what I understand by reading and watching related videos, Arch is often breaks and a lot of time is required to fix issues. But I have also read comments from arch users who claim that arch has only crashed or caused them problems only a couple of times...

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

Valve devs said they like Arch because it allows them to update steam deck faster than other distros. Looks like they’re skilled enough to limit the downsides of an unstable distro in order to get the latest and greatest package versions.

vifm because it’s extremely fast, you can copy or move files between the dual panes, or switch to single pane mode. The bulk rename option works better in vifm compared to ranger. I also really like lf because it’s a ranger clone written in go, but it has some bugs when opening PDFs or videos.

Suggestions for lightweight browsers for Ubuntu?

I have an old laptop which didn’t exactly have top of the line specs when I bought it back in 2016. It does, however, run Ubuntu pretty competently (yes I know there are better distros, no I am not going to use them). It was cheap. As in it came with a Celeron in 2016 cheap, so it isn’t the speediest little guy....

For basic browsing that doesn’t require any extensions, I use vimb and qutebrowser.

Can you unpin Edge from the taskbar? That should get rid of the arrow. Or maybe the next windows update would bring it back.

Thinkpad.

You’re right, it’s absurd. They should be ashamed.

Is this a ratatouille joke?

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

That works too.

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

Rats can make pizza… I only watched that movie once when it came out

ninite of ubuntu and any other distro is just sudo apt install package package package package …. replace package manager accordingly.

super easy, barely an invonvenience. - ryan george.

marswarrior,

No serious user really chooses Ubuntu if they want a minimal install. Best options for that would be, arch, debian, alpine, or something like lubuntu.

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t like snaps either but I hate dealing with PPAs even more. I moved away from ubuntu years ago.

Cool idea. Here you go rentry.co/44y3dr/raw , now we just need to put it in neofetch. or this rentry.co/z42ns/raw

I created a test banner in ascii just to see how it would look…

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

Looks good, I’ll fit it into the banner

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

Done, how does it look?

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

And shell needs to be zsh.

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

Please edit the banner, and I’ll upload it.

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

Looks good but the train will be blocked by the logo.

marswarrior,
@marswarrior@lemmy.world avatar

I changed the banner, how does it look?

Very cool! Is it possible to have imagemagick fill out the png after calculating the result?

Something like convert -background white -fill black -font Arial -pointsize 24 -size 300x caption:@output.txt output.png

If we remove the background with -background transparent -fill black

Then merge the output with the result with convert background.png overlay.png -composite output.png it might work

Use Tailscale vpn if you want access from outside your home network. It’s super easy to set up, all you do is install Tailscale on the server and client, and login.

I only use twitter to share gameplays and screenshots from my PS4 :) I don’t care what elon decides to do.

gallery-dl can download videos from reddit and twitter. maybe you can implement that in your bot.

Fedora because most devs provide an rpm file to conveniently install, and fedora is very stable even though the package versions are newer than ubuntu, which is also another reason I like fedora.
But I don’t use Gnome anymore because I moved to tiling WMs on Arch.
