We also have intersections with dedicated pedestrian green light. All cars stop and pedestrians can cross any direction. Allowing cars to enter a busy intersection when pedestriana are in it is insane, especially if the driver has to look one way for vehicles and the opposite way for people.

The Palestinians have been using violence for over half a century and achieved nothing. Regardless of the morality of armed struggle and the desire for revenge, it is in fact counter productive. Apartheid in South Africa didn’t end because of military action, it ended because the ANC was able to mobilise world opinion against the white regime. It ended because of sanctions and isolation and making the nation a pariah. If the Palestinians had chosen that course of action early on I think we’d be in a much better place today. All these attacks do is harden world opinion against them.
Cue the outrage. Meanwhile no-one questions why people feel compelled to sell their own organs in order to survive. This is just a logical and expected outcome of a system where some give their own blood so that others can live better.

The problem is that this solves nothing. Since COVID the US has been writing checks it cannot cash and the party will come to an end sooner or later. The longer we kick the can down the road the more painful it will be. Republicans won’t increase taxes (even Biden didn’t roll back Trump’s tax cuts). And Democrats won’t cut entitlement spending. So we are essentially screwed.

Many other countries have liberal immigration policies and haven’t experienced these problems. Something seems to have gone uniquely wrong in Sweden. Gang membership in Sweden is comprised overwhelmingly of people from a handful of countries: Syria, Serbia, Bosnia, Albania and Iraq. Most immigrants to Sweden come from India for example, and don’t seem to cause problems. Nor do those from Poland or the UK.

Not only Mandela. All the top cadre of the ANC and SA Communist party in those days were great. Govan Mbeki (Thabos’ father). Walter Sisulu. Chris Hani (murdered by the apartheid regime). Steve Biko (hopefully everyone knows who Steve Biko was). Joe Slovo (his wife, Ruth First, was also murdered by the regime). These were all good, honest and decent people, not to mention brave and courageous. It’s a tragedy and a disgrace to see how the next generation of leaders has trashed the legacy of these amazing people.
