Thank you to Dipity Literary Magazine for publishing my poem "Rolling Pin" in issue 4 Antique Roadship. https://www.dipitylitmag.com/

@poets

Rolling Pin by Janis La Couvée I was six when Jack Cross a logger at Kennedy Lake Camp looking to alleviate his winter boredom fashioned a rolling pin out of cherry wood gifted it to me what was a six year old to do with a rolling pin yet here it is, over sixty years later countless pies, tourtières, biscuits and cookies shaped with love recalcitrant pastry coaxed into tins hoping for a flaky crust juices abundant sealed in without overflowing edges golden brown sugar cookies decorated lavishly by small hands lofty biscuits with a tender crumb the scent of tradition tracing back through mother, grandmother and favourite aunt my kitchen treasure
Behind the Antique Backstory for Rolling Pin circa 1960 Rolling pin fashioned by a West Coast logger in his spare time. He lived at Kennedy Lake Camp (near Ucluelet) and in the evenings, worked on various woodworking projects to keep him busy. My father worked with him, and one day he gifted me this rolling pin, along with a meat tenderizer and a salad spoon. Although the meat tenderizer and salad spoon are long gone, I still use the rolling pin on a regular basis-it’s been my constant kitchen companion for over 60 years. - Janis La Couvée
Background is an image of frothy waves breaking against a rugged shore in Ucluelet, BC. The sky is clear blue. Superimposed on the image are the words Meet Janis La Couvée - ABOUT. Janis La Couvée (she/her) is a writer and poet with a love of wild green spaces, dedicated to conservation efforts in Campbell River, Canada—home since time immemorial to the Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ people. @AuthorHelp @authorindiespeak @writingcommunity this is interesting, because in my experience, "review bombing" has been used by authors to co-ordinate a wave of positive reviews in the first week of publication on a platform, so they can claim that they are a "best-selling" author. That and very targeted endorsements.

@plants @nature I would have had my for 26 done yesterday, but the laptop needed another reset, and haven't yet been able to re-install PhotoscapeX! Photos were already edited and I was able to use the old version Photoscape this morning to put them together, less fancy borders, but that's okay! details in replies

@cohanf @plants @nature thanks for the recommendation for Photoscape X - I needed an easy photo editing app.

@cohanf @plants @nature I'll be experimenting.

Time to get to know one another,

Introduce yourself in the replies, your research, collaborations you're looking for or would be open to, and what you enjoy about the non-professional side of scientists on social media! @academicchatter

@ml @academicchatter oh my goodness! Is there a sciencechatter group too? I am a citizen scientist currently involved in forage fish surveys on the east coast of Vancouver Island close to the 50th parallel. Also a conservationist with a keen interest in ecological restoration, particularly of riparian areas.

Opt-in search of the Fediverse was just rolled out. Here it is:

http://tootfinder.ch/

Search has traditionally been very controversial on the Fediverse, but let's see how opt-in works.

Right now, this is a proof-of-concept and very bare bones -- but we'll see if it's embraced by everyone.

See screenshot.

@atomicpoet @fediversenews I for one welcome search. And, the steps were easy. I'm already searchable. Search, lists, hashtags - these have always been my go to tools to find what I am looking for - also to connect with people world-wide.

I was fortunate, early in my online broadcasting life as a poet and writer, to learn that my tweets and posts and tiny ramblings, were considered as "published" by most journals. It's one of the reasons I only share published (by journals) work here. Thought this tip might help other poets and writers. @poets @writers
