Ok. I am tired of Infosec.exchange being sluggish. I just submitted a crazy order with Hetzner to upgrade the instance. Hopefully the last time for a while. I ordered a dell AMD Genoa 48 core server with 256 GB of ram to act as a database and redis server, a dell 64 core sapphire rapids server with 256gb of ram to act as the single front end/puma/streaming server, and an amd 7950 with 128gb of ram to run minio (insourcing from Backblaze).
I ordered all with 10g network interfaces to be connected to the same switch.
I continue to see issues with Backblaze performance causing issues with posting.
This will consolidate the environment down from about 13 servers to 4 (I will keep using less expensive servers on 1G networks for Sidekiq if it can’t run on the sapphire rapids server.
I will be putting that behind Fastly for global distribution and ddos mitigation. I don’t know whether I’ll keep serving media via bunny.net or try to do that with Fastly also. Bunny works pretty well and is cost effective for media delivery.
@jerry I'm not sure what "sluggish" means to you, because I certainly haven't noticed any problems – infosec.exchange is by far the most responsive website I use.
…and I still need to find a proofreader for my toots. It’s damn amazing how I can look at a sentence and think it’s fine and 2 minutes after I post it, I clearly see all the misspellings and extra words.
Is anyone using the Mastodon app on Android having trouble logging into infosec.exchange or other mastodon instances, with the error that it "seems not to be a Mastodon server"?
I don't have android and it appears to be working fine on iOS
Something to note for people using Mastodon 4.2.0-xxx - the advanced/multi-column layout now has a different URL. If you use a shortcut to get to a mastodon instance and have the advanced web interface enabled, you will land on a non-advanced, single column layout. Update your shortcuts to include "deck", such as:
infosec.exchange/public/local becomes infosec.exchange/deck/public/local
@jerry Some people apparently also believe that "high quality hailstones" are made in underground factories in Spain (and then distributed over the Europe).
People - the mugshot many people are sharing it fake. The one on this news post appears to be legitimate from the Fulton County jail https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna101664
Hey friends! I’m looking to sign up for Mastodon and would love to hear what drew you to the server you are on? Also, what are servers with good reputation?
@Kill_joy I'm just waiting for my data export to come through (it's been over a week since I requested it), then I'll submit a GDPR deletion request – any other way of deleting only hides the data from the web, but it remains in their databases.

@Awesomejt@TechConnectify@Rentlar@SilentStorms A few years ago there was a thread on Twitter that basically came down to: either you have a Bosch dishwasher, or you need to study how to properly fill it if you want clean dishes.

What Mastodon server are you on?
