What is your favorite ssh client for Windows?

qesuto,

@jerry putty, but find myself using the built-in ssh more and more these days.

@jerry KiTTY

crdotson,

@jerry another vote for OpenSSH in Windows Terminal. The built in is fairly new but you can install a newer OpenSSH if you want any newer features like FIDO2.

@jerry PuTTY is nice, if basic. I also like Termius as it also has an Android client, but the issue there is that they want you to pay a subscription if you want to use it for serial connections, but it's convenient that it color codes things like the words error, warning, and IP addresses

@jerry The native OS-bundled OpenSSH client run from Windows Terminal, and key management in the OpenSSH Agent windows service. The text rendering is just too good.

@jerry I just type “ssh” into my Windows Terminal?

PowerShell: WHAT IS MY PURPOSE?

Me: You launch “ssh” and “wsl”

PowerShell: OH MY GOD

@urda 😂 reminds me of internet explorer back in the day.

What is my purpose?

GetFirefox.com

Oh my god

@jerry have been on Mac now six years, so May be out of date, my general connection back then was mosh

@jerry I've been using securecrt for decades now, have dozens of saved sessions. If I had it to do over I'd probably just use the vscode terminal.

@jerry build in ssh. And I stumbled upon Remote Desktop Manager in a work context, which is slow but very customizable and I somehow got used to it in Windows. Don’t know too much about it to give a recommendation.

@jerry windows terminal (from the Microsoft store) + the built in openssh client CLI binary that ships with windows

@jerry Used MobaXterm in the past and really liked that it had X and you could do simultaneous commands to multiple terminals.

Also used a cygwin terminal but don't do that very frequently.

Lately I've just gone back to Putty because it's simple and I can install it easily on a locked down work laptop. I've found that Putty with the combination of tmux fits my workflow really nicely.

@jerry PuTTY. I even use pterm on Linux.

@jerry something quick, power shell in Terminal. Otherwise, I'm trying to be better about utilizing WSL for SSH (still in Terminal) as I'm doing more linux-y things for our IT systems internally and it helps if I can better get my chops up by working in that area more and more.

jahanson,
@jahanson@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry https://termius.com/free-ssh-client-for-windows but if not that then ssh, it’s available on windows win-get or WSL SSH. I absolutely abhor PuTTY 🚫

JPatONeil,

@jerry ssh under git-bash/cygwin (at least when wsl2 is not there)

The_Asshat,
@The_Asshat@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry the built in openSSH client!

Wesche,
@Wesche@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Windows Terminal

kensims,
@kensims@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry I rarely need to use an ssh client anymore, but when I do, I use PuTTY.

AMS,
@AMS@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry openssh in wsl2.. except when something around wsl crashes and vmmem pegs the CPU until I reboot.

jjbaumgartner,
@jjbaumgartner@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Built-in OpenSSH w/ Windows Terminal.

Second place for me is RoyalTS, since I use it for everything else.

Sempf,
@Sempf@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Terminal.
