What are your thoughts about Obsidian not being Open Source?

Hi, I love Obsidian. It’s part of my daily routine since a year or so, and I use it to store all my work and personal notes for the future. The main reason I use it is because of its note storage method. Instead of relying on a database, it utilizes plain text files written in Markdown, as most of you already know....

elonspez,

Just don’t use their paid sync. Treat it as VsCode but solely for markdown files.

How are we going to pay for all this?

I’m really enjoying lemmy. I think we’ve got some growing pains in UI/UX and we’re missing some key features (like community migration and actual redundancy). But how are we going to collectively pay for this? I saw an (unverified) post that Reddit received 400M dollars from ads last year. Lemmy isn’t going to be free....

elonspez,

I don’t get it. Why would you call that more efficient? In your example a profit driven company will grow at a higher rate than a FOSS project right ? So in what way is it more efficient?

elonspez,

Repair it for how much? Why not buy a newer but not so new OnePlus instead? e.g. OnePlus 9

I had a 6T, used it for almost 4 years, and then it became laggy with bad battery life, so I recently upgraded to a 9

elonspez,

umm it’s literally the most popular distro
