Can someone catch me up on the de-federation thing that's apparently happening?

avuko,
@avuko@infosec.exchange avatar

@dangillmor @paul I’m looking through the list and I’m seeing some more vulnerable communities moving away from Threads.

History tells us that those communities usually know what’s bad for us all, way before us who are less vulnerable become aware of a threat.

I also see what they are doing as setting boundaries to protect themselves, not setting rules for others*.

I am personally troubled where the boundary (I don’t want Threads to interact with me) also extends to servers that didn’t defederate (I don’t want you to interact with Threads).

For me, the boundary then becomes a rule, or perhaps even a purity test. And no matter my feelings, even then it is still not up to me.

*) If the difference between rules and boundaries is unfamiliar, that could be a sign you are not commonly in a vulnerable position.

Autistic Burnout is an ADDITIONAL disability on top of being

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic I refuse to accept the disability label.

An F1 race car 🏎️ is very sensitive , requires a lot of specialised care and works best on specific tracks, but nobody calls them “disabled tractors” 🚜.

It is okay to disagree. And I don’t think we disagree. ;)

Good morning comrades!

How long does it typically take you to "boot-up" in the morning?

avuko,

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic

None. I literally roll out of bed and go.

i do need caffeine for “orchestration” (the capability to focus and re-focus/context-switch). I’ve been self-medicating (drinking coffee) for that since I was about 12.

The UK is trialling a solution to the long wait and difficulty obtaining and assessments.

Rather than increase capacity they are implementing a multi-stage screening system which will make it far more onerous for those already overwhelmed and suffering.

With multi-year waits to proceed from one stage to the next, and one stage rejecting nearly nine out of ten applicants the system limits access for people who would benefit enormously if diagnosed.

Where greed here can be read as: “applying neoliberal for-profit fantasy models which promise cost reduction but actually increase profits of involved businesses” to anything for-people.

Same Shit, Different Country (I’m Dutch, our sorta reigning party is equally awful)

Autistic people often have an interesting relationship with spare items. It's just how it goes with alot of us. Some of us gain a strong sense of security and inner peace from knowing we won’t run out of things we love any time soon, but
of course some of us also find spares pressurising and like to have only one of everything.

I’m seeing this opt-in I haven’t seen before, with a lot of files, earliest (quick scan) dating back to 2023-09-19, so that likely aligns with my iOS 17 update.

Wow!😳 Texas teacher fired after assigning an illustrated Anne Frank book

Censoring one of the most important works documenting the Holocaust and punishing the teacher who dared teach it is pretty much in line with what fascists do. Horrific antisemitism.

Does anybody else feel like your simply being "chucked under the bus" or "left to get on with it" because your an adult and not a child anymore with autism?!

I do feel like It does.

I understand this might well create abit of a backlash, but it's not necessarily something I have seen talked about on here.

Please feel free to discuss.

@alexisbushnell @AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic For many NT, but also ND (that would include past me), the D represents Disease or at best Disabled; not Diverse.

Is “internalised ableism” already a thing?

I wonder if this is a sensitivity thing or if it's just me having bad skin:

When I get hot and start to sweat or take a shower that is a bit too warm, my skin gets super itchy. It's like a rash covers my hole body some times, or a bunch of little needles everywhere, though no visual reaction occurs. Annoying at best and distressing at worst!

Just realized that this may be one of the reasons I avoid exerting myself physically!

avuko,
@avuko@infosec.exchange avatar

@neversosimple @actuallyautistic same, although I’ve started to ignore it (as far as my skin allows).

Could be one of those as of yet under-investigated comorbidities?

I’m tracking another comorbidity (ASD/ADHD & Generalised Joint Hypermobility) out of personal interest: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8861852/

avuko,
@avuko@infosec.exchange avatar

@ScottSoCal @neversosimple @actuallyautistic for me it’s the same. I also know people who do have some kind of hypermobility, but for them it causes pain and/or their compensating mechanisms actually make them less flexible. Because nothing is ever simple.🤷🏻‍♂️

@joshsusser @actuallyautistic I think this has—besides all the other privileges (or lack thereof) that impact mental health—also something to do with where you live.

In my country it’s fine (for me and most people I know), but I wouldn’t want to be caught with even just a sprained ankle in the US, never mind dealing with ND.

“But you are so empathic.”

All the people who have said that to me I know to be kind, caring and themselves very empathic. And it still hurts.

We still have a long way to go peeps.
