antlion, to asklemmy in What's something you're oddly obsessed about? (SFW)

The problem is when you pay somebody to do the work. Nobody spends as much time as you. Building these days is a slap-it-together endeavor. They will get the job done in half the time you would, but it’s not quite as good as you would have done.

antlion, to asklemmy in Is there such a thing as "fart mints", like a breath mint for your farts?
@antlion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

High dietary fiber like beer, veggies, or beans creates large amounts of gas, but meat is what makes it smell bad. In my opinion pork is the worst, beef is not great, and chicken is still bad but the least offensive. Eggs can be sulphuric. If you want to deodorize your farts try being vegetarian for 2 or 3 days.

Nine Inch Nails album With Teeth. Every Day is Exactly the Same, Only, and Right Where it Belongs.

Password should be Fhqwhgads. Come on Fhqwhgads, I said come on Fhqwhgads. Everybody to the limit, everybody to the limit, everybody come on Fhqwhgads!

I also skip steps going down. Essential life skill.

antlion, to technology in Solar is now ‘cheapest electricity in history’, confirms IEA (International Energy Agency) (from 2020)
@antlion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Solar power is really cheap. If we only needed it for low wattage DC, like lights and electronics, it could be built fairly cheap even with storage. But most home energy use is high wattage AC. That gets expensive pretty quickly, unless you do your own electrical work.

antlion, to frugal in What are some frugal (but not penny-wise/pound-foolish) things you've picked up re: cars?
@antlion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Never drive in a hurry. Seriously what’s the rush? Don’t ever crash and you’ll save a ton of money.

I think it’s all the forensic crime TV shows. The layperson now has a pretty clear understanding of how to not get caught.

If you haven’t updated the TVs software you can probably root it (rootmy.tv). The Homebrew store has ad-free YouTube.

antlion, to asklemmy in Lighthearted, upbeat shows for adults?
@antlion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

For parents and kids, not childless adults.

antlion, to piracy in If BT over Tor is bad for privacy, why VPN is not?
@antlion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Tor routes through relays, which could be run by digital rights holders or government entities. Presumably they could trace with some effort. VPN is an encrypted connection to some trusted party who is accepting your money. Some VPN providers have policies about keeping no logs of your network traffic. Presumably the VPN provider needs good lawyers to know they can safely discard and ignore all the copyright notices. If the VPN provider did keep logs, and if they were legally compromised in some way, the VPN would no longer be protective.

Emby is the premium version of Jellyfin. I have found the meta information works a lot better. I haven’t done much transcoding but it does support it, and there are more apps to access it. Not too happy with the iOS app but the LG WebOS app works great.

antlion, to piracy in What VPN do you use and why?
@antlion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

ISP can’t track bittorrent content without downloading the same torrent as you. They only see domain names of trackers and ip addresses of peers. The content itself is either obfuscated or encrypted.

Except that’s like dividing by zero. A millibit is undefined. A bit is the smallest indivisible unit of digital information.

But capitalization is important to distinguish between b for bit and B for Byte.
