Patients turned away by 'closed' sign at B.C. hospital's emergency room (bc.ctvnews.ca)

The sign had been taken down by Tuesday morning. The B.C. government and Interior Health are adamant that the hospital’s emergency department was not closed, but Williams Lake Mayor Surinderpal Rather told CTV News he knows of multiple people who were turned away, and he is upset.

This has come up a lot for me when talking to Americans about murder via gun. They (in these instances) have asked me things like “so someone breaks into your house and takes your TV, you just let them?” And they seem apoplectic when I say “yes, and I phone the cops.”

There’s a cultural inclination towards shooting people for crime, regardless of severity.

CD Projekt recommends starting a new game when Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 drops: 'starting fresh will enhance your overall gameplay experience' (www.pcgamer.com)

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a mammoth-sized update, titled Update 2.0, tomorrow, September 21, and it promises to be a bit of a game changer. A police revamp, a progression overhaul, a new cybernetics system, vehicular combat, DLSS 3.5—it's vast, and thankfully separate from the Phantom Liberty expansion due next week, so you'll...

[>“Violent attacks are what happens when men do not have partners, Mr Peterson says, and society needs to work to make sure those men are married. ‘The cure for that is monogamy. That’s actually why monogamy emerges,’ [he says.] Enforced monogamy is, to him, simply a rational solution. Otherwise, women will only go for the most high-status men, he explains, and that couldn’t make either gender happy in the end.

“‘Half the men fail,’ he says, meaning they don’t procreate. ‘And no one cares about the men who fail.’

In Canada, where I live, that would be a crime.

In fact I have had three break-ins, and I managed to not kill anyone each time.

I’m just curious, but how exactly do Canada’s non-progressive parties ‘have’ the plot? I feel like you could just say ‘Canada’s parties’ because I think we can agree the Cons sure as hell don’t either.

Canada’s wettest province faces historic drought — and a precarious new future (thenarwhal.ca)

I’d asked how his six-hectare Okanagan farm was faring amidst what’s shaping up to be the worst drought in B.C.’s history, expecting an answer that had something to do with water shortage. But Tumbach told me the drought wasn’t hitting his crop so directly; like most farms in the Okanagan, his irrigation water comes from...

Sadly, and not surprisingly:

Lorimer Shenher, a retired VPD detective, said he was skeptical that police were continuing to actively investigate the circumstances around Poorman’s disappearance.

Citing an ongoing investigation is “a convenient catch-all tool they use to hide lack of action on a file,” Shenher said, “citing either investigative necessity or the potential of jeopardizing something they have going on.”

Shenher said if the Poorman family has not heard any updates from VPD recently, “you’re safe to assume this is a tactic to avoid scrutiny of the file and their failings.” [Tyee]
