Socsa,

Reddit: intentionally curating the internet’s biggest high school to onlyfans content pipeline.

FTFY. I am genuinely shocked they haven’t been called out for this yet.

Socsa,

Watching someone play video games is straight up younger sibling energy. I don’t get it at all, but I was the older brother.

Socsa,

This is exactly it. Insecure CHUDS hate that female sexuality has power over them so they seek to assert cultural control over it. It’s the same reason repressed assholes all over the world want to tell women what to wear and how to act.

Socsa,

We go to very different pools I guess.

Socsa,

Reddit allows people as young as 13 to sign up. It is also one of the biggest sites for OF marketing on the Internet, and the site itself is probably at least 20-30% porn depending on how you measure it. This isn’t even some hypothetical thing, you can go see people with 5 year old reddit accounts making posts like “now that I’m 18 I can finally show you my butthole.”

To be clear here my crusade is not against porn on Reddit, it’s against children on Reddit, and not because I care about guarding their virtue or anything, but originally because I thought reddit was better before it got infested with teenagers, and now because I want to see the site burn, so this seems like a good string to pull.

Socsa,

These assholes sure spend a lot of time thinking about trans people.

Socsa,

Their ranking algorithm very clearly leans on a relative engagement metric pretty heavily, and has for a while.

Socsa,

I suspect it’s more about the difficulty of generalizing a bug-free experience. Nintendo likely has internal tools which do this in a relatively reasonable and user friendly way, with the major caveat that it relies on a QA stage for production viability. The complexity is just too high to not have that safety net, so turning users loose on it would just make the experience too unstable to be viable.

Socsa,

It really isn’t that hard to be considerate. Just make an effort to not stomp around. Walk on the balls of your feet. It’s actually good for you.

Socsa,

ITT: people who spend no time thinking about how their actions might impact others.

Socsa,

Try that in a big town

Socsa,

The real caption should be “Am I the only one who makes memes about my tough guy delusions?”

Maybe OP found the one truly ignorant but considerate person in the world who has done this. Everyone else knows it’s a waste of time.

Socsa,

The only time I’ve seen actual violence on public transit was in Germany, fwiw

Socsa,

Because those places have actual free media which report these kinds of issues.

Socsa, (edited )

Small town crazy is more like the sheriff knows you beat the shit out of your wife and kids but ignores it as long as nobody ends up in the hospital.

If rural crime was reported accurately, it would be very clear where the most dangerous places per capita are.

Socsa,

The twitch boob meta always fascinated me. It’s literally trivial to not watch thirst streams if you don’t like thirst streams. But people on the internet get so fucking upset about it, and I assume at least 100% of them consume actual porn.

Socsa, (edited )

Yeah I guess I don’t really give a shit what other people’s kids do

Socsa, (edited )

I am not responsible for ridding the world of maladjusted assholes. I simply do not have the energy.

If there is no other imperative for caring about something beyond “but what about the poorly supervised children?” then that thing is generally going straight to the bottom of my concern list. If the worst thing that poorly supervised children get into is cleavage on twitch, then I’d actually call that a pretty massive win.

Socsa,

Without any additional parentheses, the division sign is assumed to separate numerators and denominators within a complete expression, in which case you would reduce each separately. It’s very, very marginally ambiguous at best.

Socsa,

The correct term is obviously “beer”

Socsa, (edited )

You can bring a surprisingly large number of network segments down just by plugging both ends of the same cable into a dumb switch. It probably won’t happen immediately, but eventually you will get a broadcast storm which will propagate until it hits an element smart enough to snuff it out.

Socsa,

The PS3 at least tried to do something novel in terms of hardware. At launch, the PS5 was just a mid tier gaming PC with a walled garden.

Socsa,

It’s actually still quite amazing that this model works with literal fucking space travel.

Socsa,

The problem is that you’ll fall off the technical curve eventually. It’s almost inevitable. Even if you read and study every day and keep up with every bit of technical meta, your brain will slowly turn to goo and you’ll find it hard to stay ahead of younger engineers purely on technical competence alone. At a certain point you need to develop some form of leadership skills so you can turn your experience into a multiplier.

Socsa,

Do Call of Duty devs really not understand they are considered a joke?

Socsa,

I have an MBA from a prestigious school, and an MS from a state school and this meme is 100% true.

Socsa,

Just let people enjoy things

Socsa,

That shit is like $50/lb so just keep grating and I’ll take it in a to go box.

Socsa,

All information is empirical, but all decisions are not. Life clearly requires approximation, and this is such a simple idea which a ton of really smart people fail to grasp.

Socsa,

Eventually the cheese would begin to form a singularity and the grater would exist on the boundary, slowing their own perception of time with each subsequent grate.

Socsa,

I mean, my dog thinks garbage and shit are the greatest smells possible and he’s the most trustworthy person I know, so I have to assume it all circles back on itself somehow.

Socsa,

You’d be better off keeping the mortgage, since it’s about the cheapest leverage your average person has access to, and investing the lump sum. Net present value, baby.

Socsa,

God would have to exist to give any shits at all

Socsa,

The COMINT analyst in Colorado triangulating the location of the IRGC drone operation facility:

Socsa,

Or maybe we can feed the homeless obsidian?

Socsa,

Honestly I kind of wanted them to keep more of the humorous tone. I know a lot of people hated it and thought it was distracting, but I thought it was a pretty unique take on the genre. I wish they’d toned it down without going full space opera.

Socsa,

I would walk around in the summertime saying “how about this heat!”

Socsa,

Yeah but you’d walk through the occasional locker room too. You know, when it makes sense for like, justice and stuff.

Socsa,

Yeah everyone in this thread spouting social control theory forgets that humans have millions of years of evolution for social living, and the scale of moral ambiguity definitely scales with that to some degree. Most people would likely stop short of things which would seriously harm their community, and the knock-on effects of fairly small amounts of deviance would likely become apparent enough to keep most people from anything more than victimless crimes and simple mischief.

It’s really no different than the time travel paradox in a way. You assassinate a tyrant, and see the horrific civil war it causes and then try to intervene to correct that mistake and it all spirals out of control until it’s legitimately way worse than before. Most people would take that lesson and build a much more limited moral code around their powers, if they didn’t do that from day one.

Socsa,

I just did this experiment with a lighter held next to the seat gap, which is a simple but sensitive test of boundary air displacement, and there was zero movement. This is complete nonsense.

Socsa,

Wait till you see my dick

Socsa,

Yup, with 50B parameters or whatever it is these days there is a lot of room for encoding latent linguistic space where it starts to just look like attention-based compression. Which is itself an incredibly fascinating premise. Universal Approximation Theorem, via dynamic, contextual manifold quantization. Absolutely bonkers, but it also feels so obvious.

In a way it makes perfect sense. Human cognition is clearly doing more than just storing and recalling information. “Memory” is imperfect, as if it is sampling some latent space, and then reconstructing some approximate perception. LLMs genuinely seem to be doing something similar.

Socsa,

In a simulation where the only radar reflector is one simulated jet, and there is no real hardware, it’s pretty easy to hit since the Pfa is effectively zero. In the real world, there’s a thousand different things which will give some similar energy return and there’s no simple way to filter that out without actually seeing the thing in real life.

Stealth isn’t about zeroing the energy, it’s about pushing it into an ambiguous state space where it cannot be distinguished from birds and shit.

Socsa,

Most state of the art SAMs are technically hypersonic.

Socsa,

You’d be surprised the velocity you get from the return on a bird’s flapping wing. Also the Doppler ambiguity smears with SNR, so you’ll see a bird as something moving between 30 and 300mph at the edge of sensitivity.

Socsa,

You joke but there are legit a bunch of YouTube “engineers” who got their degrees from Kerbal Space Program and Polybridge as far as I can tell.

Look, if you took some classes in 1995 and then never practiced in that area and now make YouTube videos for a living, you are not an engineer. You are a hobbyist.

Socsa,

If you have an actual engineering degree then you’ve done basic forms of these calculations by hand at some point, and have likely written a basic numerical solver in Matlab.

Socsa,

I’m curious how you propose we achieve a perfect political system without building on a series of imperfect ones?
