Roku looks to be seriously tightening its pursestrings. The company’s laying off a full ten percent of its workforce, over 300 employees, in addition to a conducting a number of other cost-cutting measures, as reported by Variety. These job cuts are just the beginning, as Roku’s also removing streaming content, consolidating...
You hear this a lot when personal wealth is discussed, “But his wealth isn’t real, it is in the business!” This shows that the wealth is real.
It amuses me when a company will go on about how they need to let people go and cut costs but then they piss away millions on a handful of people. The real issue is that they need to cut costs to keep pissing away money on a few people.
Like those slimy venture capital groups that take over declining businesses and instead of getting them back on their feet take out tons of loans against them, pocket the cash, then sell off the parts that still work and throw the rest (and the employees) away?
Almost everything based in technology spies on everyone now a days and most people are alright with it. I don’t understand why people are okay knowing this spying exists. Remember there is a difference between spying and monitoring based on consent. If I ask the police to put up security cameras on my street due to crime that is monitoring, if someone hides a camera in a tree and aims it at my house that is spying.
It isn’t so much a matter of secrecy as a lack of oversight. If they have a shitty contract awarding system it isn’t secret just that no one is watching it.
People are choosing to sit in apple’s garden though. They like the seamlessness of their products even if they are being gouged paying for them. Apple enforces their walls with things like, for instance, not letting android phones communicate using their messaging app so kids using android phones are the odd man out in their groups and are pressured to switch to iphones.
Standards are great as long as development isn’t blocked at the same time. Backwards compatibility becomes an anchor that drags behind you after a while. Industries will generally agree on a standard (like shipping containers) when they realize that a lack of one is holding their industry back as a whole and they know that everyone will use it (no cheating!).
The consumed star is no longer a gravitationally bound object, it is torn apart by tidal forces. She says the disk is supposedly unstable and half should disperse within hours and the rest within a month or so, so this delay is odd.
There is no way to return across the event horizon. You’d have to go faster than light and all timelines lead to the singularity inside the EH.
There is no such massive reservoir of unstable isotopes in stars and even if there was it wouldn’t all decay in a single event.
They became the equivalent to automated customer service lines. Nothing but bots with no humans available to address concerns. Any attempt to contact a mod generally resulted in an arrogant reply.
Social media seems to be laughing its ass off about this tragedy, is it because the folks at burning man are perceived as frivolous hippies or something? I use textpad for helping with coding and note keeping. No goddamn text formatting, just plain ascii with windows or unix line endings. Quick and easy macros, etc.
You have to laugh … I remember Glastonbury, up to my knees in mud - it’s all part of the fun. Having said that, it’s unlikely turn into a survival situation in a field in Somerset, so not really that comparable …
I’ve gone back and forth on taking a multivitamin since I know my diet isn’t all that great. Ideally I should be working to improve that diet but let’s say due to certain circumstances that’s a bit difficult at the moment....
I look at them the way Voltaire looked at going to church. To paraphrase (going from memory here), “If heaven exists then by going to church every Sunday I’ve saved my soul, if it doesn’t then I’ve only lost a few hours every Sunday.” Multivitamins are cheap enough that I can take them on a “just in case” condition.
Yup, sounds like she was trying to scare the girl. She was mad at the kids and wacking them before this. Jackass didn’t even check to see if there was a round in the chamber not that they should be aiming guns at people and pulling the trigger.
I wonder if there were powder burns and a muzzle imprint on the kid, that would show if the gun was pressed against her. I wouldn’t trust anything they say at this point anyway.
I remember reading about a geologist who was standing on what he thought was solidified lava until he realized he had slowly moved and the bottoms of his boots were melting.

For example, with a can of diet soft drink containing 200 or 300 mg of aspartame, an adult weighing 70kg would need to consume more than 9–14 cans per day to exceed the acceptable daily intake, assuming no other intake from other food sources.
You’d be running to the bathroom every 5 minutes too
You assume that they are all overcharging wildly and that all maintenance is trivial. Mortgages are an actual thing, go buy some property and find out. People rent out property to make a profit, not out of love. Also, living in a home or apt you pay for isn’t a “privilege” anymore than the food I buy is.
unbelievably derivative and completely incompetent
You had me thinking you wanted to make an intelligent point until you broke out the shitpost. You got me!
Facebook is a hot pile of garbage that should be fired into the sun.
