Twitter accused of helping Saudi Arabia commit human rights abuses
“Lawsuit says network discloses user data at request of Saudi authorities at much higher rate than for US, UK and Canada”
“Lawsuit says network discloses user data at request of Saudi authorities at much higher rate than for US, UK and Canada”
regalia, Free speech absolutist, but only when it’s straight up harmful.
aidan, Its about Twitter during 2014 and 2015, long before Elon
dilan, X plans to collect biometric information, job, education history for safety, security, and identification purposes.
Elon did not get any lesson from the Saudi man’s death at all. Its so important for people to remain anonymous in the digital world.
Try this: wiremin.org
pureness, I’ve been using Mastodon for over a year with no trouble and digging it. The best part is no ads or algorithm bs
s1vgm, Since when did Twitter become a platform for sending death sentences? Isn’t there a better alternative?
dilan, This is why personal privacy & nyms are important. We need to leave those platforms that collect our identity info, there is no privacy at all!
Twitter is not the right place for free speech, It’s so hilarious that Elon says, 'Twitter is for free speech!
aidan, This is about Twitter during 2014 and 2015, long before Elon
x4740N, Why am I not suprised
FUCK MUSK AND FUCK SPEZ
dilan, AND ZUCK
aidan, This is about Twitter during 2014 and 2015, long before Elon
SocialMediaRefugee, I remember during the Arab Spring when everyone was saying how great twitter was and how it was fueling the revolts
Sybs, Which is exactly why Musk and the Saudis bought it. To make sure that wouldn’t happen again.
OsrsNeedsF2P, It centers on the events surrounding the infiltration of the California company by three Saudi agents, two of whom were posing as Twitter employees in 2014 and 2015, which ultimately led to the arrest of al-Sadhan’s brother, Abdulrahman, and the exposure of the identity of thousands of anonymous Twitter users, some of whom were later reportedly detained and tortured as part of the government’s crackdown on dissent.
The cost of non-private social media
woshang, Just for you guys to know, a Saudi teacher got death sentence over tweets, reported form last week.
ours, And Kashoggi got baited and chopped to bits by the Saudis over financing opposing voices on Twitter.
SocialMediaRefugee, It looks like he posted under his own name and was arrested last year. Guess they are getting nervous about their rule there.
Vaggumon, Muskrat has to pay back them loans somehow.
aidan, This is about Twitter during 2014 and 2015, long before Elon
Vaggumon, I stand by what I said.
CookieJarObserver, Typical Musk Monday
aidan, This is about Twitter during 2014 and 2015, long before Elon
CookieJarObserver, No difference
aidan, Not exactly something you can blame him for though.
CookieJarObserver, Nah but fuck him still.
drdabbles, That took much less time than I expected.
theyoyomaster, Yeah, only 9 years to get caught and brought public.
aidan, This is about Twitter during 2014 and 2015, long before Elon
drdabbles, Yes, from when the “spies” were found working there. The accusation that Twitter had knowledge of what they were doing wasn’t originally part of the case. The suit was only filed just over a year ago, and now Twitter has officially been added.
ameliawilliams, I stopped using Twitter when Musk took over. I kept my account for a while but recently I logged in, saw a bunch of alt-right transphobia and racism, and then deleted my account.
Vaggumon, I deleted mine the day he took over.
herrwoland, Fuck Twitter for doing that, but how about we also keep Saudis responsible for the crimes they’re committing? just saying
RegularGoose, They’re a sovereign nation. What are we gonna do, launch a military invasion? And it’s not like sanctions are a realistic solution, either; the west is far more dependent on Saudi oil than the Saudis are on western money. The world is chock full of other customers that will be more than happy to step up.
Yes, pretty much everything the Saudis do is abhorrent, but unless you’re suggesting that the answer to their crimes is to commit even worse crimes against them, you’re just flailing around spouting off impotent virtue signals.
Just like in any other country, the only legitimate way to solve the problem of govenment corruption and oppression is for the people of that country to force a regime change.
heterophobe, white people love telling people in 3rd world countries living under oppressive governments to “just start a revolution”
RegularGoose, Would you rather go back to white people invading third world countries? That’s the alternative. I sure don’t want that, you’re a shitty person if you do.
Fades, OH so it’s totally cool for America to resume playing world police? literally cannot fucking win lmao
how naive can you get?
Vega, I don’t understand the downvotes. I do not concur with the end for a lot of reasons, but this is a legitimate answer to the comment before
SocialMediaRefugee, (edited ) They could point at our death penalty also
rostby, Dog piling retards read you follow the heard cunts
Snapz, Elon buying Twitter in the first place (with plans to openly destroy it) was helping them commit rights abuses in the first place - Twitter was a critical communications/organization tool during the Arab Spring, musk’s job was in part to make sure that it wasn’t sustainable for that purpose in the future, and it now isn’t.
This has been the main thing all along.
deft, I think the same but for many political happenings.
pinkdrunkenelephants, But now they have the fediverse which is arguably a lot better than some corporate proprietary crap that censors anything revolutionary
demonsword, But now they have the fediverse which is arguably a lot better than some corporate proprietary crap that censors anything revolutionary
but it has a very limited audience, and that probably won’t change any time soon
pinkdrunkenelephants, True. I imagine in a few years there will at least be a few million spread across the whole fediverse.
wahming, This is pre-xitter
Palerider, So, would that be pronounced “Shitter”?
Seems apt.
