Yup. It definitely feels like over time the human element of the Internet has been replaced by a corporate one. The most blatant example I can think of is youtube. Nowadays it’s so obvious rigged in the favour of already established media and a select few content creators.
I fail to see the nuance in situations like residential schools. Could you perhaps educate me so I can come to a more informed conclusion than sending thousands of indigenous Canadians to schools designed to stripped them of their culture is a bad thing to do.
Eh. There’s more to it than like you need a degree to become a doctor, lawyer, psychologist etc. It’s just that you need to have a well layer out plan and a good understanding of what your strengths and weakness are. Unfortunately, in the US there’s a massive emphasis on getting into college right after high school where people barely know what they want nor have any real world experience. In Ireland there’s a scheme there’s a thing called a mature student where its basically encouraging people 23 or older to go into college. Like courses will have spots reserved for them and the like.
Low functioning autism is an antiquated term. But, for years those on the lower end of the autism spectrum were more often diagnosed than those on the higher end of functionality because their manifestation of ASD was more apparent. Within the last 20 years those on the higher functioning end of the spectrum have started outnumbering those on the lower end. Also, due to better rehabilitation resources for people with ASD some initially on the lower end of functioning were able to be reassessed as on the higher functioning end.
A lot of people who were erroneously accessed as having an intellectual disability on the ASD spectrum was because they were non verbal. Once speech and language therapy was able to help some of these kids speak. Once they were able to communicate it was apparent that they weren’t actually slow. When I was 2 my parents were told I would be able to write or spell my own name. Here I am more than 20 years later studying psychology in college.

Here’s one, my former boss. I was on a course and as part of it, I was required to do an internship. It ended up lasting six months without me being paid so I told the manager that I need to change because I am starting my sociology course and I need to get paid. She said she’ll get back to me and never did. I wanted to get paid weekend work so I could go to college and make money. I never heard back from her and instead a bunch of new people were actively picked over me to work on weekends and get paid.
From reading this story I get the vibe that miss Audrey had very little going on in her life apart from this maths club. Its ironic that because of her inability to rein in her passion for maths she likely turned you and many others off the subject.
