For those that have poked around other fediverse stuff beyond Lemmy, and been around the spaces awhile, what’s stuck out to you as stumbling blocks, or basic user experience fumbles? Which parts do you think may be technical, and which may be cultural?
You can’t just tell someone to register for any server, and they will be able to see everything. So they then have to choose a server, which takes effort, and can cause analysis paralysis.
I believe this is genuine support of the bill from Apple. Between Right to Repair winning in Massachusetts and the EU demanding compliance, I think Apple decided to flip the script. They would want to continue the illusion of customer friendly tech.
For some reason there seems to be minimal overlap between the two communities and that blows my mind.
There seems to be completely different cultures IMO

Full text search is normal on lemmy, but, again, controversial on mastodon.
A significant proportion of lemmy users seem to dislike defederation, or at least view it as a last resort, while it seems to happen at the drop of a hat on mastodon.
At least that’s the impression I’ve got from my limited attempts to use mastodon.
Instead Apple and hardware manufacturers in general should prevent their products from allowing any software company from invading the people’s privacy in such intense ways.
lol, every intel processor has a backdoor called the intel management engine, it’s literally a second processor running minix.
Someone who claims to be a socialist, but who has a pathological obsession with identity politics and dividing the working class, and gives little regard to class consciousness or worker solidarity. Usually has an extreme hatred of patriotism despite patriotic socialism being the official ideology of the Soviet Union. Often defends lumpen behaviour to a bizarre extent.

This is a very old printer, from the early days of reprap. From a practical standpoint you would get better results from the cheapest new ender i3, and it would be a lot easier.
If you want an interesting project though it should be entirely possible to get it working, and you’ll learn a lot from it. If it’s still using the original Sanguinololu controller board that will be your biggest issue, as I doubt a modern version of the marlin firmware will fit in a ATmega644P. Your best bet would be to replace the controller board with something modern, then you can use it as any modern 3d printer.
To add, if it’s using the Melzi board that some used, then you should be able to load g-code onto it using the micro SD card slot. It will depend on the firmware if it can recognise modern gcode though. You may be able to compile a modern version of marlin for it too.
