Views don’t update in real time but likes do. Always happens with big videos like this. It’s something to do with YouTube reconciling the view counts across multiple servers, which gets very difficult with large numbers. It’s a bit easier for them to create a stable like count when each user can only like it once, so they’re essentially adding that user to a list and then counting the length of the list.

I have Firefox as my main browser on Android, but I still use the Google app for certain searches/news/weather, but it opens the articles in chrome. Anyone know a good alternative to the Google app that uses Firefox?

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Oh nice. Thanks. I looked in the settings before but must’ve missed that one. Much better now opening articles without being assaulted with ads.

If you had to buy an expensive headset to use chatGPT she wouldn’t either.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I’m just saying the accessibility of AI doesn’t necessarily mean it has more utility. Just that it’s more accessible.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That’s fair I guess. I don’t have a VR headset or talk to AI so imo they’re both pretty nerdy. I only talk to chatGPT every now and then to see if it can help me with code problems, and it almost always fails spectacularly unless I’m doing something really basic.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah I should probably use gpt4. Just don’t want to pay for another subscription haha.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Are we sure Tesla hasn’t done this too? Sounds like something they’d do.

Being fooled by Twitter users is worse as they can link to reputable sources (that usually wouldn’t post clickbait/bad headings). There’s also little incentive for twitter users to not post misleading headlines, while (some) journalists/news sites are trying to build a reputation of reputability. Yes, it would be solved by clicking the article, but you shouldn’t have to click every article to make sure the poster isn’t lying about the content.

The drag and drop thing is because it’s an app file. “Installation” is just putting the file in your application folder, or wherever you want it. Apps are (usually) just files, unlike on windows, so you don’t need to go through a complicated installation process, just put them where you want them (usually the applications folder).

The window snapping thing is annoying (but it’s not apple’s fault, Microsoft has a patent on it lol). There’s a bunch of free apps that add window snapping though 🤷‍♀️

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I’ve had the exact opposite experience. Have never had an app freeze my Mac but my windows computer freezes up at least once a week. Using both for work so similar loads but I guess it’s possible some of my work software is dodgy on the windows. Still probably shouldn’t lock up like that so frequently.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I guess it’s just really hard to make an operating system. My work Mac also isn’t completely devoid of its own issues. Sometimes moving the mouse can be a bit laggy which is frustrating because I also have a personal Mac that’s not laggy, so again probably the work software.

Absolutely agree it’s ridiculous that modern hardware still sometimes chugs when it’s thousands of times more powerful than what we had back in the day.

Ok Corduroy Jackson Jackson

That is not the obvious interpretation, and the headline (and description added by OP) are deliberately written to imply something that’s not true.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That’s not the headline or the description written by the OP lol

Damn bro you got them good. Great contribution to the discussion. Thanks.

I think part of the problem is that they’re hosting so much more content than Netflix. It really is crazy that it’s free to upload to YouTube to just store all your videos on there. Probably 99.9% of YouTube content does not get enough views to justify the cost of storing it.

All that being said, YouTube premium comes with a bunch of shit nobody wants so surely they could cut that stuff to lower the price (or tiered pricing for people who want it).

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Arch is more bare bones by default. Mainstream distros like Ubuntu come with way more stuff out of the box.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Feels exactly the same to me (if not slightly faster due to adblocking). You might just be mistaking familiarity with Chrome for it being tangibly better.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Hm yeah weird. I tried chrome just to test and the scrolling is definitely slightly different but I don’t think it’s smoother. Just kinda tweaked differently I guess. Haven’t tried bromite tho.

Is it me, or the hive mind mentality has come over here as well?

I’ve posted some controversial stuff, and I understand why I would be getting down voted for that. But I see some of my posts and comments are in the negatives for seemingly no reason at all? I don’t really care about the karma because I can’t see it anyway, but I’m worried that comments and posts here are gonna get...

China is extremely capitalist tho?

Idk why he couldn’t have just created a new @ equivalent for his X accounts or whatever he’s doing. A $ sign would work, or a +, -, *, !, anything really. If he’s trying to make these be the “official” accounts then they don’t need to use the same @ symbol.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I think the real problem is that Twitter’s account URLs are like twitter.com/username. They haven’t given themselves any wiggle room to mess with stuff like this. This is why most other sites have URLs like twitter.com/user/username, so then they can mess around with various other pages that don’t eat into their available usernames (another interesting quirk of this is that there cannot be a user on twitter with the username “home”, because twitter.com/home is the home feed). If they want to change it now it’ll break every linked account across the internet.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Good point actually.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Why tho

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Fair enough I guess. The difference seems very minimal from what I’ve seen.

ChromeOS is splitting the browser from the OS, getting more Linux-y (arstechnica.com)

It looks like Google’s long-running project to split up ChromeOS and its Chrome browser will be shipping out to the masses soon. Kevin Tofel’s About Chromebooks has spotted flags that turn on the feature by default for ChromeOS 116 and up. 116 is currently in beta and should be live in the stable channel sometime this month....

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I can’t see how this would give google any more data than they already get from ChromeOS?

To me, a life in prison is far more terrifying than death. Especially if it was solitary confinement or something.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You’re taking the argument at it’s most basic level, assuming that we would kill the billionaires and then sit around twiddling out thumbs. I don’t think it’s much of a leap to assume we’d change how the system works as well lol.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

They’re not going to give up their control willingly, hence the killing them part.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It wouldn’t create new billionaires if you’re also changing the system lol that was my point.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Do you think billionaires actually have billions sitting in banks holy shit. They own assets bruh. That’s what we’d be taking.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You can’t see the difference between “butts” and the n word?

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The argument isn’t about racial slurs.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The cartoon isn’t about free speech absolutism. It’s just about offensive stuff. All the things you said are hate speech.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It’s from a website called TheDevilsPanties bro. I get where you’re coming from but it’s clearly about book bannings/conservatives getting upset with content in movies/books/signs/etc. The comic doesn’t explicitly say it’s excluding hate speech but it shouldn’t have to.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Hate speech and offensive speech are very different lol

Cars are awesome.

Driving is the most comfortable, convenient, and fun mode of transportation. Walking and biking can be OK but only for traveling relatively short distances in good weather. Mass transit is inherently unpleasant. No matter how nice you try to make it (and most mass transit systems aren’t nice) the fact of the matter is that...

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

This is a very popular opinion lol.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Not guilty means there’s some doubt, no matter how small. The jury could be 99% sure he did it and (by the book) he should be found not guilty. It’s almost impossible to prove something like this, so stuff like this frequently gets not guilty verdicts regardless of whether they actually did it or not.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Literally not how the justice system works lol. You have to prove them guilty beyond reasonable doubt (surely you’ve heard this phrase before), which means 100% proof. If you commit a crime and there is ANY doubt, you will get a not guilty verdict. You say it yourself in this reply, that he could be innocent. Nobody is arguing that. He could also be guilty and we may never know for sure.

R00bot,
@R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Largely no, old.lemmy.world is on the lemmy.world instance, which is the biggest difference right now.

Their operating system setups, like in the picture above, Linux is extremely customisable so you can make some really aesthetically pleasing operating system setups if you’re willing to put some time and effort in.
