See, now I know you either just didn't read it or didn't understand. It applies to all religious symbols, not just a hijab. Can you argue it's unfair to non western religions like the above commenters? Yes and probably should. But what you said is wrong. They are not "banning something so petty like the hijab".

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

@cron I'm sorry but I read that bug report you linked. Is that really your most annoying issue?!?! Lmfao everyone is such a fucking pussy now a days.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Ahhhhh.....well I definetly find this unpopular so I'll vote you up. Picked the right sub lol.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Think this problem stems from it being only medical in most places. I have a script in Florida but it's in no way a medical need like it is for your anxiety. So you have this large mix of people just looking to get high legally and also those there for legit pain/anxiety medication.

We need to separate these and give doctors more power to do what's right.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I would have been severely reprimanded or even fired for calling the police on an error like this. All banks have an AML and KYC reporting guidelines and internal controls. None of them involve the branch employee calling police for document misspellings. It's not the standard action and should never have occured.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Well thats' ridiculous. In what world are those the only two options? Number one, two forms of ID are standard banking practices. Obviously if you don't feel comfortable accepting one you are taught to ask for another.

You are also given free discresion to deny processing transactions (so long as you submitted some kind of AML/ security report) to our compliance department. You dont discuss these with clients, you are taught to make up an excuse or be vague and deny the processing. Common practice for bad checks. These cases are always handled by a dedicated AML/ compliance office of the institution.

Unless you are actively being robbed branch employees are not suppose to be calling the police. This is standard across all large banks.

SOURCE: 15 years across a variety of banks in branch/trust/ and estate compliance.

Use critical thinking. No you don't cycle down a list. You say "hey I think your passport might have an extra letter r in it, you have another credit card, medical card, etc. I can take a look at?"

If anyone with a brain really thinks it's a forged passport they would skip straight to the whole "denying the transaction" part and reporting it through the banks reporting system.

This whole thread is a mind fuck of really dumb opinions. The cops just should not have been called.

What are some FOSS programs that you think are a far better user experience than their counterparts? (sh.itjust.works)

I used Plex for my home media for almost a year, then it stopped playing nice for reasons I gave up on diagnosing. While looking at alternatives, I found Jellyfin which is much more responsive, IMO, and the UI is much nicer as well....

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Agreed. This is my largest and really only gripe after switching from Plex. I moved my server over from Mint to Arch and rescanning my hundreds of shows and movies for the Metadata took over an hour. It still missed plenty of shows too. Had to manually update those and each time it took like 5 minutes per season.

The jellyfin UI has been 1000% more responsive and the CSS customization is clean, but damn is the scanning slow. Still not going to back to plex though the input delay was disgusting for me.

The old ones in glass bottles.... talk about god's nectar. On a hot day as kid nothing beat it.

What you linked said Atlantic/Shortness are protected. Pictures days it's a Lake Sturgeon (rock) so seems like it might have been okay to take the pic.

Windows 11 would CONSTANTLY turn off my headphones microphone at a hardware level. Running the "recording audio" troubleshooter was the only way to fix. Probably the only thing that windows troubleshooter fixed for me in 25 years.

Linux Mint worked out the box never going back. Feel bad for people who need Adobe.

What are some RPGs for someone who doesnt like most RPGs

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into RPGs lately and wanted to share my thoughts and seek recommendations from fellow gamers. I’ve found myself resonating with Scott the Woz’s viewpoint on random encounters and grinding, but I do make an exception when the combat system is truly exceptional, like in the case of...

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

@wtry

Do people not like Octopath Travler (1 & 2)??? I rarely see it mentioned but it's one of my absolute favorites. Fantastic pixel art and music. I love the combat and job system too. Being able to bridge level deficits with items/gear and strategy meant it wasn't grindy either.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

@skankhunt42
Not what you asked but I'm a huge Jellyfin fan. I used Plex for a while but it struggled with Anime and higher bitrates. The interface responsiveness is GARBAGE compared to Jellyfin on my Nvdia shield pro too.

As someone not in the industry this is fascinating!

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I'm sitting here salivating on my desk at work. This sounds absolutly amazing.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I started with Cyberghost because they were cheap and had no issues. ProtonVPN my go to now though.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Kbin doesn't have an API yet so the apps in development for it are scraping thier own. Artemis is looking incredibly promising and the dev is great.

I've been using a firefox shortcut for Kbin and it's been working great though in the meantime (mobile).

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I use a zFold 4. Very well could be device. Haven't had any freezing or comment errors. My only issue has been the infinite scroll resetting after a post/comment so you are back at top.

Did you ever have a classmate that pretended to be a vampire or some other supernatural creature? How much did they commit to it? (kbin.social)

I had a couple classmates that pretended to be vampires back in elementary and middle school. They’d pretend their Koolaid was blood, complain about the sunlight, and bite their friends a lot. Not enough to draw blood, though. I haven’t kept up with most of them, but one guy is a teacher now. He seems pretty normal.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I had a teacher with Vertigo so she had a couch in her room. Naturally, I would sleep on it of we had nothing to do.

He literally put in those fake plastic vampire teeth and bit me while I slept.....yeah.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Exactly this. There is now actual conversarion and I'm finding interesting content again.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I'm having a different experience with the content but can understand where you are coming from. I spent a lot of time searching out the niche communities I'm interested in and subscribing across all the instances i can find. Trying to actually post more too and encourage others.

The conversation aspect is so true though. It's been the most present surprise and is part of what's driving me to engage and start posting.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Based on your description and games played I'd say "Furi" and "Transistor". Second is made by Supergiant Games and all thier stuff is fantastic. I loved thier stories and the gameplay was unique in each.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Dev's like you make this place work for some of us more technologically incapable people (me) so just want to say, thanks for the hard work!

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Jesus.....why would he even bother adjusting the business model if part of the agreement was he makes zero money??....Am I missing understanding something? Seems like a waste of time on developers part...

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I guess I thought the whole issue was even if the app was not commercial, in order for users to actually make it work they need to use reddit API and that's unsustainable since it cost money regardless. Maybe that's where my misunderstanding stems from. I'm not the most tech savvy with all this API stuff.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Thank you! Finally getting a complete understanding. Appreciate the info!

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

Agreed. Damn sure I won't be one of them lol. Never going back.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

The web shortcut has been working excellent for me as well (firefox here). Be using that for time being. Monitoring Artemis for kbin though. Alpha looking VERY polished.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

I'm a fan of frogs myself as you can see.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

There was a tampermonkey script developed to collapse comments. Not perfect but definetly recommend.

MerylasFalguard, to kbinMeta
@MerylasFalguard@kbin.social avatar

Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you add an avatar/profile pic in kbin? I haven't been able to find a spot to add one, but it looks like there clearly is a way to since so many people have them. I've searched all through the settings and just... can't find the spot to do it.

Oshka,
@Oshka@kbin.social avatar

@MerylasFalguard

If you click your username, hit the settings button, then the profile button across the top, there should be a spot a little ways down to upload an Avatar and Cover photo.
