The DDoS attacks are totally their fault, as are the constant CSAM attacks, because those are the kinds of people they keep around. The only websites I’ve ever seen sustain multiple DDoS attacks are those run by admins who passively protect child abusers and nazis because they’re the kinds of thin-skinned crackers who will go nuclear on even the slightest of perceived inconvenience, or sometimes for no reason at all.
The communism isn’t the reason why hexbear sucks. Lemmygrad is way more communist than hexbear and their posts are fire.
The main issue with hexbear is that it’s full of white male ex-nazi converts who never recovered fully from their toxic past, mixed in with people who think listening to a podcast makes you a socialist. Their moderators are also douches who everyone is afraid of dealing with so even though there are a lot of very cool and reasonable people there, the stage is instead set by that small minority of uber toxic power users. You wouldn’t believe how many DMs I got from people thanking me for standing up for basic standards of decency because everyone else was too afraid to speak up for themselves, and ultimately it ended with one of the admins unceremoniously kicking me off of the site.
In short, it’s not the communism, I want you to analyze why you think that’s the reason and be prepared for an answer you won’t like.
Remote access of other communities is a smoldering mess. You have to hope the community you want to subscribe to shows up in All or you have to know its name and use the search feature. There’s no way to see another instance’s communities, unless you have an account there, which is a huge problem because you have to go through the huge hassle of signing up for an instance just so you can find the community, and oh yeah, most instances aren’t even open to invitation so it’s not even possible in a lot of cases.
Also if you get banned from a community it force-unsubscribes you, and if you get banned from an instance it won’t even tell you.

Where I live they have semi-privatized utilities and it’s funny because unlike the fully private company they’ll actually do their job, but then they’ll make record profits and their directors will spend it all doing lines of coke. It’s most noticeable when you compare the lines of the private company to the semi-private one, and one will be overgrown and decrepit while the other will be completely spotless.
We also have a fully public utility and you wouldn’t even notice because the prices are dirt cheap and the infrastructure is taken care of. The only difference between public and private ownership is how much of your money goes into maintenance instead of up the board’s nose.

The USSR was amazing to live under, especially when you compare it to what it has become after the fact. Read the place as an anti-advertisement for [nazi subreddit redacted] and it makes more sense what they’re doing.
There’s a narrative going around that the subreddit is under attack by white supremacists, but honestly that’s just what Canada is like. If you know how to see their style of polite racism you’d know that they’re 300x more vile than your average American, they just hide it a lot better.

Canada is just America but with “polite” added before every descriptor. In fact, that makes it even worse because polite bigots don’t face any repercussions for their bigotry so can fester and become way more vile than the openly bigoted Americans who would lose friends over it.
It’s been my experience that for every 1 genuine mistake there’s like 20 people who just don’t do it around you. I take a noninterventionist and moral neutrality stance when interfacing with people, and you wouldn’t believe how many people think that means they have carte blanche to drop all kinds of slurs around me in private when they think nobody else is listening because they think my lack of pushback is because I agree with what they’re saying, not that I vehemently disagree but would rather they be open about their vile views than just mask them up.
Listening then pointing out contradictions in their reasoning goes a lot more to actually tackle the racism than telling them to shut up does.
I tried them out for the business, eventually barely decided not to go for it because it couldn’t do anything I couldn’t do myself, but I have to admit it’s one of the few rare instances out of everything that I tried that I would actually spend money on. It’s not revolutionary or game-changing compared to other tools (such as stable diffusion) it’s just a really competent auto-photoshop.
