Olhonestjim,

Fuck that. 4 day weekends.

Olhonestjim,

Hasn’t it been like 30 seconds since we checked that fig tree?

Olhonestjim,

Clickspring makes some of the most beautiful, soothing, detail obsessed machining videos imaginable. Dude builds complex gear works from scratch, including a replica of the Antikythera mechanism which is still in progress after many years, though nearly finished now.

Olhonestjim,

You fucking spent it already?!

Olhonestjim,

Well now I feel better about them always suggesting ugly grannies to me.

Olhonestjim,

The writing and direction (the actors were fine!) Of the Kelvin trilogy kinda ruined Trek for me. I refused to give any of the new series a chance. But Lower Decks is reviving my interest. Think I might give Strange New World’s a look soon.

I know what you mean though. It’s been so long since we had a good series.

Olhonestjim, (edited )

I want to build various types of orbital and planetary megastructures like Isaac Arthur describes. Ixion has been the closest fix for me, but I want much larger structures than just a Stanford Torus. No idea how Ixion ends yet. But I’d like to see a lot more interior space available, vastly more green spaces, and experimentation with other styles of governance than capitalism. I want to walk and fly around whatever I build, preferably in VR. And while I wouldn’t object to the option, I don’t really care about fighting in this setting. I just want to build out a Dyson Sphere.

Olhonestjim,

To get more specific, I think it would be fun to build out a single O’Neill Cylinder within a Dyson Swarm. For multiplayer, just give everybody their own cylinder. But I definitely don’t just want an overhead view. I want to build a little world that can fully explore in first person. And no damn microtransactions! The only exception I’d accept would be paying for other people’s models.

Olhonestjim,

Steam Deck. Now I have a Framework running PopOS too.

Olhonestjim,

It was never about the city.

Olhonestjim,

It’s not there for you to save the house. It’s a tool for you to save yourself by preventing it getting larger, or by clearing a temporary path.

Olhonestjim,

The homeopaths are gonna hate this one.

Olhonestjim,

Yeah but killing a human in self defense is never murder.

Regardless, that clump of cells isn’t human, because it doesn’t have a brain, and that’s all that a human is. If it gets to the point where a brain is developing, it still remains a matter of self defense. Pregnancy is a life threatening condition, and no person has the right to use another person’s body without their consent.

Olhonestjim,

Nope, that’s exactly what abortion is, birth control. That is exactly what it was established as decades ago, and exactly what that partisan Supreme Court overturned against the will of the people.

Abortion is nothing less than birth control.

Olhonestjim,

Abortion is self defense, never murder.

Olhonestjim,

No person has the right to use another person’s body without their consent. Abortion is always self defense.

Olhonestjim,

Can you think of reasons to kill another human that is not murder?

Olhonestjim,

The consent of the woman to allow the use of her body is the only thing that matters.

Olhonestjim,

Is a person with memory issues entirely dependant for survival upon the use of another person’s body without their consent? If yes, then that person gets to decide to withdraw all care at any time.

Olhonestjim,

It’s been you this whole time, and arguing quite poorly.

Olhonestjim,

Nope, after birth it is no longer dependant on the direct use of another person’s body in order to live.

Olhonestjim,

Self defense is never murder.

Olhonestjim,

The difference is a woman’s consent to allow the use of her body by another person.

Olhonestjim,

Well too bad, because when their religion gets big enough, they get to force it on you!

Olhonestjim,

The woman has every right to deny consent to any person using her body.

Just because she lets a guy have sex with her, doesn’t mean somebody else has the right to show up too.

Olhonestjim,

Pregnancy is always a life threatening condition. Ending it is always self defense.

Olhonestjim,

Pregnancy is always a life threatening condition. A woman’s consent to the use of her body supercedes anyone else’s claim to life dependent upon her consent.

Olhonestjim, (edited )

No, a person with memory issues is not dependent on any single person’s body for survival. They are dependent upon any person who offers to put in the work, and that person can quit the job at any time without penalty. Someone else will replace them quite easily.

We don’t put slaves in charge of the care for the mentally handicapped. A woman who wants to be a mother does so voluntarily. But if you force a woman to keep a baby when she doesn’t want to, you are forcing her to labor. You are making her a slave. And lethal force to escape slavery is always self defense.

That’s why the example you gave is bad and irrelevant

Olhonestjim, (edited )

And there it is, the moral panic. These scandalous whores are out there fulfilling a basic human need. They must be punished with a life sentence of hard labor.

Obviously women are aware that pregnancy can result from sex. How stupid do you think women are? Just the fact that a baby showed up has not the slightest bearing on whether it has any right to use her body without her continuing consent.

Sex is a basic human need, and consent may be withdrawn at any time. Just because she said yes earlier doesn’t mean she can’t change her mind at any time.

Olhonestjim,

Completely irrelevant. Their very existence, location, and demand for resources makes them a threat. Women historically die from pregnancy more than any other factors.

Olhonestjim,

Pregnancy has always been the most likely way for women to die.

Olhonestjim, (edited )

There is not the slightest difference.

You need to face the fact that you don’t believe women should have rights. It’s got nothing to do with the fetus. It’s merely the vehicle for putting women back in the kitchen, barefoot and vulnerable to a man.

You ask when a fetus has rights? When a woman bestows human rights upon it by deciding to bring it to term. That’s when a person receives human rights. At birth, not conception. The rights bestowed upon us by The Creator? There are no gods. Women are our creators. By forcing them to create, you would desecrate that which you claim to hold so dear. You will make the creation of human life an ugly, hateful, disgraceful thing instead of a loving, intentional, consensual event.

You poisonous lot want to take away the most basic right a woman has: the freedom to decide to make life, and the right to say NO.

Olhonestjim,

No I’m just aware that that is exactly what will happen. That is exactly the policies that The forced birth movement advocates for. Openly.

Olhonestjim,

And you haven’t faced it, have you?

McDonald's prices are out of control. (cdn.masto.host)

Gee, it’s almost like corporations are gouging consumers so badly that their market advantages are being lost due to greed. Inflation this quickly isnt real. It’s what happens when you come off a global pandemic with millions dead and corporations see they can freely abuse you by exploiting the public zeitgeist that prices...

Olhonestjim,

They were at $.19 back in the early 90s.

Olhonestjim,

At least Mississippi doesn’t pretend to be god’s gift to humanity and the greatest nation to ever exist. Texas is high as shit on the smell of its own farts.

Olhonestjim,

And that’s why it sucks.

Olhonestjim,

There certainly have been such people. But none were ever billionaires. Such people do something which creates great value. Billionaires are parasites who do nothing but siphon value away from society.

Albert Einstein, Nikolai Vavilov, Marie Curie, Martin Luther King Jr, Alan Turing, Abraham Lincoln, Michael Faraday, Nelson Mandela, Isaac Newton, Edward Jenner, Harriet Tubman, Louis Pasteur, etc.

Olhonestjim,

Death Star blows up Alderaan.

"Why would socialism do this?!

Olhonestjim,

No, I want to fix my own country.

Olhonestjim, (edited )

The footage I’d like to see would be Patrick Stewart seeing Galaxy Quest for the first time. Actually, I’d kill to have that as a commentary for the Blu-ray. Hell, give me all the casts’ first reactions.

Olhonestjim,

Some might say the top, if you will.

Olhonestjim,

If only. I have to get hands on.

Olhonestjim,

All those glasses are two-dimensional.

I’m high.

Olhonestjim,

Lego, vinyl records, safety razors, guns, books, knives, flashlights, woodworking, Arduinos and raspberry pi’s…

So many barely fleshed out hobbies.

Olhonestjim,

It’s on the wish list.

Olhonestjim,

“Nice to meet you! Hey, I just thought of a real dumb joke. Bet you never heard it before. But nevermind that, tell me about yourself.”

Solarpunk Remote Employees

Is anyone in this sub or instance a remote worker? I have been one first partially and then completely for a few years now and I began to think as a kinda of solarpunk way of live that has the potential to propel humanity to a more decentralized and sustainable way of life, specially since I plan to move to a smaller town...

Olhonestjim,

Not exactly what you mean, but I’m a traveling wind tech. It’s pretty remote most of the time. I live in a camper, which I haul with a 20 year old diesel truck, so it ain’t ideal. But between my job and no kids, I suspect my carbon footprint is negative. I hope to buy land and build a small solarpunk earthship community in the deserts of New Mexico near a wind farm where I can work. Maybe an RV park too.
