Moghul,
  • Turn on your oven at 200c, ballpark
  • Trim any excess skin you don’t wanna eat off of a bunch of chicken thighs
  • Chuck the thighs in a baking sheet skin up
  • Wash some potatoes and cut em into wedges. You can peel em if you want
  • Chuck em in the baking sheet with the chicken
  • Sprinkle on some salt, and a bunch of other spices that work with chicken and/or potatoes. Garlic powder, pepper, paprika, fuckin dry basil or whatever, idk. Try to get it on both sides of the chicken but if you CBA just get it on the skin side
  • Drizzle some sunflower or olive oil all over everything. Just a bit is fine
  • Put the baking sheet in the oven. Doesn’t matter if the oven isn’t fully heated, it’s fine
  • Come back in like 1h and check if the chicken’s done. Come back every 10 min after that until it is
  • Once it’s cooked, you might turn on the fan to crisp up the skin and the potatoes a little more, or maybe not, whatever

It’s gonna be the most 7.5/10 dinner but it’s like 5 min prep, it reheats fine, and you can walk away and shower or take a nap. You can wash the baking sheet tomorrow, who cares? It was the first ‘recipe’ I learned how to cook in college, and it’s still my go-to lazy weekday recipe.

Moghul,

I’ve never even seen avocado oil but olive oil is perfectly good for cooking, just don’t fry anything in it.

Moghul,

All of this is true, the chicken and potato is just the lazy version. Lots of different vegetables can be added to this but the cooking time gets tricky because a lot of stuff cooks at different rates.

Moghul,

Yeah like I said, it’s no good for frying, but for baking it’s fine, and it can be added to hot dishes late too.

Moghul,

That’s actually awesome

why is it so difficult select text from posts?

Good morning, English isn’t my first language and it happens quie often that I need to select a good chunk of text to translate it with DeepL, why, in often cases, is impossible but select the title of an article that Lemmy’s bot has summarised? I would appreciate, and I am pretty confident I am not the only one, if the...

Moghul,

You’re not replying directly to people either. You’re only replying to the post. Maybe you can select text in Voyager too, but you don’t know how.

How often do you use "AI" to reply to your messages, if at all?

The recent chat bot advances have pretty much changed my life. I used to get anxiety by receiving mails and IMs, sometimes even from friends. I lost friendships over not replying. My main issue being that I am sometimes get completely stuck in a loop of how to formulate things in the best way to the point of just abandoning the...

Moghul,

No, and I’d say it’s probably not the solution to your problem that you think it is.

Reading the rest of these comments, I can’t help but agree. If I found out a friend, family member, or coworker was answering me with chatgpt I’d be pretty pissed. Not only would they be feeding my private conversation to a third party, but they can’t even be bothered to formulate an answer to me. What am I, chopped liver? If others find out you’re doing this, it might be pretty bad for you.

Additionally, you yourself aren’t getting better at answering emails and messages. You’ll give people the wrong impression about how you are as a person, and the difference between the two tones could be confusing or make them suspicious - not that you’re using chatgpt, but that there’s something fake.

This is in the same ballpark as digital friends or significant others. Those don’t help with isolation, they just make you more isolated. Using chatgpt like this doesn’t make you a better communicator, it just stops you from practicing that skill.

Moghul,

You’re right, but I expect a lot of people are going to have that reaction. It will feel to them like a slight and an invasion of privacy. OP has to find a way to deal with the anxiety; this is an unhealthy coping mechanism.

Moghul,

Start looking for a new job and if they ask why you’re quitting this one so early, be honest. Best case scenario they’ll be impressed that you actively want to grow. Worst case scenario they won’t hire you because they wanted someone for a boring job.

Moghul,

I agree with you too. It sounds like you have time on your hands, OP. Maybe use some of that to push your luck a little.

Moghul,

Peace of mind, and relaxation. I don’t want stuff.

Moghul,

I think I’ve written 3-4 different comments over the last 15 minutes here, and I don’t know what the right thing to answer is, but I loathe to leave you hanging. To put things shortly, and not get too rambly, what little future I can see is shaky, and I hate the song & dance of the holidays. I need some time for R&R, and a change of pace from my daily life.

Thanks for asking.

Moghul,

Orbit Culture’s great if you’re a metalhead

Moghul,

About a million euros to buy an apartment outright.

Moghul,

Regular mechanical watch. I don’t care about my notifications, I just want what is effectively a piece of jewelry. I prefer the watch to a bracelet because I also appreciate the worksmanship and design of the analog machine.

Moghul,

I disagree, there are definitely places where it’s necessary and it’s always appropriate where it’s necessary. It’s not a fallback for anything, it’s not a failure of the language. It’s a feature, not a bug. Probably don’t want to do it in formal environments, but even then there are times when it is absolutely the right language to use.

Moghul,

I agree with this, but you should teach your kids, not other people’s kids. I avoid it around kids because their parents don’t want me to do it, but I do cuss in casual conversation.

Moghul,

I’m surprised Kolanaki isn’t here already

Moghul,

Nice, wish I had seen this before I sent them a message, lmao. It’s good news that they’re looking into it though.

Moghul,

Genetics aside, the amount of cope and pseudoscience in these comments is really a spectacle. I don’t care enough to debate the point… Do they not know about olfactory fatigue? It’s not that you smell less folks, it’s that you get used to it.

Moghul,

Man, Stamets, have I got the thing for you. Check it out, prime procrastination: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aSdFrPnlRg

S-tier youtube video, too. No intro or outro, no sponsors, no nonsense. Just a good host talking enthusiastically and intelligently about a hypothetical scenario.

Moghul,

Enjoy!

Moghul,

Does a bag of holding count?

Moghul,

Not to mention the ease of carry. No heavy backpacks or unwieldy suitcases.

Moghul,

Reading all these comments sure does make me wish I liked it…

Moghul,

You don’t have to imagine it at all. All you have to do is go on youtube and learn about Replika.

To summarize, someone tried to create a chatbot to replace their best friend who had died. Later, this evolved into the chatbot app called Replika, which was marketed as a way to help with loneliness, except the bot would engage in dating-like conversations if prompted. The company leaned into it for a little bit, then took away that behavior, which caused some distress with the userbase, who complained that they had “killed their girlfriend”. I’m not sure where the product stands now.

I don’t know if I’d feel weirded out, but I’d definitely feel worried if it were a friend who fell for a chatbot.

Moghul,

Yeah… Part of why I wouldn’t try one is that I’m worried it would work. I already have limited bandwidth for human interaction; taking some of that away is probably a bad idea.

Moghul,

Event Horizon. Nuh uh. Mmmm, nope. Nah.

Moghul,

What makes it one of your favorite places?

Moghul,

I’m not the OP but tbh I think I understand where they’re coming from. At the very least, it seems to me that there are way more actively idealistic pushy people on lemmy. See for example the commie instances, the anarchist, antiwork, union-promoting, anti-car, anti-capitalism communities, etc etc. For anyone who thinks I’m for or against any of these, please consider I did not voice any opinion on them one way or the other, just acknowledged their existence. It’s difficult to get a feel for the general sentiment or develop an opinion from the comments. I opened recently a news post about the Gaza conflict and there were people there who said that people on this website just “hate the jews”, and then there were people who said that the instance was “run by jews”. When a post has 10 comments, 2 stand out.

The reason it seems like there are more extremist people here is that these posts get to the ‘front page’. Browse ‘All’ on lemmy.world and you’ll see quite highly opinionated posts. For someone who is just trying to pass the time, share some hobby stuff, look at memes, that kind of thing, it can be a little off putting.

Moghul,

Then play a game that doesn’t have sex. You’re like those people who want a difficulty slider in souls games. The game is not for you, my dude.

Moghul,

I do sure wish I had a balcony. I grew peppers and cherry tomatoes on my windowsill a few years in a row but the effort isn’t worth it for an apartment…

Moghul,

I do already keep herbs going as much as possible! (though I don’t do it from seed, lazy bum)

The community garden idea is great, but the ones in the city center here are… expensive and quite “hipsterish”.

Moghul,

Thanks, you too!

Moghul,

The easy way we fixed it when we still played dnd is that casters know what the spells are, even if it’s not in their spell list. You know if the enemy is casting firebolt or finger of death. Consider that if it’s possible to counterspell counterspell, which only has somatic casting components, then probably there is sufficient time to tell what each spell is. This fixes the bad feel of counterspelling because the spell is known by having everyone do it. Everyone knows what the spells are so you can choose to be strategic and get the most out of your counterspell.

If you want to justify it, you can imagine that all fire spells have some fire movement or incantation, add to that something related to size or expansion, plus a bead of fire forming, that’s a spicy fireball.

Moghul,

Tuvix was 50% Neelix which qualifies him for the death penalty. The real travesty is that Neelix was allowed to exist afterwards. /s

Janeway made the right call, Tuvok and Neelix had their own lives and families and they could be saved. Tuvok was also a majorly important member of the crew and his skills could easily have been instrumental to their salvation.

Proton 8 and up not working with Nvidia?

Hello! I’ve tried a bunch of games but they’re just not able to start on proton/wine/GE proton version 8 and up. If I switch back to proton 7 they’re working fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have a solution. Also softwares that don’t require GPU work fine too with version 8.

Moghul,

3070, driver version 535.113.01, kubuntu, GE-Proton8-20 works fine.

Moghul,

Sorry, no idea… I don’t know anything about that gpu, never heard of it.

Moghul,

Kubuntu 23.10

Moghul,

If you divide it zero times you have an apple. The discussion is about dividing by zero.

Moghul,

Thank fucking god. It’s exhausting being around people for whom any meme, any post, any comment, has to spin into how good communism is, how bad the libs are, how good China is, and how bad The West TM is. It is exhausting.

Moghul,

Lmao posted to the Communism community. How is this about communism? It isn’t. It’s just that to them, everything is about communism.
