Madison420,

Traditionally border patrol pushes have been failures, they get more staff but generally super underqualified and often times cartel linked. Yes it’s a better use of money but training the ones we have to actually be effective is better use.

Madison420,

Well no, there’s a difference between offgrid and alone and an offgrid commune.

Madison420,

Agreed, I’m a fan of village-regional center structure myself.

Madison420,

You weren’t aware in some states it’s legal to charge the prisoner for their stay? No, that’s not a joke.

Madison420,

They’re slaves literally, the 13th amendment quite literally bans slavery except in the case of “lawful” confinement.

Madison420,

You mistake my point, these people lately aren’t the toughened criminals that it effects. It’s people actually trying to change and stay out of jail/prison who catch lifelong debt and a reduced ability to repay that debt thus incentivizing returning to crime.

It’s a stupid fucking idea and their stay there is repaying the debt to society if you want them to make the state money then fucking garnish. People who endorse the prison system either haven’t looked into it or just aren’t willing to see reality.

Madison420,

It’s when they get out and states legit wonder why they see the same people over and over.

Madison420,

It’s cocaine and prostitutes because it’s always cocaine and prostitutes.

Madison420,

No capitalism is the issue, any governance that requires gross expansion and lack of regulation to thrive is inherently flawed and doomed to fail. If you pay attention this is very clear with the sine wave of inflation, recession, depression repeating itself in this case twice within some people’s lifetimes.

Madison420,

I think this probably happened the other way round. They had a separate more traditional language until they struck out and discovered other civilizations that spoke other languages. An allegorical language that can be modified with context under observation would actually be a fairly good way to relate and then exchange languages using tamarian as sort of a Rosetta stone.

Madison420,

Just cup your hand and smack it out of the air, it’ll be stunned for a bit and you can grab a wing a huck it somewhere else. You get to slap a wasp and you’re not a random bug murderer.

Wife's boss is on a power trip. Is this legal?

My wife works in a restaurant, and the power-tripping manager has instituted a new policy where all shift changes must be approved by management. I think that is reasonable enough, but they’re also asking the originally-scheduled employee why they are switching shifts, then approving or denying based on the answer....

Madison420,

Not really, it’s a private company unless you sign a contract they can indeed make their own policies.

TIL Alice Walton (Walmart heir) killed a pedestrian in a driving accident and was never charged. She has also been arrested for DUI twice but never charged. (en.wikipedia.org)

The sketchy part is not her not getting convicted. It’s that no charges were even filed. I also enjoyed this bit of info from one of the sources regarding the other DUI incident. Prosecutors in Texas have dropped a 2011 drunken driving citation against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. heiress Alice Walton.

Madison420,

One of the few crimes in Texas you cannot be arrested for is suspected ovi and open container.

Madison420,

Driving themselves sorta negates the idea of private security, they’re not mutually exclusive but it would be very weird.

Madison420,

Probably a kid, trial and conviction would be sealed.

Sun Spots on Our Active Sun - July 2023 (apod.nasa.gov)

An increase in surface activity is expected because our Sun is approaching solar maximum in 2025. However, last month our Sun sprouted more sunspots than in any month during the entire previous 11-year solar cycle – and even dating back to 2002. The featured picture is a composite of images taken every day from January to June...

Madison420,

They don’t, they’re the same spots overlayed over time. What you’re seeing is each spots parambulation around the sun which makes a banding pattern when all together, think of it like each spots orbit.

Republicans try to stop military’s electrification with mind-bogglingly dumb proposals (electrek.co)

Several Republican representatives have proposed amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act to try to stop the Pentagon’s electrification. The proposals sound so mind-bogglingly dumb that they look like they were written by 19th-century Luddites or the fossil fuel industry itself....

Madison420,

Fueling is also much less volatile and you can gain that electricity with cleaner means and cheaper fuels, ideally nuclear.

Madison420,

There is a temperature gradient from deep water to shallow, the sterling cycle is just not efficient enough to gain energy with a massive deep-shallow-deep heat pipe system.

Madison420,

You ain’t need but the one toof ya fancy sum bitch.

Madison420,

Mmm, $500 complete upper or lower but it cost me 3.5k out of pocket to go to a dental school and have the broken or useless shit out so I could get dentures and that’s ignoring the fact my loss of teeth is a genetic issue not lack of care.

Madison420,

How about lemmywinks… Maybe?

Madison420,

It’s a good show just deeply historically inaccurate, in our era he would be called a fascist but at the very least he was openly and blatantly anti democratic.

Madison420,

If we’re bbq’ing and you’re using silverware I think you’re doing it wrong, all bbq is finger food and bread is your napkin. It’s like the only time eating like you’re 6 when you’re 56 is socially acceptable.
