Really? I thought the loudness wars peaked around the mid 2000's/2010's. I feel like it's become less prominent in the last few years

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

BioWare actually made Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 lol

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

It's very nostalgic to me, I remember watching it a ton as kid on VHS. It's not GOOD but I think of it fondly

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yeah! I saw The Room for the first time last month in an art house theatre it was great

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

They do! :p

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

The first ~2 minutes are my favourite usually, I like the buildup a lot more than the actual porn most of the time

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

That looks nice! I played the demo a bit and it feels a bit clunky still but that makes sense if it's in early access, but with some more polish it seems really cool! c:

TIL why those with autism avoid eye contact; an overactive subcortical system, combined with an imbalance in the excitatory and inhibitory systems, can make eye contact feel like 'burning' (www.sciencedaily.com)

Direct gaze - that is, eye contact with another person - causes the subcortical system to overload, and the parts of the brain that deal with arousal and calming are failing to strike a balance. The end result is that direct eye contact triggers a physiological response which makes it physically uncomfortable to maintain eye...

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

I don't know if I would describe it for myself as 'burning'. Making eye contact to me feels overly intimate in a way that feels uncomfortable with people I'm not close to

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yes! NieR Automata is one of my favourite OSTs ever

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Some of my favourites:

  • NieR Automata
  • Katamari Damacy
  • Chrono Trigger
  • DOOM 2016
  • Celeste
  • Sonic Adventure 2
Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Haha always

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Oh fair! I've never actually played that one, only Katamari Damacy and Beautiful Katamari, I should check it out sometime

Is using terms like 2SLGBTQQIA+ insensitive?

So I’ve recently been trying to use the term “2SLGBTQQIA+” over “LGBTQ” as it seems more inclusive, and includes first nation peoples beliefs on sexuality and gender, as well as including and differentiating “queer” from “questioning”. It’s not perfect (still combines A for ally and A for Asexual) but I think...

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

I don't know if it's insensitive but it does seem unintuitive. Yeah "LGBTQ+" doesn't include everything in it's name but it's a short acronym that's easy to remember and say. If I'm in the middle of a conversation I probably can't remember 2SLGBTQQIA+. At the end of the day it's just language to communicate ideas, and I think LGBTQ+ gets the point across clearly. Alternatively you can just say Queer.

Please delete empty, opportunistic magazines created during the rexit (kbin.social)

There are a fair number of totally empty magazines created during rexit, with no threads, yet a fair number of subscribers (because the name matches a popular sub from Reddit). I clicked on one this morning, because I saw it in random magazines side bar section. No threads. Created a month ago by a user who hasn't posted a...

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yeah I feel similarly. I created a magazine and was excited about moderating it even, but I'm not very much of a poster, more a lurker and commenter. But yeah it has a few subscribers now so I should probably just make some posts as a start at least

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Businesses consider those the same thing unfortunately :/

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

This is why pirating games that aren't available to be bought anymore is never wrong

What is one generally common thing a lot of people do or believe that you cannot understand? (kbin.social)

I bring this up because it seems to once again be gaining traction in the zeitgeist: I cannot comprehend why UFO hunters put so much time and effort into trying to force governments to "reveal the truth about extraterrestrial contact", but I also cannot fathom how they think aliens even have a chance of successfully contacting...

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

I'm not religious myself but I do understand it sometimes. I feel like it can be a way to make sense of a world that doesn't really make sense a lot of the time. It can be nice to have at least something to hold on to.
But people who use religion as an excuse to do bad? Hate them

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Sorry but that looks ugly- not a fan of the look
I didn't expect Windows 12 to be announced for another few years, didn't 11 only come out last year?

Will migrating to another instance be possible in the future? (kbin.social)

Just like on Mastodon, that all my subscriptions and all can be migrated? It's not a priority right now probably, but I was just thinking as more instances pop up in the future that migrating would be a nice option to have. Like I said probably not a important right now, but I was just curious

Awesome! That's good to know, thanks :)

I play Splatoon but I usually feel out of place in Splatoon communities because I'm really really casual
But if there's a magazine for it I would definitely join

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yeah every so often. Sometimes I get reminded of people I used to people very close to and wonder how they're doing. I guess it's just a fear of "We already lost contact before, what if I connect with them and then just lose contact again?" Idk maybe I should just do it sometime just to get the thought out of my head, but the idea makes me very anxious

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yeah i heard of Lemmy first, but when I found out about the developers being tankies I switched to Kbin. I actually prefer Kbin a lot now! It's obviously still earlier in development but I think it shows more promise.

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Mildred is actually a sick ass name. I hope she's rocking it

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yeah agreed. It was kinda funny 10 years ago, but I thought we would've grown past it by now. Feels like needless gatekeeping

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

So when it comes to copyright music can actually be divided into two things: the song itself (the lyrics and melodies) and the performance of a song (the recording). I don't know the entire situation but I'm guessing Taylor Swift owns the rights of the songs themselves, but not the rights to the recordings of the songs that were made, so she's in her right to make her own recordings of the songs and then she would have full ownership of those. (Sidenote: I study composing for media and though copyright is part of my study, I'm not an expert)

Has anyone else noticed how active chat groups are after suddenly becoming in reddit?

I still have my reddit account to look up local news. Over my time on reddit I joined several chat groups and over the past week I’ve noticed that people are being mass added to these groups. Even ones that have been dead for years suddenly have people posting and commenting on them. It’s very obvious that this is been done...

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Wait reddit has chat groups? I didn't even know that was a think
I've never used anything other than old.reddit though so maybe that's why

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

I loved witches vs patriarchy! Would be cool to have a similar place here maybe

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Hey! I'm a 23 year old trans woman. Mostly here for talking about videogames, game dev, music and being queer. :)

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Oh cool I didn't know! That was always such a nice community on reddit ^^

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yeah me neither, I'm not a practising witch so it doesn't feel like my place to start that community

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Me too! I was on reddit for over a decade but mostly just lurked. Here I feel way more inclined to comment, maybe because it's smaller?

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

Yeah definitely agreed. I'm on Mastodon to follow people, I'm on Kbin to follow topics. And either way it's good to be anonymous on the internet

How can I help a friend who is falling into "witchcraft"? (kbin.social)

I have this friend, N, that has recently started believing things very out of the ordinary. He said that he's been getting into paganism and studying runes and candles. I told him that was very interesting, it sounded like a fun time and a good hobby to have. N let me know that it wasn't just a hobby, but that it had a function...

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

It's nice that you're protective of your friend, but could it be you're maybe overreacting a bit? I've dabbled in witchcraft myself in the past and I don't believe it's real, but it's nice to have something to believe in. I've also struggled with my mental health and witchcraft worked as a coping mechanism for me at times. It was comforting. Maybe it's the same for them?
