What the fuck did you just fucking say about America, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit about America over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” meme was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

If we say “Capitalism is ruining our lives”, it’s fine, but if someone from Russia says “Capitalism is ruining your lives”, folks are ready to throw down.

Bold of you to assume it was $24 and not $5.

KoboldCoterie,

Sure, and why wouldn’t they assume higher risk? The government will just bail them out if they lose those bets.

I think it was right about the time you chose an Apple product, from the look of it.

On the rider side, women and nonbinary riders will see an option to “count me in” in their Lyft app. Choosing this will “increase their chances of matching with women and nonbinary drivers,” according to this blog post from Lyft.

For drivers, the feature is based on the gender marker on their license on file, and for riders, on their gender setting within the app, explained CJ Macklin, senior communications manager at Lyft, in an email to The Verge. “Both riders and drivers will have the option to update their gender settings at any time to ensure it is reflective of their personal gender identity,” said Macklin.

It’s opt-in on both sides.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

That’s a neat feature; I wonder why it’s explicitly not available to men (who would prefer a male driver for whatever reason)… I guess maybe they feel that would go against the stated goal of encouraging more women to sign up as drivers, but like… why? If nothing else, men with a preference for male drivers would ensure that more women / non-binary folks could get drivers matching their gender, since as they note there’s far more non-male riders than drivers.

I also wonder if it gives non-male drivers the option to only accept riders who match their gender, which it seems would be the more important facet to encouraging non-male drivers, if safety concerns are the reason they’re not signing up to do so.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

It specifically says it lets riders request a driver matching their own gender, not any gender you want.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

If you’re non-binary, or not male, then you fall under this policy anyway; it only doesn’t apply to male-identifying males.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

It’s not about men asking for women drivers, it’s about everyone requesting their own gender - that’s what the policy allows. If a woman explicitly wants a male driver, this doesn’t help them, same as if a man wanted a woman driver, or a non-binary driver.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

All we have to go by is what’s in the article, which says:

Lyft is introducing a new feature that lets women and non-binary riders choose a preference to match with drivers of the same gender.

That’s kind of open to interpretation; either they’re calling non-binary a separate gender and matches people accordingly, or they’re really saying “Woman - biological and trans - can choose a preference to match with woman drivers”.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

The worst isn’t even people currently developing things - it’s developers who already have released products. Imagine if you released something like, over the summer, for example. You’ve been paying the current revenue share, and will continue to do so until Jan. 1, then you’ll start paying the per-install fee. So you’re paying twice for the same customers’ purchases.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

Exactly - as others have pointed out, if they can do this, what’s stopping them from raising it to $1 per install, or $100?

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

Seriously. If they were changing the terms going forward, that’d at least be defensible, but trying to make it apply to everything that’s ever been made is just nonsensical.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

I agree with you; they’d have to give plenty of notice that the changes were coming and maybe even offer exemptions for developers who can show they were working on something significantly before the announcement… I don’t think there’s any way they could reasonably do it that would avoid all backlash, but this just seems like the absolute worst way to handle it.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

Any future installs starting on January 1. It does, however, mean that many developers will be more or less forced to pull their games off of storefronts, if it actually goes through. It also means that if you bought a Unity game in the past, you’re costing the developer money every time you install it (again, if this actually goes through - I can’t imagine they won’t backpedal.)

The real issue with this isn’t the policy itself, which I would bet money won’t actually be enacted, but the fact that Unity (thinks they) can just unilaterally and retroactively change their policies. If this actually held up in court, which I think is a tenuous possibility at best (but I am not a lawyer so take that with a grain of salt), it sets an awful, awful precedent.

You’ll never convince me that they actually believe in God. If they did, they’d have to face the fact that the Bible disagrees with most of what they do. I think they just use their rhetoric about God as a means to an end, to capture the Christian voting bloc.

The study said 86.66% of the generated software systems were “executed flawlessly.”

But…

Nevertheless, the study isn’t perfect: Researchers identified limitations, such as errors and biases in the language models, that could cause issues in the creation of software. Still, the researchers said the findings “may potentially help junior programmers or engineers in the real world” down the line.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

And when the reviews are terrible and end users start reporting unreal quantities of bugs, they’ll fire the junior devs. They should have fixed those!

I haven’t played Starfield, but that sounds like No Man’s Sky when it first released. A few points of interest per planet, nothing else of note to do there, and the entire planet just became a rather boring trip from point A to point B to point C and nothing more.

This article is about consoles, not PCs. Good luck copying your console game to another folder on the HD.

Even disk-based games on newer consoles often don’t include the full game; in many cases they’re just an installer, really, which then requires downloading the bulk of the files from the net.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

I tried copying game data when we were replacing our PS4 hard drive, but it just caused a lot of problems (with games having to “verify” the installation when launched, which was a very lengthy process, probably longer than just re-downloading it would have been; I don’t know what it was actually doing). We were able to preserve save data, though.

For the longest time, I thought this lyric in The Decemberists’ Annan Water was:

“…though my mother cries, that if I try, I sure will drown in pee…”

They repeat it 4 times; the last one, especially, I just can’t hear otherwise.

I think you’ve identified the problem.

I love songs that completely change genre partway through. Can be slow acoustic songs that switch to fast techno; loud, bangy songs that turn calm and soft; rap songs with calm, piano-based choruses; whatever.

Examples would be:

Yeah, I see it more as having potential as something to build on for other applications. Most AI-generated content started kind of shitty, but it’s got neat implications for what could be possible in the near future.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

There doesn’t necessarily need to be a repository of virtual worlds to train them on; I don’t know exactly how this works, it could be generating the data as something other than a 3D environment, then running it through algorithms to convert it to a 3D environment after the fact. We already have software that can convert static images to 3D models, so this isn’t even far fetched.

I agree with you that the progress will likely be slow, but just the fact that it’s being actively done in any capacity is encouraging - attention being paid to it is the first step in improving it!

KoboldCoterie,

That’s not really FOMO. FOMO would be like, pre-ordering a special edition of a game you aren’t even sure about wanting for $90 because there’s a “Preorder-Only” in-game perk and you just have to have, or falling for those “Limited Time Only” microtransactions in FTP games.

KoboldCoterie,

I guess I can see where you’re coming from. Kind of the fear of missing out on being a part of the gaming zeitgeist.
