It’s a bit wild how petty Bethesda comes off as. It’s like they’d rather spend a bunch of money to convince people their games are still good instead of, you know, trying to make good games.
It’s hard to do that officially when a big chunk of users are minors. Neither Twitch nor the streamers of this content want to admit that they make money serving softcore porn to kids. Cause that’d be weird.
Seems like the conclusion of the article ends up admitting luck plays a large role. From the article you linked: “It is important to note that this research can not explain why a particular individual does well or poorly financially. Luck, timing, parents, choice of spouse and many other factors play important roles in shaping an individual’s circumstances.”
Oh no, the buffoons who mismanaged the company so badly that scores of people are laid off have to be fired! Now who will fuck things up while making off with tons of cash?
In this same vein I actually want Starfield to be even more immersive. When I take off in search of a new planet, I want to leave my computer on for 700 years while my ship travels through space.
What do you mean that’s stupid and boring? It’s real.
Asking the question here allows a conversation to happen, informs others that SearXNG is a thing and provides additional context.
If everyone just looked everything up on their own, there wouldn’t be much of a forum here for you to go and wag your finger at people asking questions.
If you want more reasons about why allowing people to ask questions is beneficial for the health of a community, you can go google it.
While this is a reasonable take, it ignores the fact that many modern video games (unlike the other things you listed) are specifically designed to be incredibly addictive while the marketing and PR does everything to belie this fact.
My absolute favorite bit is that an in-game LFG is incredibly complex, while pretty much every other multiplayer game has this figured out. How totally fucked is their codebase that seemingly every feature is some gargantuan project they can’t figure out?
A startup called PimEyes allows anyone to identify a stranger within seconds with just a photo of the person's face. The technology has alarmed privacy advocates worldwide.
It would be less awkward to pull out a phone, take a picture of someone and pull up their info, adding their biometric data to some random company’s servers (possibly against their wishes) instead of just asking what their name is? Seems way less awkaward and more reasonable to just say she has facial ephasia than do all that.
Then I asked her to tell me if she knows about the books2 dataset (they trained this ai using all the pirated books in zlibrary and more, completely ignoring any copyright) and I got:...
WhatsApp is a bit different since many countries use that instead of SMS. Suppose it depends on the culture of where you’re applying. Always pays to use caution though.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill to require human drivers on board self-driving trucks, a measure that union leaders and truck drivers said would save hundreds of thousands of jobs in the state.
This is a nice sentiment, but it falls apart when you realize that a lot of the exploration is procedurally generated POI that eventually copies not just assets, but layouts and granular details. That tends to detract from a sense of wonder and mystery.
Which is fine, if they would just embrace that instead of trying to change how people perceive their work.
Imagine it in five years when the modding scene has popped off though. It could truly be something spectacular. Which is frankly the only saving grace of Bethesda games. They’re a solid sandbox/framework for others to fill in.
It’s a Bethesda RPG in space. If you’re looking for No Man’s Sky, it isn’t that. If you’re looking for Elite Dangerous, it isn’t that. But it is a BSG RPG, just like I’ve been playing since Morrowind, and it really scratches that itch. I like the characters I’ve met, I’ve enjoyed exploring, and I’m starting...
The performance is really something they need to figure out. Granted it’s not Fallout 4 with unavoidable micro stuttering, but it’s absurd that I get better performance in something like Cyberpunk with ray tracing and high/ultra settings.
You might want to add the proper context that the servers were siezed by authorities (so not stolen) and they were very transparent about the fact that it was a legacy system. They also followed with a plan to rectify, including third part audits. Every organization makes mistakes, it’s how they respond that matters.
If you’re looking for a VPN provider that hasn’t had issues ever in their history, good luck. You’ll just end up with the ones who lie and cover up incidents.
I will sing the praises of Windscribe until the day I die. Privacy respecting, affordable and great customer service. And yes, they offer port forwarding as well.
I’m not sure what world you’re living in, but the average person has been using the internet since dial-up was publicly available. It’s not the 70’s where the idea of a computer is some fringe hardware. Shit, my rural redneck parents had a computer with an internet connection in the mid 90’s.
Of course it’s “Anglocentric”. The internet was invented in the US, with help from other western nations, and many of the globally spanning services are provided by US companies.
It’d be like if I told a European that only wealthy vacationers ride trains because it’s incredibly expensive and there’s barely any routes. Meanwhile many other countries have highly developed and affordable public transportation systems. It’s not really valuable for me to make sweeping comments about it when my country is not involved in the innovation or execution of that market.

A really simple and effective solution is walking. It can not be overstated how helpful a couple short walks a day can help. You’ll get the added bonus of fresh air, vitamin D and an opportunity to reset your brain. Quick and easy.
can you make whatever or are there rules to peertube, and why does everyone say its better than youtube? I want to make gameplay videos someday but i wasnet sure if i should use peertube, youtube, or some other thing....
I have confidence it’ll get there someday. Remember that YouTube started out as a small, unknown service in the days before ubiquitous cloud computing and storage providers. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Perhaps, or perhaps it will be like Lemmy/kbin where people are reinvigorated to create simply for the pleasure of creating, whereas they only preciously scrolled anonymously. You may not remember, but there was a time where YouTube was new, you were not making any money from your videos and yet people made all sorts of things. There was also Newgrounds and eBaum’s World and I’m sure a few others I forgot.
Sure, if they gained traction, they’d make a business out of it, but there was no algorithm to worry about or analytics to monitor. The current corporate options are far from the only possible solution and it will fade in time just like everything else has.
I just feel like I’m intruding on a private moment and just sit there tense and embarrassed until it’s over. Trying not to listen to the schlorp schlorp noises....
