The Man Amazon Erased (www.tabletmag.com)

Jackson soon discovered that Amazon suspended his account because a Black delivery driver who’d come to his house the previous day had reported hearing racist remarks from his video doorbell. In a brief email sent to Jackson at 3 a.m., the company explained how it unilaterally placed all of his linked devices and services on...

Smart Devices are fine. Buy devices that use Z-Wave or ZigBee and run them with something like Home Assistant. All local processing, no internet needed.

These people aren’t “illegals” nor are they “undocumented”. They are Asylum Seekers which means that they’ve filled out paperwork and are awaiting a decision on their case. This program, TPS, doesn’t make them “legal”, as in grant them a Green Card or Citizenship, it just allows them to WORK legally while they are awaiting the outcome of their Asylum Case.

To put it in Conservative language; do you want these people to continue living off the State or would you prefer that they find a job and start paying taxes?

Attempting to create a Supra National World Government like this would cause most, if not all, of the industrialized nations to immediately leave. Even China would pack up its office and walk out the door.

This particular School District has pulled this stunt so many times that the State of Texas passed a damn law, called the CROWN Act, to make them stop! They’re back it claiming that the CROWN Act doesn’t regulate length or color.

The CROWN Act sailed through the Texas Legislature with strong bi-partisan support and Gov Abbott even held a formal signing ceremony for it. How god damned racist do you have to be that even those people think you’ve gone too far?

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

More like Racist School District is Racist As Fuck. Texas passed a law making this shit illegal, primarily because of this exact School District!

Do foscams work well with Frigate? The next step in my Smart Home evolution is Cameras and I’d like to use Frigate because it integrates well with Home Assistant (and I already have the Google Coral Module).

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

Will they do person / object detection when setup like that or do they need an internet connection for that to work? I’m liking what I’m seeing with their product line-up and integration with Home Assistant but these days I won’t use anything that doesn’t work local only.

A Cuban teenager was offered a job doing 'construction work' in Russia. Instead he was sent to fight on the front lines in Ukraine. (www.businessinsider.com)

A Cuban teenager unwittingly found himself on the front lines of the war in Ukraine after accepting a job offer he received on WhatsApp to do “construction work” for the Russian military, according to Time magazine....

I hope this post will contain a civil conversation about the topic without it derailing into a giant fighting pit about the United States.

Whelp…it was a good thought.

Oh Nohz! One country has sanctions! Good thing that nearly no one else does or they wouldn’t have anyone to trade with!

(Also the US Embargo is dumber than dirt and should have been ended 50 years ago.)

Another country has called Xi a 'dictator' and China is not happy with that description (edition.cnn.com)

China has lashed out at Germany after its foreign minister called Xi Jinping a “dictator” and summoned Berlin’s ambassador for a dressing down, in the latest flaring of tensions with a western democratic power over how the Chinese leader is described overseas.

I’m glad I live in Washington state with our cheap renewable energy.

Texas has more renewable energy production than you do. In Q1 of 2022 Washington State generated 25 Million Megawatt hours of renewal energy and Texas generated 34.

In fact Texas generates more renewable energy than anyone else. So much more that, excluding Washington, you’d need to combine

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

Sure they do, then they get run the fuck over by the big money Capitalists who are building it anyway. Texas is #1 in renewable energy production for a reason.

Buelldozer,

Doesn’t apply. He’s not being penalized by a State but rather by the Federal Government. Plenty of examples out there of people getting prison sentences for lying on question 11e of the 4473.

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

So Republicans are cool with Hunter’s indictment over his gun license application details?

Dunno about Republicans in general but a lot of Gun Owners are because they’ve wanted question 11e on the 4473 removed for a LONG time and Hunter’s situation was a way to force the Federal Goverment / ATF to address the issue.

To be clear Hunter shouldn’t be in trouble for this BUT neither should anyone else and it was always bullshit they’d dismiss his charge but toss other people in prison over it.

Patrick Daniels got four years and the 5th Circuit only over turned that conviction in August of 2023 which was after the details of Hunters deal were released.

How’d you like to be the guy sitting in prison watching CNN tell you about the President’s Son getting a pass on the same thing that put you inside?

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

Me thinks you’re just repeating bullshit you heard online, me thinks.

I’ve filled enough of the damn things out, no idea why I had 11e stuck in my head. It’s question 21f.

“Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside”

This isn’t racism. She’s pretty but she is brown skinned. This is about money. El Chapo had that the US and Mexican Government’s wanted but couldn’t find.

His Wife was in control of the Money Laundering, she knew where the money went and was being kept. She bought her way out with several billion dollars of El Chapo’s drug money.

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

Her plea deal was too lenient

I agree with you on that, we just disagree about why she got such a lenient plea deal.

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

If she knows where all the money is why tf are we letting her walk?

It was part of her Plea Deal which you can read here.

Specifically Section 5 entitled “Criminal Forfeiture”. It doesn’t state it directly but it’s clear she was required to cough up the location of El Chapo’s missing billions and if she didn’t then the Plea Deal could be revoked.

If this mess is a video game then NATO is the Pro-Gamer giving their young up and coming cousin Ukraine advice while it plays a PVP match against its older brother Russia. Russia used to be a ranked player, although allegations about cheating still abound, but NATO is The Ranked Player and everyone, even Russia, knows what will happen if NATO takes the controller from Ukraine.

Imagine your government officials walking around with devices fully capable of recording bodily activities, location, sound, video, and transmit it to a foreign power, with or without the wearer’s knowledge.

They don’t have to imagine it. They are actively DOING it with TikTok! Then there’s the not so small matter of all the spying that Huwaei was doing using their 5G network equipment.

Here’s another one: Have you read the articles about Mozilla reporting what a privacy nightmare today’s cars are? China has banned Teslas from being parked in our around their Government Offices and Military bases. Today’s cars, especially EVs, are absolutely loaded with high end spy tech. Video recording in optical and non-optical wavelengths, audio recording, gps positioning, radar and ultrasound systems, remote control of those systems, remote data access to those systems…

Since China banned Tesla’s cars from being parked in sensitive locations what do you think they are doing with their auto brands such as BYD?

Everyone is spying on each other like mad.

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

China bashing aside how likely is the us engaging in tech espionage of foreign countries?

100% real and there’s no question about it.

Buelldozer,

Huawei may be “owned” by its employees but that isn’t the same thing as being controlled by them. Huwaei’s structure is extremely unusual and highly opaque.

Not for long. Now that HarmonyOS 4 is out they’re pushing HarmonyOS NEXT which has all of the Android libraries removed.

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

I wouldn’t bet against it but from the CCPs perspective that’s still better than iOS & Android where it’s a near certainty that the NSA has back doors baked into the OS.

Fascinating scheme for Wayward Police Officers they’re running.

Of the 50 Sworn Officers 38 of them are CROs (Certified Reserve Officers), meaning they aren’t Regular Day to Day Police but rather people who can be called on when asked / needed. Since these people are CRO they’re able to be used in other towns / cities / counties when necessary. Big Event in Houston and you suddenly need an extra 30 or so cops? These people are available. Want private security for your mall / apartment building / construction site but need them to be “Certified” for insurance purposes? These folks are available.

the individual officers make money doing that stuff and if they do it long enough without getting into trouble again then they can point to their clean record as a CRO in Coffee City as a reason they should be hired back onto a regular force.

The question I have is what is Chief JohnJay Portillo getting from this? Nobody is going to run a setup like for this nothing, so what’s his angle? Oh, the guy has an active warrant for DWI out of Florida too.

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

What’s sad is that you KNOW the Deputy wasn’t really terminated for that. That incident was near certainly downwritten to be less severe than it actually was and you can you bet $$$ that this Deputy had a history of it.

These people don’t get fired for one off slapping incidents. They only get fired for severe and repeated infractions and even then only after one of them goes public and can’t be kept quiet.

Buelldozer,
@Buelldozer@lemmy.today avatar

The city brought in over a million dollars in fines in one year.

Maybe, but it looks like their Peace Officers make $45,000 ish a year so that’s half of the million spent before you include benefit costs which could easily run another 30% putting it at $700,000. Then you have equipment (Cars, Radios, Uniforms, Firearms, etc) and training costs (Have to stay Certified) for 12 Officers which would probably run another $100,000 per year. Now there’s maybe 20% of that Million left.

It’s still money but it’s not THAT much money.
