Damn that picture is glorious

Have you read Musashi, the novel?

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Nice, thanks for the recommendation!

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Nice, actually I think I heard about it a while back.

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Seems pretty good, you should probably just give it a try and see which one you prefer. joinfirefish.org/join/ is also an option (I like it better than Mastodon, but to each their own)

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

All of my friends except one (so 3 out of 4) that bought a house had to rely on mum and dad.

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Hm, I don’t think you are the first person I see reporting this. Have you tried using other front-ends such as vger.app?

Maybe they handle links differently (I know for sure that mobile clients such as Liftoff do)

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Did you login? I did, and you can see the color difference between the two links: https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/05f813af-7a62-4b0a-a4c5-88bf46e7e31e.png

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

I mean, the only thing we have established so far is that that specific front-end behaves in that way. I’m not sure about the usual lemmy interface, and kbin neither

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Indeed, or even photon.xylight.dev

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

I think they are still trying to damage control the PR scandal about the racial slur: techcrunch.com/…/bluesky-racial-slurs-banned-list…

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Very sad news, especially knowing that they were fighting the fires

Blaze,

I guess in your case, people are maybe enjoying their summer in hikes and less on their phones/computer he he

For sports, isn’t it break time? I know it is for european football

I usually always assume people here to be at least familiar with Linux

Which sorting algorithm do you use? Hot and Active are Broken, New and New comments are better

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Also, have a look at this post: lemmy.ml/post/1769252

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

I mostly agree with you, I was just trying to give a quick fix to OP to solve their issue.

I also noticed they they are registered on lemmyverse.org, which is a quite small instance, which might also explain the poor browsing experience

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

This is not a support community, please have a look at the sidebar for support communities

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

To be honest, creating a Mastodon/Firefish account is quite fast and low commitment. You can always don’t use it afterwards

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Has the community moved elsewhere, be it Lemmy/Kbin or Discord?

It’s disheartening to see this kind of communities collapse

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Have a look at /r/Unixporn for some bitching about the mods

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Interesting, thanks. I’ll research this further.

IP addresses make more sense, because they can be used to be cross-checked with your ISP to know who you are.

If you don’t tell anyone your username and use a VPN, there is no way for people to guess your Lemmy username

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Interesting perspective, but then cannot we consider that Lemmy users are aware that they are including all of the Fediverse in their conversation? That way Lemmy instances could be treated in the same way email providers are

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Interesting

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Thanks for the definition, and that brings us to the next question: I know your identifier, [email protected]. However, does that make you identifiable by me, even indirectly? I have no way to identify you using that information.

I always think that they meant online identifier such as [email protected], where the identifier indeed directly allows to identify the person.

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Definitely agree on your last point. When I see a community like this, I try to report it to the admins, because indeed, it gives a bad look.

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Hello,

As a suggestion, you might want to try another instance less popular than lemmy.world. I had the same issues a few weeks ago, and then created a few accounts on other instances, that way I’m always safe.

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

If you miss her so bad, you can just go back. It’s okay, really, I guess most people still go to both website. It’s a website after all, don’t see too much into it.

On my side I’m just reminded everytime I have to use RedReader to access Reddit on my phone that they really don’t want me there.

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

You joined almost a month back, those were rough times. Today is much better.

Today I would just tell people

  1. Go to lemmy.world (even old.lemmy.world if they like that interface)
  2. Lurk for a while
  3. When you want to create an account, do it in LW. You will be able to move it later on.

That’s pretty much it.

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

That’s fine, really. There is no rush, the only people setting deadlines here were Reddit, and they still have to actually do something about killing access to 3rd parties (I know a lot of people still use 3rd party apps with Revanced keys)

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Hm, I see. A shortcoming of the law, when they probably did not imagine something such as Lemmy or Mastodon happening. By the way, how does Mastodon deal with that? They’ve been around for much longer

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Did you have a look at this? github.com/vmavromatis/Lemmy-keyboard-navigation

Also this community might interest you: sh.itjust.works/c/plugins

The ability to block a whole instance instead of each community as we can know

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

I guess we don’t talk about the same kind of scenario.

You describe one where the creator did it in good faith, started posted for a bit, but isn’t that active. That’s completely fine, I agree with you.

I am talking about people who started dozens or even hundreds of communities, just to leave them there without even posting a single thing. Looks like a power trip to me, and I could understand why newcomers might be reluctant in participating in such communities (especially if they come from Reddit)

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

Alright, happy to help!

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

That’s okay. I can help. First of all, it’s really fine to stay on LW for now, no need to rush anything. But if at some point you have some time for this, then read the following.

So, to pick your instance, you can have a look at lemmy.fediverse.observer/list, filter by “1m” to see what are the most popular ones. As you can see, with a 27433 monthly users, Lemmy.world is by far the most popular, which is why you might experience some issues from time to time.

You should have a look at the next instances on the list. Short story: lemm.ee, sh.itjust.works, lemmy.one, sopuli.xyz and reddthat.com are solid choices.

You are looking at instances with quite a lot of people (the more people help with filling your “All” feed), just not the most populous one (lemmy.world), the original one (lemmy.ml), and instances that are too specific, either due to country or specific focus.

Long story:

spoiler- lemmy.ml is the original insance, also quite crowded, not really the best choice - lemm.ee can be nice, you can have a look at it and see how fast it is for you. The admin communicates a lot and is very helpful. - sh.itjust.works had some rough time in the last few days. You might also not like the name, that’s okay. - beehaw.org does not federate with the big instances, so if you go there, you will be in their own space. It can a valid choice, but please have a look at their guidelines first, they tend to moderate a lot. Can work for you, or not. - feddit.de, lemmy.ca, discuss.tchncs.de, feddit.uk, aussie.zone are country specific instances, so probably not interesting to you if you are not from there - lemmynsfw is a NSFW instance, probably not the one you want to move to - programming.dev is an instance focused on programming - lemmy.blahaj.zone is a pro queer instance

.

To migrate your settings (including subscriptions and blocked instances), you can use that script: github.com/CMahaff/lasim

Thanks for your feedback! I’m just curious how it would be realistic to scale the charging stations enough to sustain a larger (let’s say 30% or even 50%) of cars being EV. Should we just have giant charging stations hubs every 50 km?

You have to keep in mind that long distance travel is not the usual use case and that being able to slowly charge the vehicle during the night is also important.

That’s very true, to be honest my personal preference would be to reassess the need to have so many people travelling so much during July/August (you see the most popular hotspots such as Venise or Barcelona trying to reduce the number of tourists) but that’s a different story

Blaze,
@Blaze@sopuli.xyz avatar

This makes sense, but for every parking spot at restaurants and rest stops parking to have a charger seems like quite a logistical challenge.

I mean, current Basque people are descendants of the original Basque people it’s not like someone arrived from another continent and slaughtered them.

About the language, there are a few other non Indo-European languages: Finnic languages (including Finnish, Estonian) and Ugric languages (Hungarian)
