The first #book itself did not convince me. The world was interesting for its own #grisha systems, but the story itself and the characters felt a bit empty and cliché.
However, even the first book was enough to make me want to read the next one.
By the middle of the second book, the story and characters became more interesting. Or the suction of the story was already pulling me with it. @bookstodon#books#fantasy#spefi
The third book went very smoothly right after others. On the end I liked all the characters, even though many of them seemed boring at the beginning. The plot in general took nice different angles as the book series progressed. So, all in all, in the end, I liked the trilogy.
Who would like reviewer copies of my new short story collection POWER TO YIELD AND OTHER STORIES; and/or the latest anthology I edited, ROSALIND'S SIBLINGS?
I made a request form! (Pls don't self-reject from requesting, you don't need to have a huge platform!)
For your reading pleasure, all six of my novel-length works of speculative fiction are currently available to read for free via Amazon's Kindle Unlimited service.

WEIRD TALES: 100 YEARS OF WEIRD was just delivered to my door & whooo-hoo, is it pretty. Seriously. It has a kickass dust jacket, a prismatic cover, & is CHOCK-FULL of color images inside. Jonathan Maberry edited this beauty & it has mucho talent in these pages.
The classic authors you'd expect & exciting new/current ones, too 😍
Sooo excited to see this book nearing its day in the spotlight! Kaisa was a delight to supervise as a PhD student, and we had so many wonderful conversations about things #enactive while she was writing.
It's day two of the giveaway and we're off to a strong start, with a dozen new readers picking up their copies of "Shards" to begin their journey along "The Nod/Wells Timelines," but we can do better! 📘🙂👍
The #Kindle edition of "Shards" is now available for #free on Amazon's various international storefronts. This will be the case until October 4th, so get while the getting's good.
We're just a day away from the start of my latest book giveaway, so I wanted to share the following image, which shows how the stories in "Shards" relate to the other works from "The Nod/Wells Timelines." Hopefully, this will give everyone some useful context, and some ideas about which other books of mine to explore if they enjoy their time with "Shards."
Note that you can always find the most up-to-date version of "The Nod/Wells Timelines" via my official web site:
Taking the form of an extended mission message to earth from an intergalactic exploratory mission, Becky Chambers' #scifi novella, To be Taught if Fortunate (2019), is a quick read. While lacking narrative fireworks its a pleasing matter-of-fact description of space exploration & the ethical dilemmas it will encounter. While ultimately rather melancholy, it is an interesting afternoon's read if you like procedural #speculativefiction @bookstodon
