I am having the best ever book mail week. I love short horror stories so much! On Monday I received The Year's Best Dark Fantasy & Horror from the publisher for review consideration and Last night I received a gifted copy of Nightmare Abbey Volume 4. I feel like Christmas came early for me. #bookstodon#bookmail #horrorfam#horrorbooks@horrorbooks
📚 #Bookmail Pt 1
-Tenebrous Press remains one of the best #indie presses around w the wonderful assortment of swag they send with every order & this HC edition of POSTHASTE MANOR by Jolie Tomajan & Carson Winter is no exception. It's got cover art by Trevor Henderson, illustrations by Alex Woodroe, & the story sounds fantastic. (I'll review it soon!)
(Btw, the boxes they send their orders in make fabulous containers for art supplies.)
-Reissue of POLYPHEMUS by Michael Shea: a short story collection that includes the story that GDT's Cabinet of Curiosities adapted- and one of my favorites in the series- "The Autopsy." From the always stellar #Valancourt Books.
AND
-JACKAL, JACKAL by Tobi Ogundiran
-NO ONE WILL COME BACK FOR US by Premee Mohammed
Both from the consistently compelling weird fiction publisher @Undertow:
-#McSweeney's #71: THE MONSTROUS AND THE TERRIBLE, guest-edited by Brian Evanson, w stories by:
Mariana Enriquez, Attila Veres, Stephen Graham Jones, Jeffrey Ford, Gabino Iglesias + others. It comes in a series of nesting, interlocking slipcases covered in horrid goodness.
-Also got this FANTASTIC #HauntedMansion print from #Spirit. I adore this ride & I feel like I have a part of it w me now even though I'm far, far away.
📕 RED RABBIT by Alex Grecian
📕 THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE by Carissa Orlando
📕 KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON by David Grann (Non-fiction, oooh)
📕 LET THE WOODS KEEP OUR BODIES by E.M. Roy
📕 A HAUNTING ON THE HILL (US edition) by Elizabeth Hand
Love the first line of Seth Dickinson’s new #sciencefiction book, EXORDIA: “What do you do when you meet an alien in Central Park?” (uncorrected proof).
📗 The stunning deluxe hardcover for BLOOD FROM THE AIR by Gemma Files, preordered from Grimescribe Press and it's beautiful! 😍
Limited to 200- their website says there's only 50 left so if you want one, the link's below
📘 Lovely UK edition of A HAUNTING ON THE HILL by Elizabeth Hand from Sphere
No #horror#books at the #thriftstore, but I did get these three AND a 🕸️ spiderweb 🕸️ shirt & Spiderman™ hoodie
They had a huge set of Stephen King hardbacks that filled me with sadness: lots of old ones (The Stand, Night Shift, The Shining!) but they had obviously been stored incorrectly or involved in a fire/flood. Terrible condition. 😭
And I finally got my order for NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT. Ordered it wks ago.
When I hear via Stephen Graham Jones that two of his books are going out of print (for a bit) I snatch them up. 'Cos there are some now OOP that are SUPER hard to find and quite expensive (unless you're persistent & also lucky enough to find them on Thriftbooks then grab them, like I did)
-THE LAST FINAL GIRL and ZOMBIE BAKE-OFF by Stephen Graham Jones (from Lazy Fascist Press & Eraserhead Press)
📚 #Bookmail, Part 1
A bunch of preorders & orders came in!
-OUT THERE SCREAMING: AN ANTHO OF NEW BLACK HORROR: intro by Jordan Peele, Ed by JJ Adams, feat Tananarive Due, P. Djèlí Clark, Tochi Onyebuchi + many more
-SCAREWAVES written (& illustrated, of course) by Trevor Henderson
-THE SECRET LIFE OF INSECTS by Bernardo Esquinca from #Valancourt Books
📚 #Bookmail
WEIRD TALES: 100 YEARS OF WEIRD was just delivered to my door & whooo-hoo, is it pretty. Seriously. It has a kickass dust jacket, a prismatic cover, & is CHOCK-FULL of color images inside. Jonathan Maberry edited this beauty & it has mucho talent in these pages.
The classic authors you'd expect & exciting new/current ones, too 😍
My Shadow Is Yours: A one-trick-pony middle-aged author and a literature graduate student form an unlikely friendship on a road trip through Italy. Translated from the Italian and out this month from Other Press
#Bookmail from the lovely people at Valancourt who truly do the world a service by reprinting some fabulous and sometimes long OOP books.
These are the two newest #PaperbacksFromHell from Thomas Tessier and they look fantastic. Should be able to get to them in November (hopefully, haaaa) but for now they look right at home amongst my other vintage paperbacks and PFH.
-Excited for this Valancourt reissue of a "modern horror classic," according to their wise curators: Thomas Tessier's THE NIGHTWALKER
-THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG IN MORRINGTON COUNTY from Ryan W. Kinney sounds fantastic: "A QPOC-centered horror short story collection. The 12 stories include flesh-eating pixies, killer thighs, people microdosing zombie blood, and more." YES, PLEASE
