Posed this question over at the Sky place but I'll do it here, too, because I'm curious & want replies!
So, hopefully, since you're [#horror people] we're all familiar w Leland Gaunt, the Needful Things villain that can find something to tempt most people... I'm pondering, cuz I'm hard pressed to think of something I'd be vulnerable/susceptible to. Probably a 1st edition of a rare book. Or perfect health.
If someone, who isn’t an avid reader says, “This is one of the best books I’ve ever read…” (assuming they aren’t talking about something they read when they were 5)
Do you think:
Wow, this must be a phenomenal book, I must find it immediately.
@medievodons, does anyone know about #rabbits in #14thCentury England? I read that a coveted royal licence of 'free warren' was required to keep & hunt rabbits. However, the accounts of the #LadyOfClare record in 1338/9 the receipt of rabbits from various manors which had no such licence. More details available but... would the rabbits have been caught legally? on what terms? or domesticated? Thoughts welcome! #medieval#rabbit#question
Everyone whose literary tastes I trust, recommends Black River Orchard but Chuck Wendig. I loved Mr. Wendig's apple threads on twitter. I love love love apples. But I'm really squeamish regarding hard core horror (blood, gore, slaughter, graphic violence). So, people of @bookstodon – shall I at least try to read it? #bookstodon#question
Some material I'm studying is differentiating between a "security analyst, an "information security analyst," and a "SOC analyst."
What is the major difference between the three roles if there are significant differences? Up until now I thought they were pretty much synonymous and variations on basically the same job role.
Another really popular author whom I have never read anything by. I have a few of his & have been thinking about starting with this one. Fantasy is my least (tied with YA and self-help) favorite genre. That being said, I’m willing to give it a try.
Hey my programming friends, I have a question. My daughter is taking a C class in college and is using CLion to write her stuff. One of the comments her professor keeps saying is “remember to work in a Unix environment.”
I’ve always used an IDE when I program so I’m not sure what that means. Anyone able to help?
When you need to understand and retain important #information that you have #read, do you use an #electronic#book or a traditional paper #book for the purpose?
@jarulf@bookstodon I too prefer to #read a physical #book for this purpose. I find like you, that #audiobooks are not ideal for in-depth understanding and retention.
Tech question - I am on the Mastodon app, Metatext & now Ice Cubes. This means my notifications are going crazy. Can I delete myself on the apps I don’t want or does that delete my profile? I can’t get my head around it! #Tech#Mastodon#mastodonhelp#question#Help
Does anyone have an alternative they like for Google Lens?
I'd need it to recognize plants and animals, primarily. If it's an app, it should be for Android. I'd even be willing to pay a small fee for a service.
(I do enough nature photography that I'd like to be able to put names of things in my alt text. But I am awful at identification. "It seems to be a flower." Sigh.)
