Another really popular author whom I have never read anything by. I have a few of his & have been thinking about starting with this one. Fantasy is my least (tied with YA and self-help) favorite genre. That being said, I’m willing to give it a try.
@likewise@bookstodon I think romance is the genre I read the least amount of. I can get sucked into a Jane Austen retelling or a Casey McQuiston book though.
@likewise@bookstodon I'm not a fan of anything gory. I remember reading some pretty graphic crime novels when I lived alone and checked every window lock every night before bed and made the dogs sleep in the bedroom with me. These days I prefer sticking to my favorite genres.
@likewise@bookstodon I'm willing to try out the edges of any genre. I don't read romance, but my friend writes dark romance, which is a better fit for me. I'm not a huge mystery/thriller/police procedural fan, though I have enjoyed Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series.
BTW, if I were to introduce someone to Neil Gaiman, I'd start them on The Ocean at The End of the Lane, though American Gods is also a fave.
@kimlockhartga@likewise@bookstodon I love the Jackson Brodie series! I never read thrillers/mysteries until I started those. Now I like to dabble occasionally.
@Abibliophobia@likewise@bookstodon It is my conviction that there is probably a book for each of us in every single genre. It's just finding that match.
@likewise@bookstodon i always thought I didn't care for nonfiction until years ago, I caught Radio Reader (RIP) doing The Icemaster. I was completely riveted by the story of the doomed artic expedition. Had to buy the book to learn how it ended amd have been a fan of nonfiction ever since.
@likewise@bookstodon American Gods is really a fantastic book. I think you should give it a try. I really try to read anything I can but I don't read many romance novels. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any
